Seven problems related to automatic transmission park/neutral start switch have been reported for the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer able to shift from park to drive without applying brakes.
Child shifted gear out of park without engine running or applying brakes, and vehicle ran over another child. The vehicle went into gear without the engine running because there was no safety feature to prevent it.
Vehicle not designed with interlock system which would have enabled child to start vehicle, put into gear and drive into satellite dish. Nlm.
Vehicle has an electronic automatic transmission. While driving at highway speed the vehicle threw itself into neutral while driving up to the speed of 50mph, causing the engine to rev when applying the gas. Transmission will not return to drive gear until vehicle comes to a complete stop. Dealer has been contacted.
While key is out of the ignition automatic transmission can move out of park position, which may cause a roll away. Dealer is aware of the problem. Please provide further information.
3 year old child was able to shift gears with engine turned off, resulting in a collision. (qcaw).
Transmission failure. Transmission electrically shorted out. Transmssion needs to be replaced.
