37 Body problem of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/18/2023

The power sliding rear door on the driver side is stuck in a locked position for 4-5 days now. This has happened previously to our power sliding rear door on the passenger side as well (before the current extended warranty) and we corrected that issue on our own by replacing the door actuator. Now that it has happened again and there is a warranty on it, I took it to the dealership and they are telling me it is not the actuator that is broken but the door rod and latch and quoted $1600 to fix the problem. I personally think this is a deceptive practice to get out of replacing the actuator under the warranty, but I am not a mechanic. It sure is suspicious though seeing as the rod and latch are linked to the actuator. This is very dangerous and could cost lives if the vehicle was full of passengers who needed to exit quickly and the door was jammed shut. The fact that it is so closely related to the actuator that already has an extended warranty is a cause for concern.

38 Body problem of the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/06/2023

The driver's inside door handle broke off during routine use. This could pose an egress hazard. No accident happened; the handle broke while the vehicle was parked. The handle was replaced by the dealer at our cost (warranty was expired). We still have the broken handle in our possession, and are providing pictures.

39 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/03/2023

Drivers side sliding door will not open. I am an automotive technician and I aware of the previous investigation into this issue that resulted in extended coverage on previous model 2015-2017 year Grand Caravans and town and countrys, but mnow im here with a 2018 Grand Caravan, same defect, same part, not covered. This is a common safety issue and this specail coverage needs to be extended to cover up to 2020 model years as they all have the same common defect with inoperable door latches.

40 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/14/2023

The sliding door power lock actuators fail. Making the door totally inoperable. This is the same issue that prompted mopar warranty bulletin d-21-15. The dealer jeff belzer's Dodge of lakeville mn. Service writer vinesh sirju says that this VIN of vehicles is not in the bulletin. The vehicle is in the coverage period. It should be in the bulletin, should there be a fire or other emergency required to exit the vehicle. The safety issue is the same as the bulletin d-21-15, one could be trapped in the vehicle. I think that the not being able to open a vehicle door due to poor components would be a safety issue. And not just a warranty issue.

41 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

My 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan gt left sliding door has a faulty door actuator. Had the van for 6 years, I read that the 2016 had the same problem. I hear the funny sound when locking the door. It has started may 2023.

42 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/30/2023

Driver's side back door is stuck in the closed position. Unable to open from outside, unable to open via key fob and unable to open from roof panel. The lock appears to be in between the lock and unlock position. From my understanding its the actuator that needs to be replaced. This door has not been used near as often as the passenger back door and it has no issues. I see online where lots of people with different year models having this same issue. Some have recvd a letter of recall however I have not.

43 Body problem of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/29/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while driving 58 mph, the spoiler deck lid on the liftgate fractured and detached from the vehicle. The contact also became aware that the brake light was missing from the liftgate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the spoiler deck lid had fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 109,086.

44 Body problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/18/2023

There are multiple whirring and clicking noises in the walls of the cargo area, mostly in passenger side. This happens when I lock/unlock the auto, and close the doors. I also hear what sounds like a moan coming from the dash, at least 2-3 times after I've closed and locked it, from the inside. I just purchased it used, with around 98k miles on it.

45 Body problem of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/12/2023

Both of my side sliding door won't open, unlock or lock. This puts family in me at risk in case of a accident or something we wouldn't be able to get. Out of nowhere they just stop working first one door gave out and now the other and I been searching not the only one with this issue.

46 Body problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/12/2023

Interior driver's side door latch cable frayed causing a malfunction to not allow the door to properly close. Had to replace the door latch cable.

47 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/12/2023

The left sliding door of the van has an issue which started immediately after my last service more than a year ago (around April 12, 2023) at glendale CA Dodge. Initially the door wouldnt unlock and lock. I reported it to them but got no response. I had to manually unlock and lock to make it work and fixed the issue. Since then, it makes a lod buzzing noise whenever it's locked and unlocked. So, the issue now it just the loud buzzing noise and it's been that way since. I searched online and found forums with other users with the same problem who reported their issues here at NHTSA too. So, I'm reporting mine. Thank you.

48 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/03/2023

This appears to be a known problem in these but my vehicle was built after the period Chrysler acknowledged a problem for. My van was built in June 2017 whereas the settlement states vehicles built until January of 2017. I paid $400 to have the dealer replace the lock actuator in the passenger sliding door in July 2021. The door would not lock or unlock without manually moving the switch. Since the "fix" that door seems to rattle and has gotten worse over time but it does lock now. In the recent weeks, the driver side now no longer works. I have just contacted Chrysler about this and am awaiting a response. But a) I should not have paid for the first repair and b) I shouldn't have to for the second considering this is a known issue. I use this vehicle for my family and having doors that don't lock or unlock is a huge concern for me.

