Randomly my car will start just fine one day then the next it will fail to start sometimes on the same day. I have actually been stuck somewhere because my car has failed to start. It just makes a clicking noise when turning the key to start the car. I usually have to wait a while for it to finally start. This happens randomly when parked for short periods or long periods. I notice when it's hot and humid is when I usually have the problem more. I recently changed my starter and it's still giving me the issue. Also have changed and had the battery replaced and still the same issue and again just happens randomly.
Something wrong with it stating as sometimes it won't start. I replaced starter and still same issue, I have to pur it in neutral and try to start it and eventually it does but it shouldn't be this way also it stop working as I was driving getting ready to make a turn and I had to restart it but once again it wouldn't start the first few times which I had to put in neutral and I was in the city traffic very dangerous.
The vehicle will stall on cranking which a red light will light up you will have to get under vehicle and tap starter constantly to crank. Starter has been replaced 2x problem still happens its spark fire under car. The vehicle will be cut off stationed after a drive then it was crank period until 20 min . When parked to get in and drive it want start. Has been test on machine battery good starter good and transmission it detected and electrical. Also when unlocking doors only 3 doors will unlock one you hot unlock wipers will come on.
My car is constantly unable to start im being told due to electrical issues. Ive replaced the starter, battery, & alternator. There are all kinds of forums telling you ways around getting the car to start but no real fixes. Some people spending hundreds and thousands trying to fix this issue by replacing fuse boxes, adding cables, replacing the entire computer system and more to no avail. While others just park the car until its paid off or sell it. Its not fair and its inconvenient. Dodge Journeys 2009+ are all experiencing these issues.
I bought this Dodge Journey sxt last yr 2/16/2018, I asked the salesman if there's any recalls or anything wrong with this car. . He said only need to replace the rear tires. . I contacted a lemon law lawyer the next day after getting the tires replaced bc he lied to me, the tie rod & ball joint had to be replaced, on top of that I found out there are (4) recalls on my car that were never taken care of, so Dodge chyrsler dealership replaced the front/back airbags in (Mar/April)of year 2018. . I received the recalls to my phone, to top that off I purchased this vehicle in cash over ($4,263. 00), the lemon law lawyer told me to go to a website to get the history on my car I bought, it was involved in a car accident on passenger side on (10/18/2017). . I was lied to totally, I almost got rear ended bc the transmission stopped on me, my sister raised $$ to get transmission replaced, now had to put new brakes/new battery/new starter/another new tire/ then the hub assembly broke along with the sway bar arm, the electrical system is faulty & car starts but then if I go anywhere & then try to start to go home, it won't start & the fob key needs to be replaced as well. . This car is a safety hazard, too many problems that shouldn't be happening. . It has stopped on me too many times to count, I'm at thee point I afraid to drive it. . This vehicle has (2 recalls) that have not been taken care of yet, I had to call canada to tell them I bought the vehicle bc they didn't have me as the new owner, I didn't get any recall notices in the mail bc I just bought this car last yr & it was at a dealership, they never took care of the recalls,, I was sent a notice to my credit karma acct telling me there's 4 recalls but the airbags are dismissed bc they were taken care of,. I have 2 recalls that have not been repaired. My ignition switch hasn't worked from the day I bought this car,it's loose.
This is just too much. I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Sometimes it crank and then it won't. I can get in it and drive to work, but by the time I get off it will not do anything. The lights and radio work but the car will not turn over. It's like it will work for awhile but after turning it off it could take hours to start up again if it starts up. And yes I have also tried the putting the car in nuetral, but when it don't turn over you can not change the gears. I don't hear any cranking noise, the truck just lights up. I have had a new starter, battery, and alternator put on. I have had this truck pull home on a tow truck from work and soon as they unhook it it will starts up. . . I have two young kids and I have had the experience of going to a gas station in the evening after getting off work and after turning off the car it will not crank. The horn just starts honking on its own sometimes, and the theft system alarm light almost never stops blinking. I have spent more than I almost paid for the vehicle, and still have to uber places. This is a major issue that needs to be resolved. Took it to the Dodge dealership and they want you to leave your vehicle there for about 4 days and want to call you with a ridiculous money quote. Come on Dodge how much more do your customers have to suffer from a problem you don't want to fix. A very concerned consumer and parent.
