general problems of the 2015 Dodge Journey - part 1

Valve rocker arms and lifters faulty due to inadequate manufacturing, and engine oil cooler/oil filter housing leaking engine oil due to poor quality materials used during manufacturing.

Vehicle has oil cooler leak which plastic oil filter casing and oil cooler adapter cracked and leaked. Oil pooled up on top of engine casing channel below intake plenum and dripped down to electrical connectors that go into transmission. Engine oil heated and smoked because of heated motor and smoke goes into vehicle cabin causing oil smoke film inside with occupants. Oil mist is in the inside windshield and outside windshield along with wipers. There is a recall for this year Journey 2015 this year engine 3. 6 vet and transmission combination fwd 6spd ;however, the VIN number is not applying to correct the oil cooler and filter replacement under a recall. There is an upgraded part made that does not fail s44 recall; however I had to pay full price for the repair at a dealership and they replaced with the upgraded recalled part. The recall for this repair is s 44 why was not my VIN and vehicle covered under this recall number? please include my VIN number in this recall as well since everything is the same for s44.

Vehicle has p0740 code of which is a recall on the transmission pump. The recall is s 44 however my VIN does not apply even though it’s the same make,model,year, engine and drivetrain as the recall. Please include my VIN number in the recall because the vehicle stalls/ hesitate when the gas pedal is applied and the transmission is trying to downshift when speeding up to change lanes. The situation is dangerous because the driver can lose control of the vehicle when planning to execute and not get a response from the vehicle when accelerating or changing lanes. The problem is more of a 2 to 3 second hiccup and the vehicle seems confused. Include this vehicle and my VIN number in the s 44 recall of which my dealership has stated it should’ve been included with the rest of the 2015 and 2016 caravan, Dodge Journey recalls. Chrysler (fca us llc) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Chrysler town & country, Dodge grand caravan vehicles manufactured July 31, 2015, to April 18, 2016, 2016 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured August 17, 2015, to January 29, 2016, and 2016 ram promaster vehicles manufactured August 15, 2016, to April 15, 2016. The transmission pump may seize causing a loss of hydraulic pressure.

About 3 months ago my check engine light and abs lights are permanently on and I barely have any drive power. I have fixed all possible issues and the lights are both still on and I don’t have much drive power while I drive.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 209,000.

The contact owned a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, she observed a burning odor and the vehicle then stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was coasted to the side of the road where she observed smoke and flames engine from the engine compartment. An unknown driver stopped and used an extinguisher to extinguish the fire but the flames grew too large. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. There were no other damages. The vehicle was towed to a lot where it was deemed inoperable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

After buying used 2015 Dodge Journey driving home from work at busy rush hour traffic my car just stopped with loss of brakes and steering was nearly rear ended was so nervous by this car started since then it keeps doing it but now check engine light is on I'm going thru divorce and he is incarcerated so I don't have a ton of money dealer wants be to pay I have since researched this online and find this to be a repeated over and over again problem this is the first Dodge vehicle I've owned and will be the last I do not feel safe driving this vehicle at all and I don't feel safe with the with Dodge if they're not going to stand behind their product I see that there was problems with that they took care of before the year 2015 but not since although it's the same problem I'm sick of being taken by these large corporations that just getting bigger and bigger on their greed while I struggle and have no help with the situation my car has been sitting for 2 months now in my garage although I'm making payments on it and can't get it titled.

Today while driving on the highway at about 60mph my vehicle lost power causing the car to surge forward. I was unable to steer or brake for several seconds. The gauges completely dropped. It was as if someone had shut the vehicle completely off. The vehicle then restarted on its own. I was nearly rear ended by a semi and am terrified of driving this vehicle anywhere. I did a google search and came across numerous complaints of this happening. No warning lights prior to it happening or afterwards. We have had no issues with this vehicle until this point. It has approximately 90k miles on it.

On/about March 8, 2024 I was driving from st. Petersburg, florida to winter park, florida. I was eastbound on interstate 4 in the inside lane. The traffic was heavy and therefore slow. As I was proceeding at about 35 mph, the engine suddenly died. The vehicle became difficult to steer and the brakes felt abnormally difficult to apply. I was able to coast to the small space that seperated the inside lane from the divider seperating the eastbound lanes from the westbound lanes. After coming to a stop, I put the car in park. I then tried to restart the vehicle. The vehicle started normally and I resumed my travel. My safety and the safety of other drivers was put at risk by the sudden stopping of the engine in the middle of traffic. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independant service center. Since the incident, neither the vehicle nor the engine has been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance rep or anyone else. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to or after the failure.

Faulty keyless ignition node.

Won't start. Multiple repairs and it still happens. Online forums say it's common on 2009-2017 year models.

The contact stated that the vehicle restarted approximately 15 minutes later and was taken to the residence. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 100,101.

