Intermittent starting issues for the past 3 years. Replaced the starter twice within that time frame.
When trying to start vehicle I just get a click sound near the dash and no start. All light come on but no start. This has been and ongoing issue for two months and would selectively start when it wanted. Now it will not start at all. This has caused my battery to drain. Battery, alternator and starter all test fine. Research points towards the win module but my VIN was not issued in the previous recall.
The 2010 Dodge Journey will randomly start honking, even when driving or sitting in traffic. It may be a long honk or several short beeps. After parking it will not start, there is power going to the vehicle, it just won't start. Have had battery changed, starter checked and alternator checked. . . All in good condition. It seems to have the mechanics stumped as to what to do in order to correct these problems. It has been ongoing for some time now, and after researching other 2010 Dodge Journey problems, it seems that this issue with honking and not starting is a huge issue. There are videos all over youtube and comments in car forums talking about the same problems and Dodge mechanics have no clue as to what to do, while the Dodge company simply does not care that these cars not as reliable as they should be.
Car was driven 180 miles, then turned off for 30 minutes, attempted to restart car. Power went to the gauges, but engine did not turn over (no starting noise). Jump starting the battery did not work. Engine turned over after turning the fob key a 7th time. Dealership replaced battery, alternator, and starter. Problem still occurring when vehicle is stationary - it's an apparent random ability to start engine. Mechanic is stumped. Internet comments state that Chrysler-brand cars have apparently been dogged with power module failures for years, which can cause airbag non-deployment, fires, stalling, unintended acceleration, headlamp problems, and damage to other components. In particular, 2007 to 2014 model year cars are said to be affected. A California lawsuit succeeded in obtaining reimbursement for tipm (fuse box) replacements, diagnosis, rental car expenses, and unnecessary repairs done to fix a non-start or stall condition as a result of a vehicle's tipm fuel pump relay failure. Oddly enough, before the non-start problem occurred the vehicle's horn would engage while the car was parked (and not accidentally turned on via wireless fob). Mechanic could not find reason for that, either.
The car will not start sometimes, with no reasoning behind it. Battery and alternator have both been tested as good in 3 different locations. I can turn it and it will make one click but not turn over and start. However, all the lights works, I can use power locks, radio, lights, charge port but yet the car will not turn over and start. I've read online to put the car in neutral when this happens and it will start. I have not tried it yet because it has not happened since I got it tested. Each time it will usually start on it's on after turn the key on and off several times. Also, the starter has been tested and is in good condition. All reasoning anyone can give me is an electrical defect. It has been happening for the last 2 months and getting more frequent.
This vehicle has had multiple issues. Starter sounds like it's sticking at start of engine this has always been a problem since we got the vehicle. In 2018 I had to replace the battery and the alternator because the car would shut off while driving, at one point with my 5yr old daughter exiting the freeway(a very scary and extremely unsafe experience) replaced water pump and top front hose after I found puddle of fluid from coolant tank. Other work done ,replaced cv joints, loud clicking when sharp turns were made and shocks and struts replaced. Then all of a sudden the car shuts off while driving as it did before alternator was fixed. Now I'm experiencing more electrical issues lights turning on and off on their own, ac will blow air some times and other times no air at all. The traction light comes on and car will not go over 20-30 mph. Gas will not rev up. Going to get car towed to the mechanic today to diagnose . Seems to be a lot of people experiencing similar issues with this vehicle model. Something needs to be done, will be calling Chrysler and Dodge dealership.
Remote starter doesn't work keypad will not open doors alarm keeps going off when opening doors when opening doors anytime.