I've had the car for 2 years. Since I've had it, it would randomly not start, the heat would only work in the back vents. Got everything fixed associated with starter, battery, everything. For the last 6 months, my engine like has been on, and an esp light. I got the engine checked, brakes fixed, routers, brake pedal switch replaced and it's still doing the exact thing. Gear won't shift sometimes but it isn't the transmission. Now they are saying possible electrical issue but this has been going on for months! after I've put more than 1000 into everything that has not fixed the issue.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously included in and repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags). The contact stated that shortly after the vehicle was repaired, it became difficult to start the vehicle. The contact stated that to start the vehicle, the ignition was placed in the on position and the starter was tapped to start the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to baxter Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram bellevue (7713 s 19 th st, bellevue, ne 68147, (402) 800-1256) to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to provide a cause for the failure. The contact stated that three months after the recall repair, while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the same dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the totally integrated power module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000. The VIN was not included.
Bought a used 2009 Dodge Journey in February, have replaced the battery and starter in the last few months. Sometimes we can start the car normally, sometimes you have to jump the car off. Yesterday, the car would not shift or start, tried the neutral safety switch which enabled me to push the Journey but still would not crank. Research online shows that many other consumers have or are experiencing the same problem. I feel Dodge needs to take responsibility and figure out why these vehicles are malfunctioning. It's costing us money and time we do not have trying to chase down an electrical issue. I even had the pcm checked out and it too was in a good bill of health.
For the millenth time since purchasing this car in 2014 it failed to start again!!! I have had ever mechanic under the sun check electrical connections, batteries, starters, alternators, fuses etc. They find nothing wrong but the car continues to simpley not start. I've read a lot of people have the same problem with this car. Did anyone ever figure out why and what Dodge is doing about it? sometimes it happens when my car is parked angled. Sometimes on flat pavement. I got stuck with my newborn daughter shortly after I purchased the car and went back to depaula dealer I purchased it from in albany NY and they apologized and said they checked everything and nothing is wrong with the car. I'm scared to be stuck with my kids somewhere and honestly tired of sending it to the mechanic only to hear they can't find anything wrong. Any ideas or directions to give the mechanic would be great. Does Dodge actually have the answer and just don't want to issue a recall. I don't care if I have to pay to get it fixed. I just want to know what needs to be fixed!!! thank you.
Faulty tipm . Car starts intermittently. Dealerships and all mechanics are unable to resolve. There are Dodge forums everywhere complaining about this problem why wont Dodge recall it already? my antitheft light comes on and disables the car. When trying to start the car, some days it starts and some days it doesn't. No error codes coming up. The dealership has replaced battery, alternator, neutral safety switch, and starter.
Car experiences intermittent ignition failure. While stationary with key in ignition, it will click but not start. We have replaced the battery, alternator, and starter but it continues to have issues starting over the past 3 months. Sometimes it will start fine, but other times it takes several tries over a period of 30 minutes. The mechanics cannot find the solution to this problem even when able to duplicate the issue.
Vehicle will not start. Replaced battery, replaced starter, replaced relays and fuses, cleaned connections. 100's of reports with this problem all over the internet. Putting the car in neutral does not help.
Not right,, transmission stopped on me driving, k & m Dodge mechanic says it's not my fault that the transmission just stopped on me while driving, he said the 2 gear isn't there, this is 2 times now I almost got killed, to top that off I purchased this mused vehicle on 2/16/2018 & paid cash of $4,263. 00 I asked if this car had any problems bc I do not want to put any money into it. . He told me & my parents only needed rear tires, I asked if it's neen in a car accident, he said no. . He said I will be the 2nd owner,, something isn't right, so I took it in on 2/17/2018 to get 2 new rear tires & omg, are you kidding me,, this car didn't have any airbags, electrical system was messed up, had to have a oil change on 2/22/2018, then it went in repair shop on 2/26/2018 for recall on airbags, then got it back on 3/26/2018, just for it to go back in on 4/1/2018 for a ball joint/tie rods/rotors/brakes front & back/ wheel alignment/new battery you got to be kidding me,, I am pissed as heck, found out I'm the 4th/5th owner,, it was in s car accident passenger side in oct 2017 car stalled on ppl, minor frame work, car is missing lots of parts, then I had to buy another tire front passenger side, key fob doesn't want to start car,,then I almost got hit driving bc ignition stopped on me driving,, then had starter replaced new on 8/26/2018 to top that off on Aug 28 car stalls again, friend comes over with meter to check out car statistics & says car needs the transmission control modular reset so I can drive, so then try to drive car on sept 5th, won't move, so I have to get rides, then on sept 12th start up, try to drive it & the car stops, tried to drive it back to k & m Dodge on sept 12th 2018,, it's been there since that day bc not drivable, needs a new transmission, I can't afford bc I am on disibility (social security disabilty), I called a lawyer on 2/17/2018.
