Chrysler and the dealership are unable to tell me what started the engine fire only that they have not seen this type of fire before. They are quickly to state that they do not feel that it is due to a manufacturing or assembly error. How can that statement be made when they are unable to state what caused the fire? they will not comment on a defective part. I have all defective (burnt) parts in my possession. How do I know that my vehicle is safe to drive when they can't tell me if they fixed the part that started the fire because they don't know. In a letter dated 5/2/200 from thier company they appologized over the fire but have washed their hands of the incident without being held accountable as to how this happened.

Approximatel;y an hour after mva (damage to front drivers side), I left to accident scene. Transmission would not shift, so pulled over at first avaliable area. The engine caught on fire. Insurance estimates in excess of $6000 of structural damage form accident in addition to fire. Vehicle is total loss. I don't believe the crumble zones properly protected to frame. I don't think the vehicle should have caught on fire. Investigation of NHTSA web site produced NHTSA action number ea99013 which prompted contact.

Consumer took children to school and could smell gas, consumer had received a recall regarding the fuel pump, however after speaking with the dealer he did not believe this problem had to do with the recall, after package, vehicle went into house, neighbor called her and stated her vehicle was on fire and was totaled, claim 20-5211-880.

Vehicle has experienced 2 fires, the first fire happened last year and was covered under the vehicle warranty, claim 16-n100-392.

This is a dameged truck since the beginning, is a failure truck, I dont want it.

Have had to add 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles since 1996; dealer would not do anything about it until 8/99; they said it was normal oil usage; have used mobil 1 5w30 oil since new per owner's manual and had oil changed at mt. Ephraim Dodge regularly since new; they monitored oil usage and I brought in car to get oil added and recorded from 8/99 to present; I think the engine piston rings are defective.

All of these break downs have come with in the 9 month period there are other break downs that have not been said like the main comp (emc comp),3 sensors and about 5 recalls in this time period we contacted dealership to see if there was any major problems with this van prior to purchasing this van and to see if there was anything they could do and nothing was done. We feel this van was a lemon and will cont to have problems we ask that Dodge stand by there name and do something about this.

The vehicle will shut off while driving which causes it to lose all power steering and brakes. Most of the time the engine has to be restarted but there have been occasions where the power steering and brakes initially lost power, which made it very difficult to control the vehicle. The power steering and brakes will then just kick back on however, again causing loss of control of the vehicle since we are trying to oversteer it due to the original loss of power. This is an extreme safety hazard since the failures occur without warning and while the vehicle is moving. The vehicle has been to two different Dodge dealers on four separate occasions for repair but the problem has not been fixed because the dealers have not been able to have the power loss happen while they were driving it. These failures have occurred approximately 8 times since we bought the vehicle new.

Engine surged when brakes were applied and resulted in a minor crash.

While driving with the radio playing and the air conditioner on, and without any warning, the engine just dies out. But everything else is still working. Took vehicle into dealer twice, but they can't duplicate the problem.

We bought this car brand new. It vibrated when we test drove it. The dealer said it just needed the tires balanced. We have had this car in the shop many times over the course of the year. It vibrates terribly at 45 mph. The district manager for orlando zone Chrysler Plymouth drove the car and verified the vibration. She has documented this problem and opened a file number. However, we are still in limbo as to what course of action to take or what Chrysler will do to fix this problem. We rented a 1998 Grand Caravan in another state. It vibrated terribly at 45 mph. Then one day in a parking lot, a woman stopped me(she had just bought a car like ours) and she asked me if I had vibration and chugging problems. I think there is something wrong with the engine/transmission of these cars. I would like to know if you have any information about this or know what can be done about it. While it may not be life threatening, it is a real nuisance. Everything in my new car rattles. . . Because it shakes so badly. The service manager at frank griffin dealership says another customer is having the same problem with his 1998 caravan. Any information you have regarding this will be most aprpeciated. Thank you.

Vehicle stops without wandering for no apparent reason while driving. Many occurrences but dealer cannot locate problem and denies any reports of similar occurences with other vehicles. This is a serious defect in the vehicle waiting for an incident to happen. Please investigate. There are several notices of this problem type under edmunds. Com. Thank you.

Vehicle caught on fire.

While driving vehicle caught on fire in engine compartment area, the cabin was filled with black smoke.

While driving, speed dropped from 60 mph to 35 mph, followed by 'service engine soon' light coming on/speedometer failure and gear indicator lights coming on.

While driving about 60mph engine cut off without warning. Mechanic said transmission needed to be replaced.

Engine would shut off during driving at normal speeds. Also steering wheel locks up, making it difficult to steer away from traffic.

The engine caught fire after being parked for 2 minutes. Vehicle was totaled.

Engine died 3 times. Called customer service rep. Audrey who was very rude and unhelpful.

Upon slowing down to make a turn or when entering an intersection, vehicle will completely shutdown. Consumer noticed that when this occurs oil light illuminates.

Dealer said using 1 qt oil/1,000 miles is normal but it is not.

Rear cylinder head failed causing the vehicle to use excessive amounts of engine oil. Nlm.
