Three problems related to driveshaft have been reported for the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On approach to a stop sign, a loud clunk was heard. From stopped position vehicle no longer moved although engine was running. Mechanic stated front axle broke mid shaft. Mechanic also noted no damage or noticeable stress fractures and stated it was probably defective. I can't help but wonder what the result may have been traveling at 75mph!.
When pulling into driveway driveshaft broke. Had it repaired first time it happened. Then was backing out of parking space, driveshaft broke again. Each time it was at low speed. Mechanic could not find the cause of the breakage each time. Was towed to dealership each time.
Transmission overdrive shaft failed, car would not shift above third gear.