Car cuts off while in motion. This is an issue that many owners have had. Dealerships say it was "released too early and it has a lot of bugs in the system" I have had my kids in the car every time this has happened!!! was almost in a wreck this time at my daughter's school. Also, car will not start sometimes unless I put it in gear and "trick" it. I have replaced the starter numerous times thinking that was it. . . . Has cut off when on the highway, residential street, parking lots, in motion and stationary. . . Happens often.
Have been having issues with my car either taking several attempts to start or not even start at all. Happens periodically. I have taken it to the dealership several times for this issue and they were not able to pin point what was causing the problem. They did replace several things, included the starter. Still having the same issue!.
Recall the starters! I am sick of bwing syranded because our car won't start!!!! this is an issues for thousands of people!.
I have a 2009 Dodge Journey that periodically will not start. Alternator, starter, and battery all fine. I have been reading that it may be a problem with the neutral safety switch and I am apparently not the only person this is happening too. This left me stranded on 7/1/17 and 7/3/17. Please address this issue!.
Randomly, vehicle will not start. Can drive it to the store, come back out and it will not crank. All interior lights, etc. , will be on but engine will not turn over. After it sits for a while (but you never know for how long) it will start again. Battery and starter are good. I hear a clicking noise coming from the car after it's been shut of, sometimes hours later. Newest issue is that indicator lights all come on when you start the car and car jerks violently when you are driving. If you connect a diagnostic tool and clear the codes before you start it, the car runs smoothly. I am shocked and frustrated to see that there are so few recalls when I am reading that the same problems are consistently occurring.
Car has been randomly not starting, most times it will start in neutral, have had car in shop repeatedly, can't find reason, problem is intermittent, ignition recall was done just prior to start ing isues beginning but I was told by dealert it was not a related issue had starter replaced in June, then had new battery put in, took car into dealer in Nov for drivers side airbag squib that had to be replaced by by dealer. Since that repair car car has drained battery 4 times. First time could not get it jumped put trickle charger on it for about 2 hours started right up, it died again charged it drove it around never shutting it off anywhere took it to mechanic, starter was good battery was good but low, so it was warranted out with brand new one. Car was fine for 4 days. Did not drive it for 2 days, now it will not start, and when I put battery charger on it, it clicks and chatters and tries to start on its own without the key in the ignition. It is new years day so nothing is open.
The problem began around 2 years ago, the vehicle wont start when the ignition key is engaged. There aren't any clicks or cranking just silence. After 10, 15 or 20 minutes the vehicle starts after the attempt. This problem probably won't occur in the next number of starting but suddenly the same problem, it won't start. I live in northwest illinois and in the fall and winter this happen more often than spring and summer but it occurs fewer times. I read on the internet that many owners complain about the same problem, some paid a lot of money to the dealership to fix the problem, but the dealerships some times replaced a lot of unnecessary parts and the problem wasn't solved. I contacted the in town Chrysler dealer right after the problem began. They weren't sure how exactly to solve the problem. They suggested trial and error process. I didn't wanted to spend a lot of unnecessary money, and the problem won't be solved. Last week the service advisor noted that possible solution but not guaranteed is to replace the starter connector as might be corroded in which I have suspicions, because doing this job takes a lot of time and of course big bill to the dealer. Someone will say it is business, but in this case isn't because it is Chrysler fault of making vehicle's with the same problem. It is a safety issue it could be about life and death sometimes. Imagine if some of this vehicles suddenly turn off on the railroad or in the middle of intersections, or a criminal is chasing a Dodge Journey patron and the patron wants to escape with his vehicle and the vehicle won't start that is death or catastrophic injury!!! I believe that you have a lot of the same complaint from current owners and you don't have a lot from people who will fix the problem by selling the vehicle, and someone else will became the lucky owner. This is a case for factory recall. Thank you.
I' got this car and the repairs never stopped coming. I've replaced the brakes & rotors 4 times in 3 years. I had to pay to have the car re-wired due to electrical problems & add a starter, replaced hoses. Shocks and ball joints. This has to be the worst vehicle ever.
