Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Dodge Journey - part 1

I was driving down the street and loss all power and brake control. No warning lights and no notice just shut off while driving, radio and lights everything cut off without warning.

Driving the car on the highway, it started to slow down; the vehicle stopped and did not move. My children and I scared but thank god help came. The lights on the car turned on, indicating something was wrong. I couldn't read the sign or understand what went wrong. The car will not stay on. It shut off, and the code indicated the cylinder is not working. I reported it and towed the Dodge dealership vehicle because the representative said it would be covered because it's a recall. My car is still at the dealership. More than two months and no one can tell me why the car won't work.

In the past 3 years, we have had to fix different cylinder misfires in the same engine. The first was done in 2017, the second July 2020, and we had the third misfire error code November 2020. This has been communicated to Dodge, but not sure if a recall should be made for this, or if other have experienced the same. The most recent incident happened while driving. The engine began to stutter, thankfully I was able to make it home where as soon as I drove into the driveway it shut down.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while stopped, the vehicle shut off without warning. On another occasion, the contact left the vehicle running as she went into a restaurant; upon returning to the vehicle, the vehicle started vibrating. The contact proceeded to drive, the vehicle stalled upon depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the vehicle shutoff again without warning. On another occasion, the vehicle shutoff in the middle of an intersection without warning. The contact and another driver pushed the vehicle out of the intersection. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the crankshaft sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. Chris nikel Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram fiat (2920 n aspen Ave, broken arrow, ok 74012) was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that there were two recalls on the vehicle which were however, not related to the failure experienced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 164,000.

The car shut off anywhere and all the time has almost been killed because of this issue.

Stalling in traffic while driving, very dangerous with my family in car. When you crank up the car and start driving it just shuts off no matter how fast or slow you're going. Scared to death, just had to park it until we find out what's going on. We read about a number of complaints very similar to what we're going through. Please help!!.

On 06/05 car would not start at big lots store thought battery had died and started immediately after getting jumped which happens often if leaving a light on or door slightly ajar so went to walmart next and left car running to make sure would not need to get jumped afterwards and when I came out of store car was no longer running. A walmart associate came out to jump car for me and after car started it went dead again after a few seconds of started. I went inside and bought a battery in case I needed a new battery however it turned out to not be the case after being at walmart for 3 hours trying to get car to stay on long enough to get out of parking lot I was able to get it home for it to shut off again. I tested it out the following day and only made it to the end if the block and it shut off on me again. I stayed at the end of the street for an hour until my husband was able to get it going long enough to get it back home and has remained there until I get this issue solved. My husband has learned online that lots of other people with the same vehicle have this same issue with this vehicle where one day they can drive around fine and the next the vehicle shuts off as if the battery is dead.

Driving down the road my car shut off on its own. I had to put the car in neutral to get it started again. This is not the first time it happens frequently. I found out that a recall on the ignition switch module had been repaired but it is still hepening so I feel the recall needs to be reopened. If it goes unfixed I fear it will cause a serious accident.

My wife was driving the car and it shut off while driving. The engine and electric system shut off and she could not use the brakes. She had to coast to a parking lot and then it started up again. We have taken it into a mechanic and there is no information on the computer regarding what happened. He cannot diagnose the problem.

This time I was on a city street having just exited off of the interstate. I was in traffic and again the car just lost power due to the engine shutting down. Again it would not start and could not be jump started so had it towed to the dealer. Dealer was able to get a code p061c, and followed instructions to update the pcm. From what I understand, a software update was applied to the power control module. I am very concerned with the fact that my car can just shut down the engine with no warning at all. Very dangerous.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving the entire board flashed and then vehicle engine shut off and the vehicle stopped. The contact had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic and he diagnosed the rod and the engine needed to be replaced and the cost would be about $7,700. The vehicle had been serviced by the dealer ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of bowie 2406 crain hwy, bowie, MD 20716 (855) 822-3228. They had work done to the interior by an outside contractor, they then did an oil change. Changed the antifreeze, replaced washer wipers, visor and replaced the console. The dealer told the contact not to stop on the way home because they had to jumpstart the vehicle. The contact refused to take the vehicle. The dealer then replaced the battery. The dealer said a multiple point vehicle inspection by the contact. The contact did not get her vehicle back until the end of November 2019, the vehicle issue of stopping occured in 12/2019. Tl the contact owns a 2016 Dodge Journey. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle unintentionally shut off without warning. The vehicle was able to restart and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to frisco Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (9640 TX-121, frisco, TX 75035, (214) 390-7543) where the contact was informed that the crank shaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing and email them the information. The failure mileage was 69,000.