49 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/26/2023

In June 2022 the driver's side sliding door became stuck in the locked position. It was difficult to get my young children in/out of the vehicle safely. I took the van to the dealership where I was charged over $900 to have the actuator replaced (see attached). From doing research online, I see that there is a known issue with this specific part for vehicles produced in 2015-2017 and an extended warranty was given to those vehicles because it was found to be unsafe. (no. D-21-15 see attached) unfortunately, my vehicle was produced in November 2017 and the extended warranty only covers vehicles up to January 2017. From my understanding, this part is not supposed to break or have to be replaced. The problem with this piece of the vehicle is clearly still an issue with vehicles produced after January 2017. As of Sunday, March 26, 2023 I am now having the same issue again with the other passenger side sliding door and will need the actuator replaced.

50 Body problem of the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/22/2023

Vehicle failed inspection, air bag light on. Driver seat wire harness open left thorax squib must replace entire harness, air bag circuits cannot be repaired due to high resistance splicing causes. Part on back order until August 2023!! car cannot be repaired and is out of service, unable to drive, illegal to drive, I have a $20,000 car loan, thrifty car sales of westfield, david dicienzo, violated massachusetts lemon law and refused the car while under the 60 day, 2500 mile used car warranty. Exhaust leak, muffler clamp rusted through, not holding pipes together. Driver front marker light bulb open circuit, bulb needs to be replaced. Air bag light noted to be out by firestone on February 25th, 2023.

51 Body problem of the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/25/2023

The air bag light remains on. I was told that it is responsible for the driver's side air bag. It was formally documented on February 25th, 2023 by firestone on king st. In northampton, MA 01035. It has been brought to lia Dodge king street in northampton, MA 01060. They told me the wiring part to repair this is on backorder and not available until August 2023 and not guaranteed to be available. In addition, I was told it would cost $900. 00 to install. I was told this by multiple people including Chrysler Dodge customer service. I was told a new part is in development and not ready until August 2023. If this is in fact, true, then this is a huge safety risk for all 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan driver's who have the air bag light on and may or may not have a working air bag. This is a huge safety issue. Additionally, I was told that the part is a "wiring harness" part#68531685aa and it would cost $900. 00 to install. On the mopar site, it is just the jumper wire sensor" part# 68531685aa and is $45. 00 plus $20. 00 shipping!!!! I was also told by Chrysler Dodge customer service that a Dodge dealer can install the part after I buy the part on mopar. Com and lia Dodge told me they could not. My car has been rejected following a failed inspection for the airbag light and also the rusted clamp that is holding the exhaust pipes together and co2 is backing up into the cabin. In addition to the sensor jumper wire part# 98531685aa, the vehicle should also be recalled for the part# 4578916ab the exhaust clamp that is rusted and falling off causing co2 to back up into the cabin according to both lia Dodge and auto express in hadley, MA 01035. The vehicle is off the road and not able to be repaired or inspected as it is illegal to drive until it is inspected. Please confirm the above information regarding the parts and start a recall so I can have these problems fixed or reimbursed by Dodge the manufacturer, as they should be by the manufacturer. The vehicle only has 70,000 miles.

52 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/19/2023

My center doors on my Mini van are inoperable. About 3 months ago, I tried to open the door to get my grandchild out of her carseat, and the door wouldn't open by the outside handle or the button on the control above. My dash would light up staying door must be unlocked to open. . . I pressed to unlock. . And nothing happened. I had to enter through the drivers side to get her out. Today I went to the grocery store and I went to open the door with the remote keyfob and nothing happened. I tried to open the door manually with the outside handle and nothing . . . So now both sides of my vehicle cannot open, very dangerous and now my van is useless carrying grandkids to and from . The Chrysler Mini van had this same problem, and my friend had her automatic door accentuators replaced for free. . . There was a recall for this problem on earlier year Mini vans. This car is only 6 years old and its a very dangerous situation now and a big inconvience as I cant enter the vehicle in tbe center to use the seats or stow away for transportiong large items. I called the dealership they want $1000-1500 . Could be more couldbe less they said, . This is unacceptable.