First major problem is car starts when it feels like it, had to replace starter ($520) in the first week that I owned the vehicle after getting a jump several times I purchased I jump kit ($125)in case it wouldnt start and there were no other cars around then the jump kit wouldnt even work. So I had to have the car towed ($130) and the starter replaced. If I shut the car off and try to start it again 10 mins later it wont start but if you wait about an hour, it will start. This still happens after having the starter replaced so I have to keep the car running or risk being stranded for an hour or so. Second problem, about a month after buying the vehicle I was on the highway and was using the cruise control, was going down a hill and the rpms went all the way up into the red and high as it could then went down to zero and the engine completly stalled while on the highway. Since then I haven't used the cruise control. Thirdly, the passanger side has zero heat. The defroster, the heat vents on the dash and the heat vents at the feet all blow out cold air. Fourth problem, the horn would honk randomly, while driving or parked. 5th problem the key fob does what it wants when it wants. Came out of the mall and my alarm was going off (just the lights I had to remove the horn fuses because of the honking issue) and could not turn the alarm off or unlock the doors with the fob, had to use the actual key from inside the fob to get in the car and then start it, shut if off then I was able to shut off the alarm. 6th problem the car will randomly unlock when I'm not even holding the key fob and the front windows will roll down half way. This car has been nothing but issues since I bought it Dodge needs to have a recall for this vehicle there are so many safety issues! bought this car because I wanted a safe vehicle for my family and this car had been anything but!.
Occasionally car will not start. A few hours later it will start. Happens 3x per month for past 6 months. Also windshield wipers occasionally will not work. Battery, starter, & alternator test good. Suspected problem is within the tipm.
I've had my truck two years and I have replaced the starter 5 times. I just replaced it on 11-11-18. Today is 11-17-18 and its going out again. I've heard that all the 2009 and 2010 are having the same problems. And the repair shops don't know whats gping on.
My Dodge Journey will leave me stranded, in what it seems, the most inconvenient times. This issue will happen at least twice a week now. I will turn the ignition and tried to start the car, but all I'll get is a "click" sound. Sometimes putting the car in neutral works, most of the time doesn't. Sometimes I can't even get the car out of park, even when the key is inserted and moved to start. What it seems to work almost everytime is to wait it out. It's a huge waste of time, but I've waited anywhere from 18 minutes up to 1 hour and 34 minutes. I've taken the SUV on multiple occasions to the dealership and spend more than $2,000 in apparent fixes that doesn't do anything. I've done recalls for the ignition and the wire harness, as well as replacing the battery (twice), starter (three times) and the neutral safety position switch (once). Called Dodge on multiple occasions, but their response is that they don't know what's causing this problem and that apparently there's not enough complaints about this issue. This is the vehicle my wife uses to go to work and take the kids around. I've read that some people, their vehicles, just stopped working in the middle of the street while they were driving. Super unsafe and Dodge doesn't want to take responsibility for their malfunction.
Car intermittently will not start no error code comes up. Dealership has replaced the battery, alternator, and starter and the issue is still happening. I've taken it to several mechanics and they are unable to resolve. When trying to start the car it only clicks and won't start. This is when vehicle is stationary and its been going on for months.
Have had intermittent starting issues as I have found do many other owners of this vehicle. Turn key fob and no start. Starter and battery have been changed. Many similar complaints online. I was told by mechanic until it is no start at all, dealer able to duplicated or check engine light illuminates for code nothing they can be done. Been dealing with this issue intermittently for 3 years.
On numerous occasions, this car will not start. When turning the key it will click but not turn over. I have had if into the mechanics several times, they have tested the starter, had the spark plugs changed, including the wires. Still intermittently will not start. Especially if it's hot out or car is hot. Some times it takes multiple turns of the fob to turn over engine. I have read car gurus forums and hundreds complain of this same issue. It does sometimes start if you depress brake pedal then put it in neutral position then turn key and it will start. This has been going on now for about 2 yrs and no mechanic can seem to figure out the issue. I had shut my vehicle off the other day while waiting for a long train to pass at a crossing, as soon as the train passed and was able to cross over tracks, the Dodge Journey would not restart, was almost rear ended from cars behind me. Took multiple attempts to start this vehicle. There is clearly an outstanding ignition issue with this vehicle. When I contacted Dodge dealership they also were aware of this intermittent issue but had no solution. Someone needs to look at this issue as a serious problem. A rear end collision can cause airbags to deploy as well causing injuries, all because your car won't restart if you turn ignition off due to traffic delays or train crossings.