This was not an overnight thing. The hoses were being exposed to maximum temperatures each time I drove the car. The hoses going from that extreme heat to cold over and over again which caused little air bubbles in the hoses. As time went on the hoses were forming holes on the inside (up til this point there was no warning indication) because of that three hoses burst. Which caused my car to overheat very suddenly to the point my oil temp shot sky high (which was the first warning light saying my oil was over 300 degrees) and my head gasket was blown before I could get off the road. My windows instantly fogged up from the heat which impaired my vision and resulting in me almost hitting another vehicle when seeking safety to see what was wrong. This has been confirmed by other consumer reports about the faulty hoses. If I knew they were not applicable of being in my vehicle, I would of changed them for more suitable hoses. Luckily nobody got hurt but the instant combustion could of ended in a fatality.

Car's check engine on randomly turned on, lost engine power and steering became hard and had to come to an emergency stop. There was no message for the check engine and a couple tries later the car was able to turn back on and made it back home. Could've been much more dangerous situation had we been on a busy road with nowhere to pull over.

The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the engine cylinder number 6 had experienced a misfire and the engine had experienced low compressed and engine head damage. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The and local dealer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 85,000.

I have had my car repaired a couple of time for the same issue, and both mechanics have told me that there is a recall on my cylinder 2 engine and the manufacturer was not saying anything which is causing the check engine light to come on and codes reading the same every single time: misfire, spark plugs and gaskets which have all been replaced twice in the 5 years of owning this car. The dealership won't help, if there is a recall or issue with my vehicles I need to know so I can transport my family and I safely back and forth. I see a lot of people complain about the same exact problem I'm facing currently. I'm probably out of about $5k maybe more.

The acceleration stopped, the lightening light, traction light and skid light all came on and would not accelerate. Car was on but no gas pedal in the middle of the highway. Oil was changed a week before and no leaks on ground but oil is low. It is very dangerous as it has done this several times over the last month and has caused me to almost be in several wrecks because speed drops and cars almost rear end me. Have replaced the crankshaft position sensor twice no in a month.

This vehicle has a known design defect with the oil filter housing and cooler assembly. This plastic assembly will crack and leak oil into a valley in the engine compartment and eventually will leak oil over the rest of the engine and onto the floor. Other times it will fail completely and leak a large amount of oil and/or coolant causing engine failure. Repair if this occurs out of the warranty period is over $800us. There are many web sites with this same information and they are all the same cause. Chrysler will not affect repair for this issue unless it is in the warranty period. Problem is the failure can happen during the warranty period or after but it will happen. This should be a recall due to potential safety issue. If this happens while traveling at highway speeds, the engine can sieze and suddenly stop possibly causing a crash and injuries to the occupants or other nearby vehicles. Attached is the diagnosis from my mechanic.

The engine started racing, but did not show on the tachometer. No dashboard lights. This problem started this morning (9-19-22). When I put it in gear, it jerks. I have to be extra cautious not to hit anyone or anything. I have had this car almost 2 years. It has been doing fine. I don't understand what could be causing this problem.

While following my fiancé after dinner her Dodge Journey completely shut off while driving but all the dash lights and radio stayed on. She was able to stop the vehicle safely bc I was following her and I was able to stop the traffic. She was still able to steer the vehicle and use the brakes. She stated that there was no warning or anything. I checked to see of any check engine light or anything was on but there wasn't. She did tell me it happen earlier that day at her work while she was standing outside of the car talking to her boss and the vehicle just shut off. My concern is if this happens again herself, my kids, or other individuals could seriously get hurt especially at higher speeds. She will be calling around to some mechanics and see if they can figure out the cause.

The vehicle was taken to o'reilly auto parts where it was diagnosed that the number three cylinder had a bad coil and needed to be replaced. The coil was replaced but the failure recurred. The engine warning light illuminated again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the number three-cylinder coil cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided case number 83819460. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

My car has completely locked up going down the road as in I had gas to go but no power steering nothing overn2nd gear all safety lights came on no brakes and after I got it stopped and turned off it wouldn't turn back on. Now I have an issue with it stalling out after coming off an exit or just to a normal stop sign with no warning it jolts kinda shutters and shuts off acts as if it doesn't want to down shift or stop.

Car engine started knocking while driving home from work. No check engine lights or warning chimes, was not over heating. Car made a loud bang and blew out a puff of smoke. Was stranded along side a busy state route. Was towed to a local garage where they informed me that the engine was blown. They showed me the oil pan which had chunk of metal and pieces of a connecting rod in the pan. This car only had 76,000 miles and we have only had it for not even 6 months. Had an oil change 3 days prior to the failure. I’ve been buying Dodge my entire life but this will be the last one. It was the family car so it put us in a tight spot. Cant get another car because we owe over $13,000 on the loan which still will have to be paid.

I was told by bob steele Chevrolet that the oil change housing is a known problem and cracking which causes oil leakage.

