This situation is occurring more and more often with this vehicle. The vehicle will be in drive, moving, and in the middle of a road or highway just shutdown completely. It happened 4 times 2 weeks ago. Brought to a auto mechanic and nothing could be discovered to be malfunctioning.
My horn started to honk on its own the front windshield wipers will not stop and the turn signals does not work anymore I was told the clock spring needs replaced there is a recall on google but now showing with my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the horn engaged unintendedly while driving. The contact stated that the failure persisted even while the vehicle was parked and turned off. The vehicle was taken to aaa several times, and the battery and the battery terminals were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
Vehicle repeatedly fails to start because of ignition system defect I have to wiggle or finesse the key fob in the ignition slot to get the car to start. The problem has happened many times. The first time I crashed into my shed I was so scared. And now the vehicle will not start at all leaving me in my family straight on the roadside I am aware of existing recall ro3 for the ignition switch wind module on this model year my vehicle either was not repaired or still exhibiting the same defect after prior service. This is a safety issue because it leaves driver stranded unexpectedly and may also cause the ignition to shut off while driving I request an hstsa investigate further or ensure the manufacturer repair repairs this issue under recall.
Since buying my car, it has completely shut off while driving down the street 3 times with the key still in the run/on position. When it has done this I've lost power steering, power braking and complete power loss. The 3rd time this happened while I was taking my children to school and almost caused us to crash so I called a local locksmith, because I thought it was my key because the remote functions (lock, unlock, panic, and remote start) had stopped working also, paid for a new key and programming, only to find out it wasn't just the key, it was also the wireless ignition node module was defective too so I had to have it replaced and programmed as well. The locksmith asked my permission to disassemble the win module to inspect it for the cause of the problem and he said that there was a bad contact point inside that was breaking connection and causing the shutdown. I had to pay $1000. 00 for these parts and service and I no longer have access to the module that was originally in my car since he took it apart. Thank god I managed to avoid any accidents when these incidents happened. The first time was in March of 2025.
It all started with no starts and had starter replaced and then charging problem had new battery and alternator replaced . Then driving to work all the dashboard lights lit up like a christmas tree and died a couple of times once in the middle of the road . Even when the car was in park and key out of the ignition the lights on dashboard would light up , like the car never totally shut off?replaced ecm afterwards thinking that was the problem but wasn’t the case (I still have the original ecm unit ) and still there was a battery drain , driving it and the lights lit up the dashboard and stalled out . You can here a buzzing sound after the car if off and key is removed ?.
Component malfunction: abs control module (module is part of the electronic stability program and traction control system). Available for inspection: upon request. Safety risk: random locking of front abs system at speeds of 20mph or less (great concern for event happening at a greater speed ). Vehicle manufacturer: admits known risk and problem w/ the abs control module and traction control system and is researching problem-matic modules, but will they not issue a recall. Part is not available . Warning lamps were after the first event (3-13-24): esp and traction control. Videos are difficult to catch do to the random nature of the problem.
The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I (and several other owners of a Dodge Journey vehicle) have noticed the horn sounding randomly. Myself and others with the same complaint believe it to be a faulty/failing horn contact switch, located in the steering wheel. (I believe it is mopar part # 5189428ac ) the safety concern is that horn sounds randomly. When this happens while stopped at red lights, motorists in front of me tend to rapidly accelerate into cross traffic. I believe the safety concern is self explanatory. As it is a random occurrence, it has not been confirmed by a dealership. (though there are countless videos posted to youtube as well as complaints posted to message boards. ) there are no warning lamps or indications that a connection is faulty/failing. According to my research, this has been an ongoing issue for Dodge Journey owners for several years.
Horn honks randomly will driving or turned off/parked. Windows go up/down on their own. Locks/unlocks. Wipers turn on/off. Emergency flashers turn on/blink all on their own. Appears to be an issue with security system. Replaced tipm and still having issues with all of the above. My truck is dead every day, replaced battery twice & crack shaft sensor, still having issues. There is a ticking noise and sounds like my truck is trying to turn itself on without the key in the ignition. Airbag light will not go off. This vehicle is 13 years old and Dodge needs to do a recall for all the issues people are reporting.
