Car Stall Problems of Dodge Journey - part 1

My car stalled on me while driving. The first time (2014) it happened I was making a turn on a city street. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it while under warranty. It just stalled while driving last week for a second time. I was waiting on a light on a city street. My car was completely dead I couldn't put the hazard lights on. I was in the middle of a school zone. I tried starting it and nothing. Two gentlemen had to push my car out of traffic. This is very unsafe, imagine had I been on the highway someone would of hit from me behind as I had no power at all. There was no way of warning the cars behind me as I had no power. I replaced the battery in 1/2021 and alternator in 3/2021. I have seen many complaints on the Dodge forum website I believe something has to be done for safety issues. Also my bluetooth system is not working that is also a safety issue. I did complain to Dodge and they couldn't do anything about it. I have seen a lot of complaints on the Dodge forum website. My Dodge Journey is currently at a shop under diagnostics. It makes it unsafe for me to want to drive it at this point.

Vehicle keeps stalling out while driving in motion. . . Lights that have been on since I purchased the car from auto liquidators abs light, engine light and another light I don't know how to explain. Sometimes it restarts sometimes it doesn�t.

My wife's car has stalled several times while running in traffic at 55 mph and above. She easily could have been involved in a collision. Car has been to dealer 4 times for repair, but still has same problem. Car has under 60k miles.

P0339 crank shaft position sensor intermitted my engine completely lost power. This is very dangerous. This is a recall on this crank shaft on 2012-2016 models for Dodge Journey. I was driving on a residential street going 35 mph and my car stalled and the engine lost complete power.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving and an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was diagnosed by the contact's son, an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. Vehicle keeps randomly stalling while driving. Vehicle will shut off and I have to turn the ignition off completely then let it sit to restart. Sometimes I have to put vehicle in neutral to get it to start. Had battery, fuel, spark plugs, alternator checked and they are working fine. Random lights keep flickering on the dash. This must be an electrical issue. Please issue a recall!!!! several other owners with the same make and model have complained about the exact same issue.

The contact waited for a few minutes and the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was purchased however, the dealer stated that the vehicle was not under warranty and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the crankshaft was defective and needed to be replaced. Fresno Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (6162 n blackstone Ave, fresno, CA 93710) was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Follow-up to #11289608 on 12/17/2019; the dealer performed a service bulletin #18-078-17 & pcm update, #181906sz as recommended by star technician. States vehicle functioning as designed. Two different dealerships have been unable to duplicate issues. Vehicle ran great 12/19 until may18, 2020. On 2-hr trip, vehicle stalled 4 times-no warning. In drive-thru line waiting, engine cut off - car wouldn't start. Towed to local dealership, rocky top cdjr in kodak, TN - diagnostics code po171 for sensor - not covered, my dime for $273. Drove home - no issues. On 5/21/2020, car started right up after filling up, then died - not vacuum issue. Tow truck driver put car in neutral manually to tow to dealership. Service advisor told of issues. On 5/25/2020, service advisor called-technician found the fuel pump losing pressure. Fuel pump module and fuel pressure module replaced under goodwill. Ran perfectly, no issue. On 6/11/2020, started up then died. Transmission temperature gauge hot, but no actual temperature shown. A reminder that plagued intermittently in 2019 and posted in first complaint to nhtsb and fca. Car towed once again to rocky top cdjr in kodak, TN - technician says fuel pump no longer working. Two weeks old and now not working. Part is back ordered till end of month?! now, have rental on my dime. Today, 6/16/2020, spoke to fifth (5th) reported fca case manager on continuing problems. No longer trust vehicle and deeply concerned for my safety because vehicle has yet to be fixed. Have found other NHTSA complaints disturbingly similar from 2018, 2019 and 2020: #11113660 (CA), next 3 are GA, same car #11243797, #11244334, #11245530 and #11317210 (FL). Always asked if the vehicle is fixed. . . I do not know until it's no longer giving me problems. My vehicle is still not fixed. . . There is something internally wrong with this model!!!.

The car stalled while I was driving down the highway and would not run. The crankshaft sensor was found to be the cause of issue upon diagnosis. Dodge has a recall under campaign s49 but my declined to fix my vehicle under the recall since it was beyond the manufacturing date range.

