On my way to labor & delivery, my steering wheel locked up, a light and message came on that said, "power steering unavailable". I could not turn left or right and since I was already turning left when it locked up and went straight, I nearly hit all the cars parked on the side of the street. When I left the hospital, the light was off. A week later, the light came back on and stayed on. The steering wheel locked again as we were driving down a main road and we almost hit the car in the lane next to us because when it locked up, it snatches the wheel from wherever we have it to a locked straight position. This is unacceptable when you are pregnant with 3 children in the back. I should not have to worry about crashing into people without notice. We got it checked out and they said the electric steering rack needed to be replaced for a whopping $4500. On a 2019 vehicle, that is unacceptable. It is not safe to drive and now I have been without a vehicle for 3 months now because everyone keeps telling us that the part is on back order.

On November 7th, 2020 while driving on a avenue multiples engine and electrical warning reveal on the vehicle dashboard and all of the sudden the steering wheel got really hard, the check engine light came up, the brakes light, and a message stating "service shifter"; this all happened on a nick of time while I have my whole family in the car, very unsafe.

While visiting mississippi from indiana, in July, I kept getting a "power steering unavailable" "need service". I called and was going to take it to a shop there but the message went away the next day. We made it back home to indiana and I immediately made an appointment and dropped my vehicle off. They called the next day and said the message never came up for them, so they reset the system to prevent it from happening. They said the part is very expensive so if the issue isn't going on while they have the vehicle then they can't just replace it. Fast forward to today. While driving on the hwy with 2 of my children the message pops up again and power steering went out. Very scary. Thankfully I was able to get us home safe but yurning the wheel was almost impossible. I plan to call the dealership in the morning, but this is ridiculous and very dangerous.
Electric power steering failed at 3 years (2020) as of this date (6/2023) no repair parts (paid for years ago) can be had. Even junkyard parts are VIN-coded making them also useless.

Steering locks while driving, usually making a left lane change or turn. This occurs multiple times even on short trips (less than 10 miles). No warning lights.

I was driving my car one afternoon after work and all of a sudden all the lights on my dashboard lit up. I turned the car off rested for a minute then restarted it and proceeded to the oil change place to get my car an oil change thinking that would do the trick. Fast forward to Friday off this same week my car all of a sudden stopped working. The car lights blink for a second off the car comes on but otherwise it had not fully started in 2 days.

I was driving home from the store on Dec 8th 2019. When I went to make a left onto my street, my wheel locked up and I hit the curb at a low rate of speed. A warning came on that said "power steering unavailable" (see picture).
After dropping off my oldest daughter at preschool, I drove for roughly 2. 5 miles and parked the car, I suffered a total loss of power steering. The truck has a completely electric steering system. This occurred 10/31/2019. On this date I took the vehicle to the local dealership for diag. They called 11/1/2019 and stated that it needed a new steering rack. It is now 11/19/2019 and the part is still on back order. Chrysler keeps pushing the date back. I still do not have the vehicle back and not definitive date of return. If this would've happened with my daughters in the car while driving down the road it would've caused a serious crash.
Vehicle will die without warning you hole driving causing a serious risk for collision. Engine stops running and is very hard to steer or stop with no power.

My 2011 Dodge Durango engine shut off while driving. The first two times it happened exiting the same exit on a right sharp turn at the same part of the turn. The steering wheel locked and I had to force all my weight to turn it and pull off to the shoulder avoiding getting hit from behind and the side. Dodge dealer claimed nothing was wrong but wanted to keep car to investigate. I filed a complaint and opened a case number with Chrysler corporation. There was a recall with first owner for this happening and it was supposively fixed, I believe the problem was not entirely fixed. I avoided that exit thinking I temporarily took care of the problem. Third time my engine shut off while driving was on a left hand turn. No one was behind us so we avoided being rear ended. Car was placed in neutral and manually restarted. I called Chrysler again using same case number from before but I was told theres nothing that can be done because the warranty expired. 4th and 5th time my engine shut off while driving happened today , first was at a stop in traffic, no turn. I press gas and realized my engine was off while electrical stays on, so my air conditioner and radio weren't effected. And last I turned right into a drive way at work, engine turned off, steering wheel locked. I had to place in park and restart my car. There is a defect with this vehicle that Chrysler needs to fix. The first two times happened on a freeway exit. I may not be so lucky next time. This is our family car that my children ride in and Chrysler doesnt want to help with problem. I don't mind pitching in to help problem. I tried trading in to Dodge but didnt have down payment for new one.
Takata recall loss of power steering, at any speed.
Makong turns, the oil pressure plummets. Wheel speed sensors are causing the dash light to stay on. Been through 2 new pcm computers. Spark plugs foul out too easy. Battery temp sensor needs to be beefed up. Factory anti theft system stopped working. There is a short somewhere. This Durango has died while in motion too. Scary.