Car constantly does not start. I have had to have it towed multiple times after driving places because it just decides to not start. The starter cranks but does not start. Then out of the blue it starts again and will start every day for weeks and then not start again. This started happening this past year and now this past two months got worse where it won't turn back on at all for days on end. I had to take it to a mechanic the second I was lucky enough it decided to start. New starter and new battery did not fix. Mechanic believes computer is bad. It is a security issue. Registering my car as incorrect VIN number to car.
Horn randomly sounds which has nearly caused accidents. The only way to stop it is to remove fuses. This is a common issue with the horn pad wearing.
Horn randomly blows while driving and while parked with engine off. Only solution is to remove fuses to disable horn. No way to blow horn now to alert other drivers of a dangerous situation.
Fuse box is going bad. Rear windows, front mirrors don’t let up or down. 12v doesn’t work. Horn went out. Automatic key lock doesn’t work. Fuse will completely go out soon.
I have been stranded in this vehicle to many times to count. Mostly I had to get a jump to get it back home or keep it running until I returned home. Within the last 30 days I have installed a new alternator and starter. Walmart has installed 4 new batteries due to it being under warranty. So as of today I can't start my car. All the interior lights come on and radio but won't turn over. I tried to get a jump 3 times but still nothing. I am disabled and can't get on public transportation or barely walk up stairs. I'm at zero income and awaiting approval from ssi. So I need someone to assist with this nightmare please. I honestly don't know what else to do.
Brake system has ongoing and continuous defects, malfunctions and failure. I have had calipers fall off and pr stick causing the wheel to overheat and melt the tire rim. Replaced all that. Brakes never seem strong enough to properly stop this vehicle safely. Brake lights stay off and on light a christmas tree. Had several inspections for code errors. Replace entire system in January of 2023. $1,800. Less than 500 miles later, another caliper sticks, then snaps causing entire break assembly to move, damaging yet another wheel rim. I love this vehicle. The room, style. But it's not safe. I've almost caused an accident on the road 3 times due to this useless brake system. This last incident put me in a ditch. It's still in the mechanics shoo. Severe wheel damage this time.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to turn off even after removing the ignition key. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that occasionally the vehicle would shut off while driving at various speeds without warning. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 14v373000 (electrical system, air bags) which she linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 193,410.
Too many electrical problems, the key fob, the ignition won't start until several tries I've had a new starter put in but constantly told it's the electrical component, the car shift gears on its own, told again it's the tcm module electrical problems, the batter dies within a year of getting a new one. Abs system problems, crank shaft system problems, the horn beeps on its own, it's so bad I have to remove chip at night so my neighbors don't complain. . Once again told by everyone that it's an electrical programing problem that I have to go to Dodge dealer to fix. . I don't understand he how come I have to spend so much money for them to keep fixing electric problems. It's worse after a big down pour of rain. . It seems everything shorts out. . . Have to wash it 2 days after it rain to drive my car.
Unknown but airbag light will not go off and everything possible has been looked at and was told that with the light on on the dash, the airbag will not deploy.
For many years (at least 8) this SUV has experienced odd, electrical issues (1) on at least 4 occasions I have found all windows lowered halfway when coming out to the car in the morning. (2) on 2 occasions I could not get the interior lights to turn off. It took multiple restarts and stops to stop effect. (3) about 18 months ago, while parked frequently at night, the horn would start honking. It appeared the alarm system was responding. The remote would not turn it off. Car needed key inserted and to be started. Finally it started randomly blowing while I was driving. I removed fuses to stop issue. (4) recently, overnight, the relatively new (less than a year) battery would be dead in morning. No lights left on. Alternator working. On the 2nd occasion I noticed when jumped the turn indicator was blinking despite not being turned on. This was the first time I decided to seek service help as a dead battery every morning is not just a minor problem. Vehicle current at garage.
The car will randomly shut down while driving.
There is a lighting bolt that repeatedly pops up on dashboard and the car cuts off immediately in mid drive !! I have been to the dealership spent $3200 plus and it just keeps coming back on . Also all the lights flicker on and off while driving or when you hit the turning signals this is ridiculous!! it’s 2022, these issues should had been recalled !!! this is horrible and unsafe especially when driving with children!.
