We bought this car as the third owner the air bag light was on the cruise control didn't work and the horn wouldn't sound. After searching the internet, and finding out that they had many many of the internal pasts changed and the multitudes of people reimbursed, we took our car to the dealer and told because we were the third owner, and that the mileage was high, they would not accept responsibility. The car was never been in a accident, nor has it been abused. I think that because my horn can't work it may be a concern. I also think wile driving my air bag may deploy causing an insident. Both Dodge Intrepid , and other Dodges have the same problems. The problem can be resolved by paying 4-to5 hundred dollars to the consumer. I feel as though the cost and replacement of the part should go back to the manufacturer as it is an internal part in the steering that breaks with out warning and without any cause from outside sources I. E. Accedentsor other. Because not enough people contacted you, the manufacturer decided it wasn't good enough to be considered or issue a recall.

As I was driving along and approached my exit, the steering wheel locked up and would not allow me to control the car. I was able to stop the car safely hitting some brush on the side of the road. No damage or injuries were incurred, but this was very frightening! now, the steering is still getting stuck on turns and I have no horn! the airbag light is now showing and I don't know whats going on with this car! something needs to be done. No warnings, or recalls have been made, and there a many concerns of others going through the same issue with this car. Please advise on what is going to be done about this problem before someone gets killed!.

The air bag light came on. At that time I did not know anything else was wrong. Later on Dec 27, 2009, while traveling to florida and finally using the cruise control, I realized that it was not working and the radio controls were not working, plus the horn does not work and of course the air bag light is as of this date 1/3/10 still is lit. Googling the problem, it may be the clock spring. This is a 2001 Dodge Intrepid, 3. 2 l. I understand there may be a safety problem. I want to know if this is under any kind of recall??? at this point I am waiting to see if there is a recall before I get it repaired.
Seems that there is a thing called a clock spring---in the steering mech-(sorta a replacement for the old horn contacts)---seems to be a common problem---when it fails it turns on the drivers side airbag light--you loose your horn and also the cruise control--no recall on this model yet--but some other same mfg. Products are under recall.
When turning into a driveway there was a snapping sound in the steering column and I could feel it in the steering wheel. The air bag light went on and later we found out there was no cruise control. I am familiar with people who work in auto body so I called him as we were out of state. He told me to pull the fuse on the airbags because they could accidentally go off. I called a Dodge dealer in the area and he said it needed to be fixed immediately so the airbag did not go off accidentally. We took the car to a dealer whom told us it probably happened because the clock spring was wound too tight causing it to break and even though it is caused when manufactured it would not be covered. Thankfully I knew to call someone immediately or it may have resulted in a major accident.

The contact's vehicle was involved in an accident. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed. The contact's vehicle was hit by another car, dragging down the road, and then going into a ditch. This was a frontal impact. The vehicle was totaled. No repairs could be made at this time. No warning indicator lights were on prior to this failure. The cause of the air bag failure was unknown.

My airbag light is remaining on, the horn is not working, and cruise control doesn't work and from it is my belief, that my vehicle has same clockspring problem that Chrysler had with some of its 1996-98 minivans. I believe the horn and air bag are safety items and should be repaired. I wrote to daimler/Chrysler and got this response: thank you for your recent email to daimlerchrysler motors regarding your 2003 Dodge Intrepid. A review of our records indicates that your vehicle does not currently require service for any recall campaigns issued by daimlerchrysler. If your vehicle is involved in a future recall campaign, you will be notified promptly by mail. You can also access the self-service recall site on the internet to check on your vehicle's involvement in any/all recalls that are published. . Read more...
I was involved in a car accident (I was the driver)in which my car was impacted by another vehicle (1997 full-size Dodge van). The point of impact was the driver's side, the left front end of my vehicle (Dodge Intrepid, 1996). The impact was so strong that it caused the battery to break in half, among other damages. I was using the seat belt, and saw the airbag light come-on; but the air bag did not activate. I have not gone to the dealer with this information. Will do so, once the insurance company has completed its report. My car has been declared a total loss because the repair costs exceed the market value of the vehicle. I did not suffer major injuries as a result of this accident, even though the force of the impact did cause the seat belt to tighten its greeep and this did caused some brusing and severe chest and side pain. I am sending this complaint so that the problem can be noted and if it hasn't reported previously and corrected, that it be done, as to avoid others having the same problem, and face worse luck than I.

Airbag light comes on and stays on, cruise control inoperable. Dealer says clock spring needs to be replaced, costing over $300. 00.
There is a little shelf on the right side of instrument panel, and had a few coins on that shelf. While making a right turn, the coins fell behind the steering column and the airbag light came on, indicating a problem with the airbag system. An hour later, the airbag light came off. Dealer said if the coins did fall behind the column, and itwas possible the airbag may have deployed if the coins hit a sensor. Please provide further information.

Air bag light is working intermittently.
Airbag light comes on sometimes. When it comes on windows will not roll down and a/c does not work. Consumer feels someone could easily sufficate. Consumer has to stop at every light to open door to get air. Also, engine check light was coming on.
On or about the first week of October my engine light came on. The engine showed no signs of failure but the transmission seemed a little sluggish. During the first or second week of November I finally got a chance to take the car to the dealership. They did a diagnostic on the car and found nothing. The light came back on the same day I picked it up and along with that my air bag light came on and the rpm and speedometer gauges stopped working. The gauges do not work when air bag light is lite. The dealership is aware of the problem and I will be taking the car back to dealership 11/27/00. I will keep you informed of the progress.
Was driving at approximately 20-25 mph when airbags deployed suddenly , air bag light never came on. Dealer claims consuemr had been in an accident, but there was no accident. This defect could have resulted in injuries. *.
The airbag light continues to illuminate while the vehicle is in motion. Dealer has been notified.
Consumer states the air bag light stays on.