This problem has happened multiple times already not everyday but I would say at least 4-5 times a year. We are driving just normal down the highway and vehicle shuts off we have no steering lose all power have to come to a stop and restart vehicle. The most recent time this has happened luckily we were at a stop light and engine just shut off. We have taken it to a mechanic put his scan tool on it nothing came up. Battery is brand new has been tested alternator test good. Mechanic suggested computer problem. This is a safety hazard Dodge needs to look into.
Tl-the contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. Vehicle lost power nearly stranded. Concerned about being injured or killed due to vehicle losing electrical power no electrically power in vehicle ecm overheat while driving at 55 mph, without warning the vehicle lost electrical power. The contact stated that the power steering and brakes became inoperable. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after approximately 20 minutes. The vehicle was restarted and driven for approximately one mile before the vehicle lost electrical power once again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The diagnostic code reader stated no buss. The contact was informed that the engine control module (ecm) overheated due to its placement in proximity to the exhaust manifold. Additionally, the contact stated that the nut on the steering wheel knuckle was stripped which caused the steering to be difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and several unnamed dealers were contacted and notified of the failure. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that there would be no assistance offered. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. Ah.
I had put the 2017 Durango and the shop about 5 times for the same thing and they said the warranty was out and it couldn't be fixed and I didn't understand that for the same thing over again they keep messing up.
I was driving and the vehicle completely shut off without warning. There are no lights on, on the dash and it is not giving off any codes. The vehicle has shut off three times now. The first time in January, I had just got off of the highway and began to travel again. The truck turned off when I got up to around 25-30 miles per hour. The second time in March, I had stopped and started to travel again and was going about 25 miles per hour coming up an underpass. And the third time was yesterday. I was driving up a city street going about 40 miles per hour and the truck shut off. There was no one on the side of me. It felt like there was no power steering. I was able to wrestle the steering wheel to move to the side of the road. The truck coasted and stopped. I could not press the brake!!!! each time the vehicle shut off was when I was coming off of a stop and bringing the vehicle back up to speed, except yesterday it shut off once I was up to about 40 miles per hour. The vehicle shut off, I was unable to steer the truck as if it had no power steering and I could not press the brakes. I was able to wrestle the truck over and restart it. This is a serious issue. I reported it to Dodge today and they said there are no open recalls on this issue and to take it back to the dealer. However, I searched online and there are numerous similar complaints. Something needs to be done before someone dies.

2014 recall on this vehicle 14v-530 p54 was addressed according to Chrysler, but we keep on having the same problem with car shutting off while driving subsequently shutting off power steering assist making steering almost impossible, we have been in real dangerous situations twice now, Chrysler does not further want to address this issue.
My steering wheel locked on me while driving couldn't turn wheel left causing me to crash. Wheel got stuck while making a right turn.
Bought a used Durango 5 months ago at an official Dodge dealership in new hampshire, was told that it was in great condition. Came back to the same car dealership for a state inspection to find out that they failed us for a leaking steering gear/rack, charging us an overpriced cost of $1900. Come to find through another mechanic shop that this was not worth a fail and that it was not in need of an immediate fix. The Dodge dealership made us feel pressured to get this fixed right away. The 2014 Durango with only 63000 miles should not already have an issue like this.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the four wheel drive engaged independently. Also, when the vehicle was slowed down, the steering wheel seized. The failures were experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who believed that the four wheel drive engaged independently due to an electrical switch failure. The contact inspected the vehicle himself and believed that the four wheel drive engaged independently due to a failure in the wiring harness behind the dashboard. The contact also stated that the heater blower motor failed. The heater blower motor remained on the high setting. The contact replaced the heater panel himself, but it did not correct the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.

This car will completely lose power randomly. It will will shut off and turn bck on all by itself or if it shuts off I can barely touch the key fob and it will turn bck on without even turning the key!! sometimes I have to put it in neutral and turn it off and back on. This vehicle is very dangerous, unpredictable, unreliable. Have taken it to few mechanics who won't even work on it cuz they can not pin point the problem. I hve taken it to dealership and they could not find anything except for a code for sirius radio subscription , really ! they even kept it over nite and it wouldn't act up for them. Please figure this out. . . Clearly this vehicle has issues if more than one complaint is being reported. I feel like I hve a ghost car. Please figure this out. It is dangerous when my car does this on freeway. Does it going 10mph. . . . I can be pulling into my driveway at home & put it in park and bah just turns off on it's own for me. Anytime at different speeds whenever it wants, it shuts off and comes back on all on its own. Please figure this out. This car is not worth the amount of lives that can be lost. . .
I was leaving the gas station & the vehicle started jumping up & down like a bucking horse. There was temporary power loss as well as loss of steering. The vehicle displayed a bas/esp error & as well as a traction control error.