60 Body problem of the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/10/2022

Power sliding door lock actuators failed. First started experiencing problems with the doors at 75,000mi clicking noises and then at 90,000 miles the drivers side door became stuck shut. This poses a risk of my car seat aged and disabled children to be stuck locked in the vehicle in the event of a crash or fire. The second door began clicking near 93,000 miles and is now stuck locked as well. On 4/5/25 I received a warranty extension notice from fiat Chrysler automobiles stating a warranty extension on the part and repairs however my vehicle has passed the mileage upon receipt of their letter. When I contacted fca us llc customer care they refused to further extend the warranty for repair even after a supervisor agreed that this a safety concern and that he would not be comfortable with his family riding in a vehicle that risks them being trapped. Upon further research I have found that fca has known about issues with the lock actuators dating back as far as model years 2015-2017 in which the warranty was extended to 15yrs/150,000 miles. This puts over 500,000 families at risk of being trapped in their vehicles in the event the lock actuators fail. This should be a safety recall with no mileage restriction as it puts millions of people at risk of death or serious injury if they were to be trapped in their vehicles.

61 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/07/2022

Passenger side sliding door will not open. It is stuck in the lock position and will not unlock even after attempting both manual and electronic unlocking. Faulty lock actuator likely cause.

62 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/01/2022

Driver side sliding door is locked and will not open electronically or manually. This is a known problem covered by technical service bulletin (TSB 10177524) for Dodge caravan vehicles built on or after November 01, 2015 (mdh 1101xx) and on or before June 30, 2017 (mdh 0630xx). According to the VIN on my vehicle it was built 23 sept 2017 and does not fall within the range of the TSB. Both the dealer and Chrysler customer service refuses to repair the problem because my vehicle doesn't fall within the range of the TSB. Please add my vehicle to the other approx 500 complaints already on file with your office.

63 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/16/2022

As is common with Dodge caravans, this 2017 model has had a door lock actuator fail and the sliding door is inoperable and will not open - it is stuck closed. This prevents safe exit of the vehicle in the event of an accident or fire or other emergency endangering the lives of the passengers.

64 Body problem of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/08/2022

Similar to recalls with other Grand Caravans, both our sliding doors will not open. There is a buzzing sound when locks are engaged. First door went out a month ago second one today.

65 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/02/2022

The sliding door on the driver's side is locked closed and it cannot be unlocked or opened. The sliding door on the passenger's side can be opened and closed, but cannot be locked. As such, that door can be opened when the van is driven. The door locking failures occurred without any warning. According to the mechanic, both failures were due to worn door latches, which can be repaired/replaced for more $1,300 each in parts and labor. The van was purchased used more than 5 months ago with an odometer reading of 61,380 miles. The odometer read 71,173 miles when the van was dropped off today to have the door latches fixed. A request was made for all replaced components and parts to be retained for inspection, if warranted at a later date.

66 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/28/2022

Both of my sliding door actuators are seized and won't unlock/lock. Currently, my driver side sliding door is stuck in the lock position. This is a safety hazard because if my car were in an accident and my kids needed to exit the vehicle, this door not opening would be an issue. Also, my passenger side sliding door also doesn't lock. This is an issue because anyone could enter my vehicle without me knowing and either steal the vehicle or could try to harm my wife or kids by waiting inside without them knowing. I have tried to discuss this with the dealership and with Dodge, but they are unwilling to inspect the vehicle without a fee. I currently don't have enough money to get my vehicle inspected or to get the repair done. I have looked online and I do see that this issue has occurred with the same model for years 2013-2017. I have also read online of other vehicle owners having a similar problem.

67 Body problem of the 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/17/2022

Driver side rear passenger sliding door will not unlock or open. Manual lock/unlock lever on door is stuck in locked position. This creates a safety issue if there are rear passengers that need to exit in a crash or other emergency. This van seats 4 rear passengers and having both doors available can be critical. This happened without warning. Through research I found it points to a seized door lock/unlock actuator. There have been prior NHTSA actions on 2015-2017 Dodge and Chrysler minivans resulting in Chrysler extending the warranty period for this issue. My van uses the exact same actuators as the earlier vans. I am fearful that the other door actuator may fail withour without warning, rendering my vehicle useless for transporting passengers.

68 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/12/2022

Passenger door lock actuator stuck in the unlock position. When manually locked, actuator began buzzing when unlocking using electric methods. The van will not always unlock the doors via key fob since this has happened. I have small kids, and in the event of an emergency, it is important to be able to reliable unlock the rear doors if vehicle evacuation were necessary. I am in the processes of ordering a replacement actuator and will self install, but will keep the original on hand if the need arrises for it to be inspected. The vehicle has not been looked at by anybody other than myself as I do my own mechanic work.

69 Body problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/01/2022

Driver's side door is stuck and locked shut. This puts my precious cargo, my children, at risk of having to exit the vehicle on a potentially more dangerous side with traffic. In the event of an accident this door locked shut can't be used to escape the vehicle if need be. No warning lights. Online this appears to be a very common issue in Chrysler/Dodge vans.

70 Body problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/28/2022

Left side passenger door stuck and will not open. Minivan was manufactured 12-2017 according to door sticker information.
