Was driving on hwy at 65 mph. Rear drivers side tire blew out. Sidewall split and cause the tread to detach. Caliber collision has pictures of the damage. I had to immediately pull to the side of a busy hwy at dusk. Just managed to get off the road. Called 911 but they didn’t stop to talk to us. Aaa towed me to caliber collision. Total damages were $10,587. 67. Car was totaled by usaa insurance. No warning ahead of time and the tire was 3 years old. Less than 25,000 miles put on it. Warning came on as I was pulling over after the flat but it was too late. Now I have an accident on my record when I only collided with the ground by the flat.

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Durango. While driving 65 mph and towing an RV, the front driver side tire came off of the rim. The vehicle and the RV were destroyed. The tires were inspected and a technician stated that they were 2-ply sidewall tires, which could only support 1,300 lbs, although the manufactured advertised that the vehicle could tow 10,000 lbs. Therefore, the tires that were placed on the vehicle were meant for light passenger vehicles. The failure and current mileages were 12,000. Updated 09/16/08. Updated 09/18/08.

9 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/14/2004

2004 Dodge Durango approx 6300 miles traveling on interstate at 65 mph right rear tire (goodyear sr/a p265/65r 17) exploded. Once stopped after approx 400' to 500' found tire tread completely separated from sidewall on one side of tire only. Completely inspected tire numerous times looking for cause of failure found no punctures cuts, etc. Brought tire to goodyear tire store for replacement. Upon returning for tire, was informed they had found puncture hole in tire. That had caused the tire to run low and the rim had cut the sidewall. I have the tire, the tire shows minimal abrasion on the failed side only. Was informed by goodyear they are not aware of any other sidewall failures with this tire. Investigated myself to find hundreds of the same complaints on the internet. Regardless of the cause of failure,( if my tire did have a puncture at time of failure) it would seem inherently unsafe for a tire to have this kind of damage in such a short stopping distance. This tire was also inspected by two independent garages and they do not agree that the puncture caused the damage. Luckily, my wife was not injured during this incident.

10 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

I bought a Dodge Durango less than a year ago (June 2003) I have since then replaced a total of 3 tires. Two of which where the same tire, rear passenger side. The first tire was replaced in oct"03", then the same tire replaced again in Nov "03". The third tire that I replaced was in Feb "04" the front driver side, but the rip found in the tire was not dicovered till I had my tire rotation. This would have been th rear tire as well. Now the one that I have already replaced twice has blownout yet again, but this time causing a accident may 1,2004. This will be the third time replacing the same tire along with my whole front end getting repaired. Total of now 4 tires have been put on this vehicle 3 of which where the same tire. All had rips in the tire wall. Could this be a defect in the product? is there anything that can be done? I can not afford all these tire replacements and insurace going up. I would like to be compensated for all my repairs, replacements, car rental, and etc.