The power steering has gone out. It fully went out while driving into a parking lot from a highway exit. The truck started making sounds and will not turn now. The vehicle has only 60,000 miles. I have seen where other Dodge and ram vehicles are having similar issues where the power steering has completely gone out as mine has. With the electronic steering system every time I turn the wheel you hear a screeching and electronic or being sound (as if an electrical device has failed). I started to notice a dull or numb steering feeling to the vehicle which now has progressed into unable to use one bit. Fiat Chrysler has informed me that this is not covered under an extended warranty. We read that similar Dodge, Chrysler and ram vehicles in our year range have been affected by this as well. It's not realistic for someone whom is still paying for a vehicle to now be required to pay $3,000+ in repairs to fix this vehicle.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 Dodge Durango. While driving 75 mph, the steering wheel seized. The contact had to use extra strength to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,104.
Automatic transmission, gear shift is locking in park. After starting vehicle and trying to shift into drive, gear shift will not move. Has occurred 3 times in last two weeks. After "playing" with gear shift, trying to get it to move, I hear a click and then it is operative. On the 3 occasions, took from approximately 1 to 3 minutes before hearing click. Looked up on line to see if others were having issue and search led me to a recall for2002 Dodge Durango issued in December 2007. I never received a recall notice at that time. Nhtsa id # 07v555000 related to ignition/park shift interlock system becoming inoperative.

My 2004 Dodge Durango has the 5. 7 hemi. During heavy rains the engine would start to run rough and the electrical system shut down on me three different times in the middle of driving due to the rain. During this electrical shutdown steering was impossible and I would have to stop the vehicle in the middle of traffic. The vehicle did this to me one time in the middle of turning at an intersection. Fortunately no accident occured. I found that the issue was being caused by a faulty seal at the wiper cowl. This leak later blew my engine as the water leak found it's way into the cylinders and blew a piston rod. I was told that this defect has been reported to Chrysler by hundreds of people.
2 weeks ago my steering went out. My mechanic says the electric power steering is faulty and the part is on back order and no one can tell him when it might be available but the manufacturer did tell him that there are 160 customers waiting on this part. I am currently without a vehicle due to this, as are the other 159 customers waiting.
The crankshaft position sensor consistently going bad , due to faulty wiring harness or other issues. This will cause the vehicle to randomly shut off while either sitting or driving , and the its unknown as to why it is happening. Suggested repair is to just replace , but I replace 1 a year . I have replaced 6 in the last 5 years of owning this vehicle. Dealership is unable to locate the problem to why the cps keeps failing .
Our 2017 Durango with 3000 miles, had an engine light for overheating, quickly thereafter an engine light popped on, transmission light popped on, all gauges then ceased to operate and the car turned off as we were coasting down hill (luckily into service station). The transmission is a dial and then putting it in neutral becomes an issue for the tow or to push it. The engine starting knocking terrible.
4 times in the last two weeks while driving in heavy city traffic in the los angeles, CA area the engine turned off, without warning, warning lights, or warning sounds. All guages went to zero. There was no abnormal function of the vehicle before each incident. Power assist to steering and brakes were also lost. Each time it was in dry, sunny weather with the temperature between 60 and 80 degrees fahrenheit. Each time I was able to coast to a curb or physically push the vehicle out of traffic. Each time, except one, the engine would not start immediately afterward. The engine would turn over briskly but would not start. After 4 to 6 attempts the car would start normally and then run normally as if nothing had ever happened. Each time the gasoline tank was at least one quarter full. Two additional times in the last two months the engine shut off while driving and then almost immediately turned back on again. The transmission was completely rebuilt 5 months ago. This had the potential to cause a crash but did not in each of the instances.
2005 Dodge Durango goes dead while driving on any type of road doesn't matter if on interstate or dirt road it just dies and you don't even know it as all lights and radio work. Results in lose of ability to steer, breaks, and speed. Have to put the Durango in park once it rolls to a stop than cut it off and back on for it to work again. Sometimes it will go 25 miles with out problem at other times 5 feet. No check engine light is on and took to an automotive shop and no codes reading on the diagnostic computer. Stalls while moving on highways, dirt roads, & interstates!.
I have taken my truck in for all the recalls and now having trouble with power steering leakage and the system not staying cooled. The truck does not stay cool when driving the rpm goes above 3 at the speed of 60 miles per hour. The power steering leakage was told to me on the oil change done 4/2018.
