My 2016 Dodge Journey experienced a crankshaft position sensor "a" circuit malfunction (obd code p0335) while I was driving, resulting in an engine stall and total loss of power. Nearly resulted in a crash. I've since observed from other drivers that this is a very common failure on the Dodge Journey, and a serious safety issue. A recall for this problem (safety recall s89 / NHTSA 16v-907) was issued in February 2017, but applies only to a limited number of vehicles built from may to July 2016. Based on my own experience and that of other owners as reported online, I believe the issue is more widespread than the NHTSA apparently believes, and I suggest that the existing recall be expanded considerably.
Vehicle was in reverse. As soon as the gas was pressed the engine stalled out. We were pulling out from a parking spot when it happened. This is now the fourth instance in 4 weeks this has happened. Clearly Chrysler hasn't found all its vehicles produced with this problem simply because the VIN# says it should be fine.
First major problem is car starts when it feels like it, had to replace starter ($520) in the first week that I owned the vehicle after getting a jump several times I purchased I jump kit ($125)in case it wouldnt start and there were no other cars around then the jump kit wouldnt even work. So I had to have the car towed ($130) and the starter replaced. If I shut the car off and try to start it again 10 mins later it wont start but if you wait about an hour, it will start. This still happens after having the starter replaced so I have to keep the car running or risk being stranded for an hour or so. Second problem, about a month after buying the vehicle I was on the highway and was using the cruise control, was going down a hill and the rpms went all the way up into the red and high as it could then went down to zero and the engine completly stalled while on the highway. Since then I haven't used the cruise control. Thirdly, the passanger side has zero heat. The defroster, the heat vents on the dash and the heat vents at the feet all blow out cold air. Fourth problem, the horn would honk randomly, while driving or parked. 5th problem the key fob does what it wants when it wants. Came out of the mall and my alarm was going off (just the lights I had to remove the horn fuses because of the honking issue) and could not turn the alarm off or unlock the doors with the fob, had to use the actual key from inside the fob to get in the car and then start it, shut if off then I was able to shut off the alarm. 6th problem the car will randomly unlock when I'm not even holding the key fob and the front windows will roll down half way. This car has been nothing but issues since I bought it Dodge needs to have a recall for this vehicle there are so many safety issues! bought this car because I wanted a safe vehicle for my family and this car had been anything but!.
When we drive through the intersection of the city, the car's engine stalled twice suddenly and the steer wheel can not work. It is very dangerous and may cause traffic accident.
Today when we drive on the intersection of street in a city, the car's engine stalled twice and the steel wheel can not work. It is very dangerous and may cause traffic accident.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Dodge Journey. While driving 60 mph, the engine stalled. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to glenbrook Dodge Chrysler Jeep (100 w coliseum blvd, fort wayne, in 46805) where it was diagnosed that the crank sensor harness plugs needed to be replaced and the throttle body needed to be cleaned. The vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v907000 (engine). The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
I was driving 65 mph in a middle lane on the freeway when my engine suddenly stalled out. I lost the ability to steer or brake, and my vehicle quickly lost speed. I barely managed to get to the side of the freeway before it completely stopped. I called my husband to come get me, and he managed to restart it and drove it home while I followed in our truck. About 5 miles down the road, the engine stalled out on him. We took it to the Dodge dealership, and the mechanic who took it for a test drive freaked out when the problem happened to him with my husband in the passenger seat. However, they found nothing wrong with the vehicle and refuse replace any of the recalled parts from 2016 Dodge Journey's relating to the engine stalling out because they insist my car was manufactured a couples of weeks before the recall goes into effect. My concern is for my three toddlers who were sitting in the back seat and nearly got killed. I have called Dodge repeatedly about this, but they haven't fixed it yet or given me a reason why my one year old car is so dangerous.
While driving this vehicle, sometimes at highway speeds, the engine will stall. While all interior accessories stay energized, the engine does not attempt to restart. This has happened dozens of times and the vehicle has been to the dealership for this issue three different times. This issue did not start occurring until the touchscreen stopped working and the dash display started showing in german along with the vehicle not starting. I had it towed into the dealer where they had it for two weeks. They replaced the telematics gateway control module, several relays, and the battery. After this repair is when the above issue started happening. This is outright dangerous and has left my wife (her vehicle) stranded now three separate times. I understand the dealer is trying to recreated the issue when I take it to them, but they have not been able to get the vehicle to do it when they have it in their possession. I honestly believe that they are only driving the vehicle around the block and calling it good. This stalling has happened on city streets and at highway speeds. I just want my wife and child to be safe and I don't feel that is the case here. I will be looking to trade vehicle in if this issue cannot be figured out. I am also angry that I am paying on a piece of junk that spends more time in the shop than being driven.