@roughly 87500 miles p0302 error with check engine light and slight vibration felt. Replaced all plugs + all coils no effect. Additional research found known flaw in earlier years ref: service bulletin and extended warranty (x56) - 3. 6l left cylinder head - select 2011 -2013 vehicle. Called car manufacturer they referred to dealer saying warranty not extended for 15 year. Dealer states still known issue but cant help roughly 3800 out of pocket to fix. Or we can contact fca to beg them to fix. Fca referred back to dealer. You are my next step.

The vehicle was then towed to a transmission specialist where it was diagnosed that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however the check engine warning light illuminated while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the thermostat housing and sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the engine oil and the radiator hose were replaced; however the vehicle stalled while driving and failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic where the motor and oil pan gasket were replaced; however the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle was shuddering significantly while driving and stalled. The vehicle restarted after several attempts. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

In 2/2021 after having dealership replace thermostat and front brakes/rotors, I got my car back and then the same day the abs, traction control and abs lights were on the dash, so I returned to dealership, resulting in full corrosion on the wiring harness repair from water leakage and anti lock brake module replacement. Now in late sept (less than 3000 miles later) the abs, traction control and service awd light on the dash again and dealership said it niw needs abs sensor replaced, the module had water in the abs module. This is a safety issue with disables abs and esc disabled. This appears to be related to other similar complaints and Chrysler recall r61 for 2015 Dodge Journeys, but not showing up for my VIN.

While driving the steering wheel locked up and the brakes stopped working, the engine was still running. Breaks were extremely hard to press and was not able to turn the steering wheel at all. Was able to coast to a stop and place the car in park. Once I stopped I placed the car in park, turned off the car and restarted it and worked fine.

I noticed that my heater hose looked like it had some crusted coolant around the tee joint. I looked closer and realized that the tee joint appeared to be cracked on both bottom left and right side of the joint. I literally just grabbed it and it fell apart. I started to do my research and this happend to be a common problem that owners of Dodge Journeys are having because the factory tee joint is made of plastic and is not made to with stand the heat. I went to an auto parts store and was informed that this part has not been released for aftermarket sale. So I called the Dodge dealership and was told that I can not just buy the tee joint. I have to buy the entire assembly with is around $200. I researched how much it would cost for part and labor if I didn't change it my self and that would cost $600. This is a factory issuse so it should not be on the buyer's to have to change this part. It is a safety issuse because I have read that when people have had this issue while driving in the past that the car started overheating out of nowhere and clouds of white smoke poured out of the engine. This could obstruct the drivers view and cause a crash.

Had not started the vehicle for 1 week. With fob in hand I opened the door. With door open I put my foot on the brake (it did not compress), then pushed the start button. The dash flashed on and off saying fob not detected. Tried pushing fob, tried starting car again. Then a loud clicking began at the front of the vehicle in the motor area. The dash flashing stopped and all screens were black. No power to vehicle at all, door locks did not work. Opened hood to see where clicking was coming from, but could not detect. Tried remote start and traditional start as well. Nothing works. Engine clicking finally stopped after about 10-15 minutes. Car has to be opened with the key and will still not start.

The vehicle intermittently shakes at about 45-50 mph. It sounds and feels as if you were going at accelerated speeds over rumble strips. Sometimes this is followed by hard engine thumping. I have noticed during rain and days leading up to rain the issue is more predominant. There are also issues with misfires at idle that is unexplained by several mechanic shops (11 in a matter of 3 years). Because they are unable to recreate any of these issues they are unable to diagnose them. I have been to numerous shops while my car was within warranty and denied any fix due to none of them being able to recreate this issue. Now my warranty is up and the issue still persists even after thousands spent on attempting to get a diagnosis. This is extremely dangerous! complete stability and control of the vehicle is lost and will inevitably cause a serious incident. In the middle of the highway during misfires the cars abs and traction control lights come on and the vehicle goes into low power mode almost instantly.

Transmission is slipping had it looked at several time and cant find anything had the oil checked and its still good.

I own a 2015 Dodge Journey 63000 miles. When the vehicle was in motion on a major street traveling 49mph the car jerked, deaccelerated abruptly and the steering wheel became tight. It did not slow down it deaccelerated. There was no warning or code on prior to this happening. I was lucky there was not anyone behind me nor on a highway. Took it to the dealer and they said it was "failed crank position sensor. " it had a code of p0339. We paid dealer to fix it - obviously. I noticed there is a recall for crankshaft position sensor on 2016 Dodge Journey - I beg that you recall cankshaft position sensor for Dodge Journey 2015.

I have made several attempts to fix the continual misfiring, loss of power while driving performance to no avail. After spending thousands of dollars at the local Dodge dealership(s) and mechanics, I now have a car that is unsafe to drive due to known issues with the 3. 6 pentastar engine. This engine was recalled by Chrysler for years prior to my 2015 year. However, the Dodge cars like my Journey are experiencing the very same problems. I have reached out to my state of consumer department in georgia. They have referred me to NHTSA as they have declared it a safety issue which outside of their scope.