My 2017 Journey was manufactured in August of 2016 Dodge has a recall for Journeys for crankshaft position sensors for Journeys that were made from may of 2016 to July 2016 my car has been stalling out since 40,000 miles and the problem is getting worse upon research this may be the crankshaft position sensor and there have been multiple complants online stating others cars have had issues with this sensor but Dodge only did a limited recall on these vehicles. My car jerks 3-4 times when in reverse then stalls out or it jerks 3-4 times and stalls at stop lights or signs. Other online complaints ive seen state that people have had issues with it also stopping mid driving at high speeds.

Horn blew intermittently at first when shutting doors, and occasionally for no reason. Windows would go down part way when doors were shut. Ignition would sometimes just click click when key is turned, wipers would move when not engaged to be on. Battery would go complexly dead for no reason and then be ok for a month or two and then do it again. Had to disconnect the horn a few years ago as it would not stop going off. Has been in to kayer Chrysler, Dodge service several times and they could not find issue. They just called and said they founsd. Short in the main electrical component and it will cost $1100plus for part and up to $200 to install. We have had these issues since we bought it. Oh yeh heat and air on passenger side quit working a few winters ago, and the doors fill with water in every rain storm. Park on a hill after a rain and doors will drain for hours. We have friends that have bought Journeys and say they have no problems really. Can't believe there s not a recall for such a mess. Oh yes and occasionally it will not shift all gears and I need to pull ver on highway, turn off ignition and restart and it usually works. Wish I weren't retired on limited income, I would get rid of it before I get killed. Iyt only has 1000,000 miles. Hopefully it matures soon,1.

My Journey keeps stalling on me especially when stopped (red lights,stop signs, in traffic etc. ) at one point it even stalled out on me while driving and I couldn't move the steering wheel, brakes, nothing! it completely locked up. I was lucky that that time I was in my neighborhood otherwise I would have gotten in a car accident. At first the fuel cap light kept coming on, Dodge dealer told us to just have the cap replaced (we did) but the light keeps coming on and off still and not resolving any problems. Then a red lightening bolt came on a couple times and that's when my car would shut off at a stop and try restarting on its own. Now at the moment no lights are on and it's still stalling. And every time is stalls it's always in drive and will completely turn off. It has stalled in parked a few times also but majority of the time is when stopped in drive. This is very very dangerous. I have 3 kids who are always with me. I can't imagine if something happened because of this. I've done my research and noticed there are many many people having the same exact issue. Dodge needs to recall the vehicle quickly before they run into a lawsuit.

This is a follow-up to 11244334 and 11243797. For background, the 2017 Journey began stalling intermittently and not throwing a code (starting at about 23,500 miles). The stalling occurred during all driving conditions and speeds. The dealership could not reproduce the event and told me to drive until it throws a code. After 6,000 miles and hundreds of stalls the vehicle finally threw a code, (29,500 miles, p0335 crankshaft position sensor). The sensor replaced, connector did not fit sensor well so it was replaced (subject of complaint 11244334). Thought it was fixed, and three days later, it stalled again on the highway. Only this time the traction light came on and brakes did not work intermittently. Back at the dealership, the technician in his frustration and opened the wiring harness. What he found about 8 inches from the connector was "crank shaft position wires cut and twisted together. . . " the service advisor asked who else was in there. I bought the vehicle new at the dealership and they have done all work and maintenance meaning this issue was in production.

This vehicle has had a re-occurring engine light for code for the past year and a half. The code is p0441. Not only has this code been a nuisance it is also causing the vehicle to stall. I believe the emission system is purging the fuel vapors at the wrong time. We have taken the vehicle to two separate dealers for service for a total of 7 separate visits. The engine light continues to come back on and once that happens the vehicle will stall randomly at slower speeds. One stall was specifically turning a corner at slow speeds. Another stall occurred in parking lot maneuvers. I have googled this vehicle with this code and it is a very common problem.