The problem was the engine stalling while driving. Lost the ability to steer and brake. I had this problem happen to my 18yr old daughter on October 9th 2017. I called the dealer on October 10th where we purchased it to explain what was going on. They got it in that morning and drove it for about 30 miles and could not recreate the problem. They said the car did not give them any codes to tell them what the issue was so they could not do anything because they did not know what to replace. I am not sure if there is a relevance to the problem but a week before this happened my keyfob would not work at all. The car would say key not detected. I had to press the keyfob into the button to get the car started. Once I got home, which is 15 miles away, I noticed the tpm sensors were only reading 1 tire pressure. The others were reading "---". The keyfob battery's were replaced on both keyfobs to make sure that was not the issue but it didn't help. I disconnected the battery to reset the computer and the keyfobs started to work correctly. I drove the car a few miles and the tpm sensors started to read. Again I am not sure if this is related but thought I should point it out. This is a dangerous problem and could end up very bad with not being able to steer or brake because you loose all power. Here is a video of the problem happening. Https://drive. Google. When driving, both at low neighborhood speed and at highway speed, the engine stalls, lights and radio stay on, steering wheel locks and brakes lock. It has happened several times intermittently and unpredictably. I didn't become scared until it happened when I was on a highway going 60mph and almost wrecked trying to safely exit (date indicated below). The car is now in my driveway because I am afraid to drive it. A mechanic said it was related to a previously-issued safety recall but when I called a dealer to make an appointment for the recall repair, I was told that my vehicle was not included in the recall, despite the glaring similarity. I have not received a recall notice and, as stated, dealerships will not repair my vehicle for free.
Driving at low speed, during left hand turn vehicle engine stalled out and power steering ceased functioning. Power to radio, lights, etc. Remained functioning. Upon coming to stop in snowbank, placed vehicle in park, pressed ignition button and vehicle restarted.

2012 Dodge Journey crew // VIN: 3c4pdcdg6ct392260 // style / body: SUV 4d // engine: 3. 6l v6 mpi // country of assembly: mexico ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- safety issue: ¿the risk of an accident from the vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running¿¿ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- refer to attached 2012_djc-h90-honda_printout. Pdf - after the engine has been warmed after approximately 10-15 miles of driving, there is a valve that is potentially sticking [not disengaging] causing the vehicle to start off by itself when engine is running [while in gear]. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- multiple (15+) instances of the same event. Over the last approximate 6 - 10 months my Journey has had the following issue arise: drive from my home in seaside, CA en route to any destination in salinas, CA [traveled the same route each time] I will arrive at a red light at the intersection [36. 667084,-121. 684921] of blanco rd & davis rd where my Journey (stationary) rpm's will fluctuate dramatically and 99% of the time the engine will stall. At least 7-10 of these incidents have also resulted in the Journey engine bucking & lunging forward prior to stalling. The engine will immediate restart, however it will 95% of the time re-stall. In order to mitigate/prevent the engine from stalling/re-stalling the gear shift must either be placed in neutral or place into 1st gear and absolutely confirm your foot is firmly on the brake, in case it should lunge or buck forward. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- complaint evidence/supporting documentation has been attached.

The failure that occurred on Feb 12,2016. Put the life of my child and myself in eminent danger. While traveling 70 mph in the high speed lane, with moderate traffic on the highway, the car sudden shut off. The dashboard went black, the engine stalled and the car became almost impossible to drive. Not one indicator light on the inside or the outside of the vehicle worked, I reached for hazard lights that did not respond, the gas pedal was unresponsive. The steering was slow and hard to use- power steering was not available. Brakes seemed slow to respond. I know for certain had I collided with any item the airbags would absolutely without a doubt not deployed. The car had simply decided to "shut off", I put the car in neutral hoping to continue rolling forward down the highway with traffic. I was able to muscle the car to safety on the side of the road. I placed the car in park , and turned the ignition to the off position. After several minutes of calming myself and my daughter down I restarted the car. It started, however now every light that can illuminate on the dash, the wipers, day time running lights, radio, and door chimes in a 30-40 second repeating pattern. The dashboard indicates that the car is in park, reverse, neutral, and all forms of drive at the same time. The speedometer, rpm gauge, gas gauge , oil pressure and temperature gauge bounce from the minimum to the maximum during the cycle. The car has clearly had a extensive electrical failure- the "main computer" - as I dont know the exact component that has failed is no longer able to determine whats going on. Having this terrifying failure with my daughter in the car caused me to google the problem, im not the only owner this is a reoccurring situation for many owners. Im just so thankful to have walked away unharmed.
My 2010 Dodge Journey's engine stalls and I have no power steering or brakes while I am driving. This problem happened first in Nov. 2015 with around 68000 miles on vehicle and thought it was a fluke or caused by bad weather. It started to happen several times again March/April 2016. Dealership could not find the problem. Took it back in to dealership in June 2016, still could not find issue. Continued to happen and took it in in September for that and other issues (horn going off randomly and battery draining overnight). Now Dec 2016 and the car stalled while driving 3 times this week and the last time someone almost rear ended me because of it. My life and my children's life are at stake. It has only happened when I am going under 45mph at this point and on some occasions it is while I am slowing down to turn in a parking space but sometimes it is in the middle of the road driving. It has happened in the morning/afternoon/evening, rain, snow and sunshine, hot and cold days. It does not happen everyday which makes this issue even worse I never know when it will occur. The only issue that remains the same is that my traction system light comes on 90% of the time this occurs. I have told this to the dealership every time and they still cannot resolve the issue. I am extremely upset and have several complaints filed with Chrysler/Dodge headquarters.