Drove to the park, parked the car. Went for a walk, came back 20 minutes later, car would not start. Turn the key, no sound, all dash light come one, car will not crank, no sound at all. Towed the car to my house, and charged battery for a full day. Car same issue, will not crank, no noise. I turn the key to on, press on the brake and move to neutral, and car still no start. I use the remote starter, and car just clicks a few times and does not start. Basically turning the key to start, lights come on as usual, then no noise no crank no start. This is third day of trying to start this car, never had issues with it for over a year, and never with starting car. No warnings at all, no lights on to show anything bad before this, and no warning after it happened, scanner show no faulty codes detected. From the park waited to be towed and got home after 10 pm, safety, it got dark, it rained and unreliable to just not start.
When I go to start itit's sometimes shut itself off or just doesn't wanna start all the way and the killing mission seem to be loose I can wiggle it around power in then we'll around and get nothing at all ignition seems to we have an issues and sometimes when I have started and I'm driving it all of sudden cuts off and dies just turns off just out of no where while I'm driving.
Vehicle loses power while driving. Sometimes it will not start being stranded with kids as this vehicle was produced as a family car. Had battery, alternator, starter replaced. Have read numerous reports from google about vehicle not starting due to safety security features, problems with the fuse box, needing a yellow wire grounded that is located under the hood, and so on. If this is a know issue with these vehicles for over 10yrs why has it not been recalled to be fixed. As I drive the vehicle on the freeway with my kids in it endaragering our lives and the many others who are on the road with me and the countless other Dodge Journey drivers. Fix this issue. Make Dodge accountable for their mistake as they know what they did.
The contact called on behalf of his mother-in-law who owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that the vehicle was displaying erroneous electrical functions. The contact stated that the windows would roll up and down, the windshield wipers would suddenly activate, the exterior lights would illuminate, the doors would lock and unlock, and the horn would sound. The vehicle also suddenly stalled while driving at various speeds and while also while idling. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the key fob however, the failure persisted. The dealer was contacted and offered to change the fuse box; however, the repair was not performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,199.

The contact steered the vehicle off the main road and shifted the gear shifter into park to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to atlantic Dodge Chrysler Jeep (2330 us 1 saint augustine, FL 32086, (904)797-4383) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
While driving car just turns off for no reason. When pushing the remote start button window roll down. Heated seats will not come on but for a second or two. This has happened several times.
Was driving at approximately 30 miles an hour on a turning road onto a highway and vehicle shut off. Lost all power steering and brakes were hard. Had to immediately get over to the side of the road to avoid traffic coming from the rear as I lost lights as well and may not have been seen as it was dark and the vehicle is black. When pulled over I put the vehicle in park and attempted to restart. After the 2nd time turning the key it started. No check engine lights are present on the car other than a tpms sensor.
Two times I was driving down the highway and vehicle shut down. I was parked then tried to start an would not start. It has a remote start an starts on its own an windows roll down on their own. When I get near the vehicle with the key fab the lights come on an sometimes without pushing the button on key fab it starts on its own. I have been driving an went to turn in driveway an it shut down. Stopped at stoplight an it shut down. It has always started back up except for one time I had to maneuver the key a certain way in ignition before it would start.
My car is shutting off while I'm driving down the road. I almost crashed last night, this is the third time it's happened over the last month. My dad is not allowing me to drive it any longer and I still owe on it so that's not okay. I'm a foster parent to 4 children and our safety is always important but this car is a death trap waiting to happen.
The car engine stalls without warning, power steering locks up and brakes lock up causing all passengers to become a "sitting duck" prone to incoming impacts!.
My wife was driving the car and it shut off while driving. The engine and electric system shut off and she could not use the brakes. She had to coast to a parking lot and then it started up again. We have taken it into a mechanic and there is no information on the computer regarding what happened. He cannot diagnose the problem.
I was driving down the road and all of a sudden the driver airbag light came on, it would then shut off and then ding and turn back on, it did this for several miles before it just stayed on. Another incident that has happened several times is that all the dash indicator lights come on while I'm driving, it puts my car in limp mode, I then have to pull over, shut the car off and then restart it for it to be ok again. This is a real safety concern as well, I could crash and get in a serious accident and I typically have my young kids with me. I searched my VIN to see if the recalls have been done and from what I can see they have, so I don't know if this is a reoccurring electrical issue or if this is something new.
While driving down the road my engine shuts off. I have to put car in neutral and restart engine.