Since I've bought this car in 2013 I've had problems with it starting. A few days after I bought it I had a problem took it to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body. 2 years later had a problem again and it went away. Now it is doing it again and I never know whether or not it is going to start. I've been stranded multiple times and had to get it towed home. My lights radio and everything work the car just won't start and I only get clicking sound. Its not the battery and not the starter. We have found disconnecting the battery for a little while will reset the computer and then it will start. However I do not know how to do that and I shouldn't have to. If it doesn't start I have to wait for my husband to come get me and do it. My car has been recalled many times for different electrical problems and I think the should be held resposible for this too. Your car not starting is a major safety hazard depending on where you are or if have children with you on a hot day. We had our grandson with us one day last month and got stranded, we parked the car and came back an hour later and wouldn't start. All lights and radio came on. We called for a jump from roadside assistance and they said an hour and half wait. We went back in the store for an hour and came out to see if it would start and it did. No jump or anything! and everyday other day since then it's been the same thing. If you google the 09 Dodge Journey starting problems there are many many complaints of people having the same issues. Please recall this car!!.
I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey in March 2015. It gave me no issues until after I completed the key fob recall in August 2015. Since then, it would randomly not start. It was in and out of the dealership several times and the following parts were replaced, all of which were covered under the extended warranty I purchased with the vehicle: fuel injector on oct. 9, a new battery on oct. 29, 2015, a new starter on Nov. 16, 2015, a leaking overflow container on Nov. 24, 2015, the tipm was replaced on April 11, 2016, and most recently electrical wires and cables on June 7, 2016, which hook up to the starter. I called Chrysler headquarters on or about may 2 to report these issues and I received very poor customer service. I was told that my vehicle is too old and has too much mileage for them to do anything for me. The Journey has had episodes almost every day, sometimes more than once a day, of not starting since I got it back last week. The dealership told me when it does act up, to put it in neutral, which has been successful in getting the vehicle to start. They are taking it back on Monday to replace yet another part that they hope will finally be the answer to this ongoing nightmare, but I¿m not getting my hopes up. If we weren¿t in an upside-down loan, we would have traded in the Journey a long time ago. It is not a reliable vehicle¿luckily I haven¿t been stranded in a remote location at night, but it doesn¿t seem right that I should have to resort to taking that chance. I¿ve never had so many issues with any other vehicle I¿ve owned!.
I am not able to open any doors except the driver door. The trunk will not open and Dodge did not build a manual key entry for this model. Also I have a starting problem the car stalls and won't start unless I put it in neutral or jiggle the gear up into drive and back into park. The car turns very slowly when making left hand turns and the engine revs up sometimes when it's trying to pick speed back up after a turn. The dealer told us it was the battery and we had them install a new one but the issue is still there. I've read several complaints about the same issue. Customers getting their batter, starters all the recalls updated because they were told those were the issues but was not as their issue still existed as do mine. I don't want to spend a fortune at the dealer until they find what the problem is. The manufacturer should know what the problem is from all the complaints being the same. I emailed them for suggestions of what they think it may be and they just said take it to the dealership.
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the key failed to turn in order to start the vehicle. The contact had to make several attempts to get the vehicle to start. The contact waited for nine months for the part for NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system) to become available. The dealer was not able to determine when the part would become available. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the battery and the starter but the failure persisted. The contact disconnected the automatic start feature as a precaution due to the failure progressing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
On four separate occasions, I attempted to start my vehicle (all lights, radio work) and only hear clicks of the starter and the vehicle did not start. On the second occasion, the vehicle finally started after approximately thirty minutes. I took the Journey to an auto center and they tested the battery, which was registering at 490 cca and they suggested I get a battery soon. On the third occasion, I went to pick my wife up from a doctors appointment and stopped the Journey for less than five minutes. I attempted to start the Journey and it did not start for over 30 minutes. I attempted to have the vehicle jump started; however, after three separate vehicles attempted to jump my Journey, it did not start and had to call a tow truck. After the tow truck driver charged the battery for approximately 5 minutes, the vehicle started. I immediately had the battery replaced and thought the issues was solved. On the fourth occasion, all four of which took place in a three week period, after stopping at a store for approximately 10 minutes, the Journey did not start. After waiting for approximately 30 minutes, the vehicle finally started. I have reviewed the recalls and this is not listed, yet there are multiple complaints of this issue. I will be attempting to have all current recalls repaired and hope this issue is take care of before myself or someone in my family is seriously injured due to this happening while driving on the highway.
This isn't the first time this has happened, we think there is something wrong with the ignition. I've replaced the starter, battery and got a tranny all within a year. The car will not start but I have power, the radio and lights come on, I have to let it sit for a minute retry it and hope it works. I'll be calling the dealership and see what they can do, but this is an 09 Journey nothing major should be going on.
