My 4-year son put the right key in the ignition of my Dodge Grand Caravan, started the van, then put it in gear and rolled it down the drive way until it crashed into a tree. Luckily he was ok, but don't you think its time that Dodge gets with the program and makes their vehicle so that you have to press on the brake before you can get it out of gear. Why is this not a national standard. Especially in family vehicles. Thank you gregg cahalan 616-850-4533. Please respond!!!.
Shift lever can be moved without applying the brakes into any gear. Consumer received a letter from Chrysler stating that there was no transmission interlock as stated in their owners manual. Chrysler included labels, indictating the defect, and will not modify vehicle.
Driver had turned vehicle on, but left it in park, shift lever was bumped slightly and jumped from park into reverse. Had contacted both manufacturers, was informed that problem was normal for that vehicle. Consumer was informed that the vehicle was designed without the interlock system.

Vehicle not equipped with shift interlock device whereby allowing our children the potential to shift vehicle out of park and creating a runaway condition. Our two year old son has watched us enought that he knows how to put the keys in the ignition and pull the gear selector arm down. Concerned about families and others safety.
In light snow plastic gear that controls windshield wiper arm has stripped off, causing it to become inoperative. 2. Also there is no safety lock for gear shift that prevents vehicle from rolling in case someone moves gear shift without applying brakes.
Will intermittently operate when in "off" position during driving and braking conditions. First noticed when vehicle was about 2-3 months old. Frequency is increasing.