Air bag light is on car electrical system malfunctions engine starts when it wants to. I've already replaced the battery and starter.
Vehicle will not start after sitting idle and off at random times. In past 2 weeks car would not start at least twice, 3 times in the past 6 months. Battery, starter, and alternator has all been changed and still had a shutoff. When turning the key a click sound would happen but no turnover. Lights would be on and no low battery warning.
Rebuilt cylinder heads due to misfire in 2 cylinders. Engine will not start, starter will just click when key is turned. Horn beeps by itself.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and loss power. The vehicle was able to restart. In addition, the vehicle would not start when prompted. The contact stated that livonia Chrysler Jeep (30777 Plymouth rd, livonia, michigan 48150) replaced the vehicle battery three times and the starter was replaced twice. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, they could not duplicate the failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 65,803.
It's not your starter or alternator it's your neutral cut out (safety switch). Have to put it in neutral to start. Own a 2010 and have called and complained about it as it is a safety problem. If you don't get any satisfaction from your dealer or Dodge file a defect complaint form and get them to investigate a recall. Save your receipts for all expenses incurred for this issue and they will reimburse you. It's been happening more often it is sporadic, looking up this info. I see it is a problem with these vehicles I need it fixed I can not afford to get stuck I am a single mom.
Driving down the interstate, all of a sudden my heating/cooling would shut off along with my radio. Then it would come on. It did this several times. Shortly after that, my turn signals no longer worked and it caused me to almost get in an accident. I was driving approximately 65-70 mph. It continued to do this even after stopping. A week later, as I got up to go to work in the morning, it wouldn't start. It would just click when attempting. It wasn't sending the signal to the starter to get it going. I was stranded. I feel like my vehicle is possessed and it's really scary.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. When the vehicle was started, it made a clicking noise but failed to start right away. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated that it took multiple attempts to start the vehicle most of the time. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and replaced the starter. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 82,000.
My Journey was working fine until a few months ago, when the battery seemingly died. I replaced it (no small feat) and all was good for a bit. Now, every third day, I go out and the car is dead. The battery is brand new, but the car acts as if it is dead. I disconnect the negative lead, [put it back on, and voila, it starts again. The battery is fine. At least for a day, and the repeats. . . Over and over. I took it in for the recall on the steering column electrical issue and it lasted for a week after that, and then dead again. I see the forums that say lots and lots of people have had this problem. . . Has anyone actually got it fixed in which it has stayed fixed? since Dodge refuses to acknowledge that this is a problem, we are in a bad catch-22 in which the dealer can't/won't fix it because if they acknowledge that this is an issue, then they feel responsible for it, which they can't /won't do. So I am in the endless back-and-forth with repair places, who I suspect just disconnect the negative terminal, reconnect it, call victory and change me $200. I have replaced starter, alternator and battery 3 times.
Bought 2010 Dodge Journey (used) from tom wood Ford dealership. I have made 3 payments. The vehicle would not start leaving me stranded in a parking lot. I tried to jump it without success. When I turned the key to jump it, white smoke came from the engine compartment and there was a strong odor of melting plastic. I grabbed my kid and belongings and fled the vehicle. I had it towed to shop. They replaced the battery and sent me on my way. The next day it started rough. I drove it approximately 2 miles to a gas station. It would not restart. Had it towed back to shop for further evaluation. All lights, radio, power windows, etc. Are functioning, starter makes clicking sound, alternator checked out ok, new battery installed, but it will not start. Mileage is 81,759.

