37 Starter problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

Car refuses to start, insert fob car just clicks but will not turn over, sometimes doors won't open. Replaced battery in winter, 2 starters this summer (within one week), new batteries in fob, green wire to starter cleaned, took out fob and locked doors and unlocked doors (one site suggested they thought it might have to do with anti theft device), tried tapping/wiggling the gear shift (as suggested on another site), have tried all dealership and internet suggestions). I ask if it was a defected fob and was told "no". Have been stranded in extreme heat for 30 minutes and longer, stranded in very cold weather (thank god my daughter was at the same store I was at, in her Honda). Dealership stated it would cost a lot to try to find issue, this is not a consumer issue but Chrysler issue. Chrysler is aware so it should not be my dollar that finds their defect. (one site suggested the power integrated distribution module rl692302-ae - $1k to correct. ). Surprised there isn't already a recall for this issue since there are numerous reported from other owners. Afraid to drive car, don't know if it will just stop running while driving down the road, don't know if I will get stranded for hours. Took in for l25 recall and dealership stated that wasn't the issue. Fine still wanted the recall corrected. Safety hazard especially if it turns out to be electrical, might cause a fire. Need help!!!!!.

38 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2013

We purchased this vehicle used at the end of 2013. We had two occurrences fairly spaced apart where the vehicle would not turn itself off after turning the ignition to off and removing the key. With key in hand, standing outside the vehicle, the engine was still running. We took it to a Dodge dealership near our home, they hooked it up to try every code and every recall that could possibly have been an answer. They found no answer. We also had the battery replaced about that time. Now here we are September of 2014. Less than a year later, and the problem has become an every day occurrence. The car will not start without a jump, it will not hold its charge either. We have had our starter and alternator checked, which are both fine. Now after jumping the car, we start heading to our destination. The car will not accelerate. It reaches about 25mph and then the rpms continue to climb into the 4s, 5s, 6s, and 7s if I try to go any faster, it just will not shift. Now after patiently driving to our destination at 25mph, the car does not shut off after turning the key off. We must open our hood and pull a fuse to stop our engine. It has gotten so bad to where I cannot transport my 3 year old daughter to the babysitter or make it to either of my jobs. I need an answer and no dealership seems to have one. Please help!.

The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags, electrical system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. 40 Starter problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2013

Put the key fob in the ignition, the car would not read the fob. . . Tried both keys a few times and finally it started. Everything else on the remote (lock, unlock, automatic start, panic) works. . . Can use the automatic starter. . . As soon as the key is inserted, the car turns off. . . Sometimes the display reads bad key and sometimes it doesn't react at all. After trying 10-30 times, it reads the key and the car starts. We took to the dealer and are being told that the entire wireless ignition module and keys need to be replaced, which s going to cost us over $600. I have done some research and am seeing that this is a common issue with our make and model, but am unable to find a recall directly related to our issue. In my opinion, this is not something that should just "break" out of nowhere on a car that is less than 5 years old.

42 Starter problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2013

My 09 Dodge Journey would fail to start on multiple occasions since owning the vehicle. It would make a clicking noise and take several tries to get it to start. The dash lights would also fail to come on while trying to start it. I would also have to wait 1 or more hours til I could get it to start. I have put in a new altenator and starter in it. Finally on July 3rd 2014 it quit starting altogether, stranding me at work. I have also had a few incidents when the air bag light would come on, after a few minutes it would go back off. I have called a few Dodge dealers in my area and they claim to be aware of the issue and said it was either my key or a win module. If they are aware of this issue why is there no recalls on it. I have done research on my vehicle only to find out I am among thousands of people with the same issue.

43 Starter problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2013

My 2009 Dodge Journey has not regularly started for over a year off and on. When turning it to the starting position it will just click. It will never start in park and after much research I have found that putting it into neutral would start it which worked for a little over a year. Now over a year later of putting it into neutral to start I am finding that its not working any longer. I have had this vehicle since 2012 so only a year afer I bought this I started having the problems. In 2013 I replaced the starter and it didnt start 2 hours after replacing it. I have researched and have seen I am not the only one with this problem. I am a mother of 3 kids and can not be stranded someplace becasue Chrysler doesnt want to take the responsibilty to recall the problem and fix it!! this problem needs to be fixed for all of us experiencing it!! why hasnt it?.

44 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

Tl - the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start unless it was shifted into neutral first. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the starter and battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the remedy failed to repair the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 43,000. Kmj.

45 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

I went out to start the car to go to work and the engine would not turn over when I attempted to start it. I tried for several minutes to start the car and it would not start, there would just be a clicking sound. I even tried to jump start it and that didn't work. So after reading posts online from other owners I had my wife buy a battery and then after some trying it did. Start. I have since this first incident experienced this issue making it a total of three times within three weeks. I would go out to start the car and it would just click without starting. I also found this on another site from someone who had the same issue but instead of me the consumer spending my own money to see if this is the problem, Dodge should be doing a recall on this vehicle. (we had an issue with our Journey not starting. All of the dash lights would come on but it wouldn't turn over. The dealership started by re-programming the key fob and then replaced the starter. Both had no affect on the problem and the car continued to not turn over at the most inconvenient time. The day before leaving on vacation, it happened again. The dealership provided us with a rental and they kept the car to try and figure out the problem. I had provided them with a list of complaints listed here which helped them to narrow down the issue. It turns out that it was the sensor that tells the car that it's in park that wasn't working. Although the car is in park, the sensor wasn't sending the right message and was preventing it from starting. It took a month before we got the car back but we've been running it now for nearly two months and not one instance has occurred. If you are experiencing this issue, have the dealership replace this sensor. It worked for me).

46 Starter problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2012

Today after a short trip, the engine refused to start. It clicked, but nothing. Everything else worked. Doors locked and unlocked, windows opened and closed, but as for the starter, nothing. This is the 3rd time the car has refused to start first time. Both other times were less than a year ago. The dealer has not yet been contacted, so I don't know what it will do. A federal complaint will be filed and a link to this site will be provided. 45 or 46 similar complaints are far too many for this not to receive serious attention. The following link shows 45 other similar complaints. . Read more...
