1 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/15/2021

Oil filter adapter/oil cooler. While getting the transmission replaced that had a total failure at 110,000 miles while enroute to get the recommended 120,000 mile service, the dealer informed us that the oil cooler had a decent sized crack near the base and required replacing. They told us the could order the part but wouldn't know when it would be in because there were 14,772 units on back order. He searched the system and found 1 available 2 hours away. I left the dealer and drive straight there and it too was gone with no projected arrival of more. I was told if I kept the oil topped up and kept an eye on it, it would be ok and not cause engine damage. I have not spent enough on oil to keep it topped up that I could have paid for the part of it we're available. Online aftermarket sources are sold out with no idea when they'll get more. As of 09:30, 15 March 2021, the parts department of landers cdjr in bossier city, louisiana confirmed that there are now over 15,000 units on back order and when requesting to order, they don't even have an estimated wait time. Went direct with Dodge and was told that they would escalate the review to try and get the part to the dealer. Not sure how that will happen when they don't have a supply to meet the demand. Each dealer I've called in a 6 hour radius from my location has said it should be a recall with it being such a faulty design of plastic resting directly on top of the motor but that fiat won't do that. My biggest concern is the oil leaking down, sprays on to the exhaust creating the potential for a fire hazard.

2 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/18/2021

Car purchased brand new March 2015. February 2021 at approximately 93,000 miles extensive oil leaking damage. Car is leaking oil from the oil filter housing unit including the gaskets around. At this point, the correct part is on back order from Chrysler, per the dealer where purchased the car, I am number 28,000 plus in the line to receive this part. There is no eta for when the part will be available. The van leaks when parked and in drive. I got an oil change end of December 2020 and was down to two quarts of oil in a month time and 1000 miles since oil change. The car is now un driveable and Chrysler is doing nothing to assist with getting a loaner vehicle.

4 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/15/2021

I recently purchased a used 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan in Nov 2020. I went in for an oil change and was informed of a small oil leak. The dealership said that the oil filter adapter housing needed to be replaced. They are unable to get the part at this time said they are not sure when it will come in. Meanwhile I am driving in a van that is still leaking and told just to check it weekly and to it off in the meantime. I'm not sure if you can help out if I should direct this to you or someone else. I saw this info on NHTSA. Gov. Any guidance how to report this issue would help. I have seen videos that say this usually occurs if someone torques the filter to tight. This is the first oil change since I purchased this vehicle and the last page that did the oil change was the dealership in oct 2020. I'm so frustrated right now because the warranty the dealership sold me doesn't cover this issue. I don't know when it will even be resolved. I don't want to risk the leak getting worse and I don't catch it or my van catching on fire. Please help if you can.

Passenger side air bag exploded. Luckily no injury. Vehicle was not moving. I didn't even know it could do that! I'd like this fixed. Also, two leaks in engine. Oil leak/transmission leak. Is this normal? leaks are ongoing. Another thing: noticing headlights getting slightly dimmer, then brighter, at night as if some sort of electrical problem? this happens during driving and not driving.

8 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/26/2019

Car suddenly lost power while driving on the freeway at 60mph; engine remained on. I pulled over, turned off the car, and it started back up again and drove fine for about 2 miles. service engine soon light came on. When it lost power again, I slowed and then tried to reaccelerate, and it drove fine for about 5 miles, enough to get me off the freeway and to a safe location. I checked the oil and transmission levels, which were ok, and there was nothing leaking under the car. Went to an appointment, and came back to the car, which started up and drove ok for about a half mile, then it shut down completely at a traffic light. This time it wouldn't start back up again, so I pushed it onto a side street, where it started up fine and drove to the nearest gas/repair station. Now, the van won't start again. Van was proceeding straight in all situations.

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

At 4 years old and about 60000 miles, my caravan started to severely leak oil. It would go through a quart a week. From my internet research it seems like the oil filter housing is the main culprit. I hope they recall the defective parts.

15 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/22/2017

A fluid leak was found on the garage floor under our van. Upon further inspection it turned out to be engine oil. We took the van to the dealer to have it looked at as it is still under manufacture's warranty. The dealer mentioned that the oil "cooler" or adapter was probably cracked from the last oil change. This part is what holds the oil filter. It is a plastic part that is subject to torque when the cap is removed and replaced after changing the oil filter. This part is engineered to fail after so many oil changes. Once it fails, oil is forced under pressure on top of the engine, causing a potential fire risk. The dealer will not cover this under manufacture's warranty since they did not perform the oil change. This is a serious issue and a recall of this part with replacement using a metal replacement should be seriously considered before someone gets hurt, not after.

16 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Oil filter housing has a major oil leak. Part # 68105583ae is on national back order because so many of these have failed. I have called dealerships across the country and no one will sell one due to the amount of failures and the only way to get the part replaced is to have the dealership's service department replace one.

18 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/24/2007

We have had our van in for service and oil changes in the past. The engine had less than 40,000 miles and was using almost 4 quarts of oil in less than three months. The last time it was serviced, the dealer could not find any reason why it was using oil. They said to keep an eye on it by checking it frequently, and they could try to monitor it to see why we were loosing oil. We could always find small spots of oil in our driveway and on parking areas/garage floor. The dealer did check the vehicle and said they could not find any oil leaks. They did however find a leak in the transmission line, which did not explain why we were having to replace oil on a regular basis. We had just placed 4 quarts of oil in the van two days prior to the service appointment. The van was totaled in an automobile accident the next month, so we were not able to follow up on the oil leak problem but felt that we should report this problem since other Dodge caravan owners have had the same problem where they have low mileage on their vehicle, and oil loss for no known reason.

19 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/05/2007

I had continually added oil every month starting after about 10,000 miles. I changed oil every 3-5,000 miles. Driving back from up north and I heard a ticking noise. I had checked the oil level before our trip on 8-3-07 and added 2 quarts of oil to bring it up to full. As we had the windows closed as the temp had fallen to chilly, I could no longer hear the noise until we were within mile of our home. It became louder and as we pulled into the driveway, it was very loud. I was going to bring it to a dealership to get it checked out the next day, but the van would not start. I had it towed to the closest dealer and they looked at it the next day and told me that the engine had blown. They told me to contact Chrysler as they would too. I did and they told me it was not going to be covered due to lack of maintenance. They wanted oil change records and I did some myself but had 3 from a local repair shop. They wanted 2 more and I could not supply these as I had done them myself. I did have a receipt for the oil I added in last July, but that was it. I have about 37,000-38,000 miles on the van. The dealership wants me to pay for the tear down of the engine even though I was told the first week that Chrysler had ok'd the tear down to find the problem. Now the dealership called me and wants me to pay for a tear down so they can look into why it broke. I told them , you already told me that you had the ok to do this and it should be already done. I went to the dealership and the van was on the hoist and was particularly disassembled. The dealership wants me to pay for the tear down and a new engine that will cost almost $5,000. I have it documented on at least one oil change that it had used 2 quarts of oil between changes. I had no leaks below my van so I was unaware that this engine was eating oil. Other than having to add some every month. More if you need it.