Since January 2014 I have taken my vehicle in multiple times to the dealership for intermittent starting issues. It also has a slow crank occasionally this is more random then it not starting. When I try to start it it just clicks. If I wait a few minutes then try to start it again eventually it will start. This car has left me stranded many times and late for work/appointments. The dealership has replaced the tipm fuse box, starter, battery and all key fobs and it still will not start randomly. I have noticed that most of the time when it will not start it is because the car is hot(after being driven for a significant amount of time) or simply just sitting out in the sunlight. When the dealership hooks it up the their machine it does not throw an error code. So they keep telling me "they are scratching their heads they do not know what is wrong and do not know how to fix it" this is not an acceptable answer to me after looking on this website there are multiple complaints for the same issue. Chrysler needs to figure it out and put out a recall for it. I have called chryslers customer support multiple times I have had a case open for 4 weeks I have never heard from my case manager just someone calling on her behalf. I can't seem to get anywhere with Dodge. I am taking it back to the dealership tomorrow. I have taken it to the dealership every Monday for the last 5 weeks. They keep it for 3 or 4 days then send it home with no results. . I am not taking it back from this time without better results. This car is only 4 years old it should be a reliable car. I shouldn't be afraid to take it somewhere.
First had a problem with car shutting down and would not start so I bought a battery, because it kept draining then starter made noise had to replace it , then my car started over heating so I was told it was the reservoir so I bought one , now my transmission slips in reverse. I'm still having problems with shut downs no starting, everything is acting up all over again.
While sitting in traffic my car cut off and wouldn't start up again I just recently took my car to pep boys auto and the diagnostic test prove that the ignition switch is stuck in park which caused the starter to go out as well.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while in park, the vehicle failed to start. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to multiple independent mechanics who diagnosed that the alternator, starter, fuel pump and ignition needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was stated that the key was unable to connect to a sensor in the ignition. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I am currently the owner 2010 Dodge Journey awd. I have had to replace tires, brakes, and rotors numerous times; noise from driver door, windows rolling down and doors unlocking by themselves, hard shifting in automatic transmission, car pulsates/steering wheel vibrates violently when braking starting at about 40 mph. I have frequent problems with the locks and alarm when temperatures drop below 40 f, car does not always lock or unlock using either key fob or by pressing button in car, must press it multiple times. Lock mechanism could be heard attempting to turn, lock next to window appeared to be jumping slightly. I have been having problems with my car not starting for several months. I would have to take the key fob out, turn it around, and insert it again. It shut off on me as I was driving 65mph on a main highway. . Almost causing a crash. Ran a diagnostic and it came back that my module was bad, I checked online and it seems there was a recall on this module but only for the "ring. " I contacted the Chrysler and after two weeks of going back and forth with them and the dealership, they informed me they would not help due to high mileage and out of warranty. We are told only dealerships can get this part, install it, and program it. My google searches on this issue shows way too many results for this not to be a serious issue that Chrysler refuses to take responsibility for. A recall needs to be done on this part as well with all of the 2010 Dodge Journey's not just the ones from a certain plant. Once I turn off the car, you can hear the computer shutting itself down and making all kinds of noise, then it appears to reboot, the radio will turn on and stays on for five min. The automatic starter starts on it's own once you shake the key fob. . No need to press the button anymore?! khumo tires on this vehicle have been replaced twice in one year.
Everything first started about 4 months after purchase with the sensor lights randomly coming on while I was driving. I have replaced brakes and rotors 4 times. But the problems within the last 4 months have been the worst. My car will not start all the time very unreliable. I have had to replace the starter twice the battery two starter modules and the ignition and still doesn't work. As soon as it's possible I will get rid of this car and never again as long as I live will never purchase another Chrysler product. They are junk!!!!.
We have had several instances where our 2010 Dodge Journey has failed to start. You put the key in the ignition and everything works fine except that the starter never cranks over. I have done a lot of searching to see if other people have had the same problem. A quick google search returns several accounts of Journeys not starting. Most of these complaints remain unsolved. There seems to be a problem either with wiring or win modules. We have not taken our vehicle to the dealer yet however today was the 10th time that this problem has arisen in less than three weeks, often leaving us stranded completely for hours.
