Plastic fuel tank ruptured for no apparent reason-gasoline leaked into garage.
A leak was discovered in the fuel tank assembly at the point where the fuel filling tube connects to the fuel tank. Upon noticing the leak, I contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle about 3 months prior. They replaced the entire fuel tank assmbly as well as a seal. I feel that this failure is a manufacturer defect because the vehicle is in otherwise excellent condition and there was no physical damage of any kind to the fuel tank assembly that could have caused such a failure. This is a serious safety/fire hazard and we are fortunate that the leak was discovered before any fire or injuries occurred. I do not feel that I should have been responsible for payment to repair this type of defect. I have contacted daimler chrylser corporation and they currently have no recall information on my vehicle. However, I did find a recall on the 1996 Dodge caravan with a similar problem. The campaign number was 98v18500. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide in this investigation.

A frontal offset crash test was performed, when the vehicle was rotated 90 degrees onto its side during the routine post-crash investigation of the underbody a stoddard fluid leak was observed near the fuel tank, the leak continued for 36 min until the vehicle was returned to its normal position, inspection of the tank showed that the leak originated from the top right side of the fuel tank where the sender unit makes a seal with the tank housing. While traveling on highway there was a fuel smell coming from inside of the vents, and fuel was leaking from underneath the vehicle. Built in check on top of fuel tank was cracked and leaking. . .
A crack was found in the top of the gas tank by the dealer when I brought the vehicle in for correction of a fuel system related recall. Either they cracked the tank during the repair or it was already cracked. It makes no sense that a gas tank should crack. I have had no accident with this vehicle and it is driven carefully. I asked the dealer if this was a recall item and they said no. However, after having the tank replaced I found out that a new tank has been designed for replacement. Why would Dodge need to redesign the tank if it was designed properly in the first place? if other tanks have this problem of cracking, there is certainly a major safety problem for owners of these vehicles. Please investigate the ocurrence of this problem with these vans. Thanks.

Strong gas smell in garage. Tank 3/4 full. Dealer said tank leaking from vent tube access cover and could not be repaired. No indication of damage to tank; lea caused by natural flexing. Re-design indicates Chrysler has acknowledged problem but has not initiated recall action.

Ea99013, the valve located on top of the gas tank leaks, which may cause a fire if there is a source of ignition. Tank replaced by dealer, at half cost to the owner.
This defect in my opinion represents a serious possibility of causing a fire. Gasoline is leaking on to the road surface below the car especially when the tank is over half full. Chrysler yesterday declined to replace the gasoline tank due they said to the vehicle's high mileage. A fire could easily start by a spark or a thrown cigarette. The local dealer said the the cost to replace would be around $450. 00. I don't think I should pay for this as I have done nothing to cause it. The failed part is located on top of the fuel tank such that it is protected from road rocks, debris, or just about any conceivable hazard that would be encountered in normal or even harsh driving conditions. This car is never taken off the hard road. Thank you.
When filled fuel tank around the top seam began to leak. Dealer contacted and could not remedy problem. Repairwork done at owner's expense.
Dealer claims gasket was not installed in fuel line. Gasket is not available separately, so entire tank assembly must be replaced. Dealer opted to squirt sealer into line for repair. Driver's side sliding door rattles badly. Dealer adjusted striker, door got worse. Technician claims rattle is normal.