This is a continuation of 11243797. For background, the 2017 doge Journey has been stalling intermittently starting at 23,000 miles most of the time not throwing a code. The dealership couldn't recreate the problem and without a code could not fix without a code. We endured 7,000 miles and 100's of stalls (stop and go traffic, highway, left turns in front of on-coming traffic) before a code was thrown indicating crankshaft position sensor. Upon inspection the dealer technician noted that the connector to the sensor did not fit the sensor.

The 2017 Dodge Journey stalls intermittently at all speeds and driving conditions. Stop and go in traffic, accelerating on the highway, coasting up a hill, starting from a stop in an intersection. Usually no codes are thrown. Recently the p0335 code was thrown, crankshaft speed sensor was replaced. Did not fix the problem. The 2016 Journey's were recalled for the same issue. Are the 2017's not worthy of a recall or does someone have to die first?.

2017 Dodge Journey sxt is stalling out at various speeds causing extreme safety hazard to those on board and other motorists. This is an ongoing issue that has been addressed at least 6 - 7 times now only to continue. Dodge knows something but has refused to come forward with a recall.

For two years battery has been unable to hold charge, even when replaced new, engine riding rough to complete stop in road, no flashers etc. Alternator replaced complete electric harness burnt, all fixed still will not hold battery charge. No car for two months. Car stalled in road.

While driving my Journey will stall and I lose power steering and brakes with no warning. It also randomly happens when stopping. This has happened while sitting in traffic at a red light and when it turns green my car doesn't move. Had to put it in park and restarted with no issues. This happened when stopping at a stop sign. Had to put it in park and restart. This happened when slowing down to turn left. Lost all power steering and brakes. Almost had a head on collision and rear ended with 2 children in the car. After I got the car to stop I had to put it in park and start. Every time this issue happens I have to put it in park and it starts right back up. I have taken to the dealership twice, same issues and they say nothing is wrong because they are not getting an error code.

Mil illuminates indicating cam shaft position senor and multiple other codes at start up or highway speeds. This also cuts off the stability control and puts the car in ,imp mode. The car will also stall without warning at highway speeds creating an unsafe condition. Dealership currently evaluating issue for cam shaft phaser failure. This occurs at least once a week however the most recent incidence on 6/14/2019 resulted in the car stalling while turning resulting in loss of power steering and braking. The code always resets after a driving cycle is completed but comes back in a day or so. It is my understanding that early 3. 6 l engines for 2011 had an issue with cam shaft phaser but no recall has been issued for my vehicle.

For the past week, while taking my children to school, on a residential street, the car stalls. I will be on the road and go to slow down because I am coming up on a car at the stop sign and the car stalls out. I have to put it in park, turn it off, and then turn it back on again. Again, this happens every day.

The stalling failure occurred once. The contact stated that the vehicle was then taken to hayes Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of gainsville (3115 frontage rd, gainesville, FL 30504 (770) 766-4758) where it was awiting diagnoses and repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and provided case number: 64885981. The failure mileage was approximately 47,800.

Transfer case is going out, and vehicle will stall and not start again for a while. Vehicle would not even backup, had to call a toll truck.

The dealer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that there may have been a failure with the fuel pump sending unit. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

Misfire, loss of power, and stalling while in motion and while idling . Had vehicle inspected. Cylinder #2 has a misfire and the cylinder head needs replaced. I was informed that my year make and model was involved in an extended warrantly from Chrysler to cover all vehicles fitted with the 3. 6 liter motor for this exact same issue. However my particular VIN isn't showing that it is covered even though I have the exact same motor, year make and model, and issues as the others. This is not fair that I am experience these issues but they refuse to fix it because my VIN isn't on the list!!! this is very expensive to fix and is dangerous. I was driving on the highway and completely lost power, I was almost hit by another vehicle while I was trying to find a place to get off the road. This has happened on several occasions. The vehicle will stall when I am pulling out , which has left me stalling in the middle of the road on more than one occasion. This is my primary vehicle and I have no choice but to continue to drive it. This is a defect that has been recognized by Chrysler group and yet they refuse to fix my vehicle. The extended warranty was to cover the pentastar v6 3. 6 liter six-cylinder to 10 years or 150,000 miles which ever comes first.