Engine stalled while driving causing loss of power steering & power brakes. Diagnosis revealed that engine would stall if key was moved slightly. Could have caused a serious accident. Superstition springs Chrysler replaced the win module at a cost of $492. 46. How many people have to die or be injured before the manufacturer accepts responsibility, initiates a recall and takes care of the problem at no cost to the vehicle owner?? I believe that Chrysler corp should reimburse me for the cost of this repair.

I was slowing down and turning right into my driveway when the engine stalled. I was going 8 mph when I noticed I had no power steering and the rpms were at 0. My engine stalled for no reason. I have push button start/ignition, so this is not a case of a heavy keychain moving the ignition into auxiliary or off mode. . This is my wife's car and she drives my son and daughter everywhere. I am very worried this could happen in a dangerous situation or at higher speed! I'm not a mechanic, but I have noticed with the v6/auto 6 speed transmission, this car has very strange shifting programs / "curves". It seems to shift early and sometimes when slowing down, it's like the transmission doesn't downshift quickly enough. That may be the cause for what it's worth. Bottom line, I need to know it's not going to do this again with my family in the car!.

First incident was sometime in April 2014. While driving the engine stalled (turned off) three time daring that same day. I submitted an incident report to this office. Called Dodge corporate office and spoke to a representive named misty. She help us get the local dealership fix the pcm flash throttle body, which the dealship stated was causing the problem. Dodge has a recall on for this pcm problem on the 2010 and some 2009 Journey models. My VIN number was not covered according to Dodge, but not VIN numbers are stated on the recall notes. The secound incident happen around a week an half after the first one and after the dealship say it was fixed and safe to drive. My wife was driving with the kid on board and while exiting the freeway, the engine stalled (turned off) and had to use the emergency brake to avoid hit other cars. Called misty at corporate and took car back to dealership. Dealership now is saying the problem is the win module, which again is on the recall for the 2010 Journey, but not on the 2009. Asked dealship manager (jeff) if this would fix the problem. He stated he is not sure, but that is the next diagnostic step to take. I also aked how much it would cost to fix he stated $700 and they would not cover it, because my VIN number is not covered under the recall. Misty at corporated was trying to reduce price, but dealship is not willing to work with Dodge corporate. Misty authorized a rendal car, I'm having to pay for the insurance incase I have an accident. This needs to be investigated and all 2008, 2009, and 2010 need to be covered under the recall. All models are having the same problems.

Purchased vehicle in 2010, test drove vehicle asked dealer to check the following components engine, brakes, transmission. Dealer took car to a repair place stated everything was fine, went on with purchase. Had a oil change not long after purchase facility mentioned front and rear brakes, rotors and calipers were bad. . Which I had noticed pedal to brakes were not engaging properly, severe safety issue. Took to a second brake repair same problem. (s) on occasion engine stalls while driving, sometimes will not start at all. Some electrical components do not work in the vehicle. Then driving vehicle home from store transmission dies, car will not go over 20 miles, almost hit from behind by another vehicle due to sudden loss of speed luckily about two minutes from home. Parked vehicle for a few hours car would not go in park or reverse. Took vehicle to transmission repair, transmission tech examines transmission, transmission is defective and needs to be replaced. Called manufacturer Dodge/Chrysler stated there was nothing that they were willing to do, same statement they have said to many consumers, without concern for buyers safety or inconvenience that their vehicles cause. Please I need help this is the only vehicle that my family has, and I am concerned about all of our safety.