Vehicle would not start. Had the battery changed but 3 days later vehicle would not start. Had the starter changed but 2 days later vehicle would not turn over. Ignition just make s a clicking sound. Mechanic claims '09 Journey are notorious for electrical problems and will replace the starter again although he doubts that will help. Unfortunately my wife drives this vehicle with 4 children. I'm very concerned about her getting in a bad situation on the road. Vehicle gas already had multiple recalls over the past few years. What can I do? any recourse to have Dodge fix the problem thru a recall? I have read that this is an ongoing problem with many customers.
For almost a year the doesnt start when it doesnt want to I get in the car and everything lights up and the engine just clicks ive had the starter replaced the battery the some modual with new keys the shifter and nothing has helped im at a loss the car has been towed more times than I can count ive been stuck with my children in dark parking lots far from home it happens way to much and the fact that they cant fix this [roblem is rediculous no oe should have to deal with this I have now been in a rental for 3 weeks im sick over this I lost my car in sandy and bought this stupid one to replace that and now im trying to fix my hme and a car I pay cash for.
While driving on the freeway @ about 70 mph suddenly the steering locked up and there was no power. While I was trying to merge over to the side of the freeway( I had to cross 3 lane, I was almost hit by multiple cars. I had no control of the car. I managed to get off to the side off the freeway and happened to look down to see the ignition key turned to the off position. I dont have any other keys attached to it because I had just had the starter replaced maybe 1 week before & was advised not to. I started the car thinking maybe it was a freak thing and it wouldnt happen again. It did 2 days later. This time I was approaching an intersection turning left on a green arrow. Just as I started to turn the car turned off making it very difficult to turn and barely missed a group of people on the sidewalk where my car ended up before stopping. I had the car towed to the service center the dealership I bought the car from. This was not a Dodge, Chrysler, or Jeep dealership either. I was told that rwi module had to be replaced and it was not covered under my warranty and Dodge would not cover it either. While the car was being repaired I came across recall l25. But was told my VIN number was not included in the recall. The car was in the repair shop for 5 days. It cost me over $600. The day I picked the car up I came across documentation of the expansion to the l25. I was then again told the VIN was not part of the recall & an investigation was being done and eventually the VIN would be in the recall but I could not be given a date as to when this would happen. I called Dodge corporate offices and was told the same thing. I feel like I own a coffin on wheels. . All in all I have had this car in for repair for the key turning to the off position 3 times now. Something needs to be done now before someone is seriously hurt or killed in a crash because of this defective part.
2009 Dodge Journey. Has an intermittent starting issue. Car will go weeks, even months without any problems. Then it will fail to operate the starter motor. If it sits for a few minutes of hours, the car will eventually start. Taken to local auto repair center. Tested battery, alternator, and electrical system, with no apparent reason for the problem. Please notify auto maker of this situation.
We bought this vehicle in April of 2014 with approximately 116,000 miles on it. The day after we bought the vehicle it began not starting and leaving us stranded for minutes to hours at a time. I have six children that regularly ride in this vehicle with me, and it has left us stranded at least once a week (often much more) since we bought it. It has a brand new key fob (bought and programmed by a Dodge dealership when we purchased the vehicle). It has had two starters replaced (one before and one just after we bought it, on the assumption that they had received a bad starter). I have been in a Dodge dealership getting my oil changed, when it wouldn't start for them, and they wouldn't put it on the computer to isolate the issue, because they didn't have time. When we attempt to start the car, all we will get is a click. All of the lights, radio, etc work just fine, but it will not start. Sometimes it takes two or three attempts to start. Sometimes it is well over an hour. We are aware that our vehicle is under recall for a win detent ring, however, all of the dealerships we've spoken with say that they don't have the part and can't give us an estimated time on when it will be available. This is extremely concerning to me, given that the issue could cause my vehicle to shut down while I am driving at high speeds on the highway with my children. We also had new brakes put on when we purchased it (less than 10,000 miles ago), and it already needs new brakes. Please investigate this issue. We can't get a straight answer from Dodge as to what could be the issue. I am concerned over the fact that numerous times we've been stranded in extreme heat, and now we are going into winter where we get extreme cold. It is unsafe. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the driver's side power window controller failed and he was unable to activate any electronic components on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to independent mechanic however, the technician was unable to diagnose the exact failure but replaced the starter, battery and all of the fuses. The remedy failed to repair the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 114,000 and the current mileage was 114,005.
