Transmission Noise problems of the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan

Six problems related to transmission noise have been reported for the 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2000

Complete failure of transmission--banging noise while driving 25mph; $2000 to fix.

2 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2000

While driving in reverse transmission was making a lot of noise. Then took vehicle to dealer and transmission had to be rebuilt. Second time transmission could not be put in reverse and had to be replaced.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2000

Transmission would start to make a loud noise. Also, vehicle would start jerking while consumer was driving.

4 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2000

Consumer was driving about 45mph when she heard a big banging noise. Van did not move any more. She had the van towed, and was told transmission was gone.

5 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/13/1998

Poor quality of repair at outstate dealership. Southern dealership had not been this type of failure. When arriving back in homestaed (michigan) dealer van was purchased thru stated common occurance and has seen the failure before. Has to take van back for more repairs as flex-plate shipped with rebuilt transmission was not installed with replacement transmission. Vehicle developed imbalance when placed in park so severe steering wheel shook. Also developed cluncking noise when started or engine shut off. Still at colonial Dodge inc. (810-778-1800 being diagnosed.

6 Transmission Noise problem

While driving a loud noise came from the front of the vehicle. The driver pulled over and was unable to move the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who stated that the transmission had to be replaced.
