Brake Abs Warning Light Problems of Dodge Grand Caravan

I was just getting onto the street and was just maybe going 10-15mph , when the vehicle traction control and stability control and abs lights came on and increased acceleration and pulled to one side when the dash lights mentioned came on. Also sounded like brakes were being applied at same time . I was barely able to make it to dealer without being in am accident . The clockspring had to be replaced.

Jan 2015 was driving 40 miles per hour slowing down for red light abs light came on and rear left side brakes locked up and released shortly after replaced brake pads. April 2015 van felt like it was dragging found brake pads worn again. August 2015 same problem replaced pads rotor caliper caliper bracket and guide pins van ran great. Two days later smoke began pouring out of the rear left side wheel well, stopped to check it was so hot could feel the heat 6 inches away. Caliper needs to be replaced again after 2 days (28miles). Wife loves the van but this problem is getting old fast. Being disabled cannot afford to keep paying to have the same problem fixed every 3 or 4 months.

While driving approx. 35m/hr in low traffic, van steering wheel stiffened, no warning lights on dash, then abs signal went on and brakes were out. I was able to coast to side street and the van had complete engine shut down. I had 2 children in the car. Thank goodness we were not on the highway and traffic was low. The van restarted and we drove home. Called my mechanic who had me get the battery checked out, which is only one year old. We bought a new battery a year ago because occasionally the van will not start right away, was stranded several hours at a baseball game, then it started. Had it put on computer at mechanic who cannot find any codes coming up for reason. Van has had at least 5 episodes of failing to start on first try. Second time this month, oct. 29,2014. Pulling to turning lane to go down our home street, when again, steering stiffened, I looked at dash board, abs light came on, brakes out and engine shut off. I knew what was happening so I stopped before turning and restarted van. This is very dangerous. I had my daughter in car. Again, thank good ness not on busy street with traffic or highway. I travel a lot with children and I am now afraid that this will happen on the highway and a serous injury or worse will happen. Dodge needs to address this immediately.

The contact applied the emergency brake and was able to restart the vehicle. The failure recurred intermittently. In addition, the contact stated that the brakes failed. The contact also stated that the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 14v373000 (electrical system). The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Around 37,000 miles, check engine light came on, shortly after purchased, light would go off and on periodically. After a several weeks light stayed on and started blinking, at this time van was vibrating and sounded like it would cut off. Dealership ended up replacing engine head under warranty. A few months later light came on again, van did not want to accelerate, dealership could not find anything wrong with van. At times van does not want to accelerate as it should. After a delay, it will accelerate, but not like it should. Around 60,000 miles, abs light and traction light have come on and cruise control will no longer work. Back hatch door of van locked while open and would not shut. The door had to be tied down from the inside in order to drive it to the dealership. Dealership says hinges have been bent. Hinges have no marks of any kind, and there has been no damage to the vehicle. There's a whole lot going wrong for a 2012 vehicle.

The contact stated that when driving at highway speeds 50 mph and depressing her brakes she noticed a pulsating feeling and the abs light had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they advised her that the rear brakes sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for the brake sensor. The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 35 mph, the contact heard a loud grinding noise and the brake pedal went down to the floorboard. The dealer stated that the front brake pads were worn. The dealer replaced the brake pads and turned the rotors. Approximately three months later, the abs warning light illuminated. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed front brake pads and performed the repair. While driving 25 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and it went down to the floorboard, making the vehicle difficult to stop. He had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the brake line failed. The dealer replaced the brake line. Approximately two months later, the vehicle experienced the same failure. The dealer has not diagnosed the cause of failure. The current mileage is 55,000 and failure mileage was 23,000.

Today, while driving our Dodge Grand Caravan, my wife applied the brakes. They made a grinding noise, and the abs light came on. The car has slightly over 16,000 miles and this is the third time that this has occurred. The first was when the vehicle was 9 months old with 5 600 miles on it. The second was when the vehicle was 23 months old with 14,612 miles on it. Today, in liess than 2 months and 2000 miles it has occurred again. We are worrired that there is a design defect with the braking system on this vehicle.

Consumer purchased vehicle new on 12/20/02. Abs warning light illuminated indicating the the anti-lock braking system is not functioning. Vehicle is currently being checked by dealer. Ts.

Abs light stays illuminated while the vehicle is in motion, rendering abs system inoperable. Dealer has repaired vehicle several times, and the problem still exists.
