While traveling on the interstate 80 miles from home the coolant light went off and the temp gauge ran hot. Pulled over and cooled down; lights went off. Pulled up info for a nearby dealership and tried to drive to it . Only got about a mile and lights and gauge went off again. Tried to find a safe space to pull over on interstate; the shoulders are very narrow on i45. When pulled over engine light also came on and I turned engine off and it would not restart. Called tow truck, dealership replaced water pump but then found catastrophic engine damage. Fca knows there's a problem with water pump because they extended the warranty on it but they will not honor warranty on engine because they say I continued to drive with engine light on which I didn't. If water pump had been recalled I never would have had catastrophic engine failure.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. While driving, the temperature gauge and power steering indicators illuminated. The contact drove home, inspected the vehicle, and diagnosed that the water pump failed. The contact stated that the water pump failed due to defective materials. Car has a new engine and third water pump. It failed after 5000 miles and engulfed in flames causing the failure of the belt, tensioner, main drive pulley and ac compressor. Today Dodge just recalled these pumps for the very same reason bearing failure and super hot conditions causing fires and failure. I was just redriving along the truck has been running well and showed no signs of issues, no noise, smell, lights or struggle. Car was at normal opperating tempurture and daytime traffic. Stopped for gas stayed for a couple minutes then drive on, within two miles without any warning or noise the car started smoking pulled over and smelled a rubber notices no leaks in the water delivery system oil, trans, or power steering, the belt was red hot and smelled like a house fire car was taken 200 yards to pep boys and repaired at the cost of $1300. Should not happen with 5000 miles on the water pump and 20,0000 on a new engine.

The water pump blew and had to be replaced. The vehicle had less than 50,000 miles on it. This should not have happened. The vehicle was stationary and was very loud when we started it, took it straight to our mechanic.

I went outside to start my car and it would not start it would just keep turning over but never crank eventually stopping. I then would attempt to start it again and the car would try to turn over then crank shake very badly then shut off. On the third attempt it would finally start and stay running. While running or idling engine would run rough vibrating/shaking. This happened multiple times throughout 2' weeks. I could remote start it without any problem but when it came to push to start it always had a problem. I called to set up a service appointment and it was two weeks later when I finally had an appointment. When it was finally time for the appointment the car had not did this in 3-4 days. Hasn't done it since. Service department could not determine what it was. Nothing was done. 4 days after the appointment and having 2 recalls fixed ( one of which was brake booster that they had me holding on for 3 months only did they fix it when I took my car in for the water pump, and pulley. I was told the same only 2-3 parts were coming in each month. If there is a recall get it fixed in a timely fashion not on your own time see are peoples lives!)and some computer systems reprogrammed and water pump and idler pulley were replaced the cel came on it was the weekend and service department was closed. We took it to the local auto parts store to have it diagnosed the code had something to do with the fuel system. A day later before the service department had reopened the light went off and has not came back on since. I see others with similar problems and see that there is an open investigation on this. Please issue a recall so this can be fixed on all cars affected before someone is hurt. We spend all this money on cars that are supposed to be safe then please make them safe or fix the wrongs so nothing will happen.

One morning, at startup, the engine failed due to broken rod. All maintenance was always kept up and recorded. The vehicle was taken to local Dodge dealership for inspection and all maintenance records were handed to them. Upon inspection of the engine, the local service person told me I had a good case against Dodge since the engine was in great condition and the rod should not have broken. The regional Dodge inspector show up and inspected the engine and determined that the damage was due to lack of maintenance. I attempted to talk to the local service person that I had spoke with before but the dealership manager would not allow me to. The national Dodge representative I was assigned called me and told me that the engine failed due to a water pump failure. The story changed. In either case, I was left with a large bill because of faulty engine parts that Dodge (Chrysler) uses on their vehicles. This has happened to thousands of other Dodge Durango hemi owners.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. While the vehicle was parked the contact noticed there was antifreeze and water leaking underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated the water pump was leaking and had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Durango. The contact can switch gears without first engaging the brake. The consumer repaired the power train: automatic transmission lever and linkage column shift per NHTSA campaign id number 07v555000 (power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:column shift). Immediately after the repair, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that because the vehicle was previously repaired according to the recall, the contact would be responsible for any additional repairs. The vehicle also began overheating repeatedly. The dealer replaced the water pump, thermostat, coolant tube, fan clutch, and the control box; however, the failure still persists. The failure and current mileages were 102,000. Updated 08/08/08

: the contact stated that the engine malfunctioned in the vehicle as early as June first of 2005. The vehicle was taken to the dealers and left with them for one week to under-go diagnostic testing. The dealer determined through the testing that the problem was pertaining to the fuel pump and replaced the part. The vehicle began to experience more problems concerning stalling and all the warning lights illuminating. The vehicle was taken back to the dealers who replaced the water pump. One week later, the vehicle experienced similar problems including water dripping from the bottom of the motor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced gasket of the water pump. The vehicle stalled while driving on the highway during morning rush hour traveling at 30 mph. It was towed to the dealer who determined that the #3 cylinder had no compression, the coolant was coming out of the freeze plug, transmission fluid was dripping and the motor was shot. There were no further services done to the vehicle due to the extensive costs.

Defective joints & tie rods, faulty oil pump, transmission shifting problems, faulty water pump, bad rotors.
Vehicle has had several problems involving both the engine cooling and oil pressure. Upon braking, the vehicle's check engine light would come on. I have taken the vehicle to two different dealers for service. On one occasion it was found that the vehicle had very little oil. This was only one week after an oil change was performed. No oil leak was found. In subsequent weeks the gauges starting dropping to zero and the check engine light would come on. Took to another dealer and several parts were replaced including the water pump, thermostat, etc. I am still not convinced that the problem has been solved, especially after reading the complaints on this website. I would like this to be resolved prior to my engine blowing like many of the others that I've seen on this complaint database.