Engine cuts off while going down the road without warning. The problem is the crankshaft position sensor. Very dangerous nearly killed my wife and I when a 18 wheeler barely missed us. We were on a major interstate doing 70mph when it just shut off. There are active recalls for this problem. Chrysler is aware of the problem but will only talk to people whose vehicle is listed under their recall list. The problem is a lot more widespread. Recall number is s-89.

Engine shut off on freeway and overheated.

The engine just shut off while driving. . No warning, no lights just off. Loss power steering, lights, all power. Luckily was able to glide over to side of road and was able to put car in park and hit engine on button and it started up as normal.

I was driving mid day, 35 mph on major city street and the engine shut off without any warning. As I was in right hand lane I was able to force the car to the curb even though the power steering had shut down. With the car stopped I could see there were no warning lights on and the it was still in "drive". After my nerves calmed I was able to start the car and drive on. This was a rental car that I had driven for 1,700 miles during the past 10 days with out a problem. However an hour before I had been on a major interstate highway in a driving rainstorm. Had it shut down without warning there I am sure the accident would of shut that interstate for hours.

Engine stalls while driving causing vehicle to shut off with no warning. It has to coast to a stop as power steering and brakes go out once shut off. This is very dangerous and could cause a fatal accident. I have taken the vehicle to the shop and nothing could be found wrong with it. This is very frustrating and potentially fatal.

I was driving my 2012 Dodge Journey and my car power just shut down and it won't start. The brake pedal was hard and stiff. My car is completely disabled had to get it tow to my house. I tried to start the car it's not starting at all no peer no lights nothing completely dead.

The recall was performed on the left cylinder head, however, they mechanic informed him that there was a wire shortage from the pcm to the map sensor. The contact was given an estimate for the repair to the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that wiring was not under warranty and offered no assistance. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.

Car shuts off while driving at any speed. It shits off while parked or stopped at a stoplight. The car will not turn back on. Sometimes it take about 30 minutes and it will restart but will only run for about 5-10 minutes. When trying to start the car, we press the brake and then the start button and the car violently jerks as it tries to start, but will not turn over. It has happened since we bought the car March 2019 but the dealership wont take the car back or trade it for something else.

This starting happing the first day I got the ride witch was 6/28/2019 I took it back to the dealer with was tim short of south williamson ky they gave me a rental the motor blow up in it on 7/28 /2019 then I they come and took that rental and gave me another one then after about two months I got my Dodge Journey back and now the transmation is going out again and it's just shuting down as you drive it,.

The car was in motion on a city street the first time the engine just turned off then we where on the highway with big rigs behind and on sides when engine just suddenly shut off it was my husband driving the first time andwe had our kids in the back and a friend also it was a very frightening experience I told my huband dont panic push the starter button to turn off the car because u couldn't give it gas because engine was off but car still on in gear then thankfully the first time we it was not busy at the time we my husband pushed the start button and car was in off mode and then waited a few minutes before turning car back on by pressing the starter button and then we proceeded to enter the highway and about two miles down you feel a pull and the engine turned off again at speed from 75 to quick decrease in speed he veered off to the shoulder with cars and big rigs around us to the shoulder and pushed the ignition button to the off position and waited a few mins prayed and the car started after pushing the ignition button took it to the dealer the next day as that was night and it took a day for the dealership to say the car was fine it might be. . Exact words the engine crank shaft but it was working fine for the techs so it was at my choice to have it changed or not. It seemed to be working fine. The engine light that had turned on after the engine shut off was off so I decided it was just a glitch and car was ok. Here I am 2 weeks later and the car keeps doing the same thibg on the highway and street it is aweful, I have a all power train warrantee and the dealership says the engine crankshaft is not a part covered by warrantee please help others not get seriously injured or even die from a crash due to this not to detectable defect.

I was driving my car through town(35mph) when it just shut off. I didn't have power steering or brakes. No alert lights come on. I managed to pull into a gas station, put it in park then it restarted after I pushed the button. I did chat with Chrysler and they said no recalls or issues showed up for my car. After googling my experience, I found numerous other complaints from people having the same problem. If I had been going faster on the highway or even on our curvy backroads I could have been seriously injured or even killed! I drive my children in this car and I'm scared to death to get back in it. I'm still paying on nb this car and it's a deathtrap!.

Car shuts off in the middle of driving. Power steering and breaks go out. Very dangerous, without any warning the car just turns off. It has happened at all different speeds, while turning, while going up hill, while going down hill. Seems to be the ignition. There is a recall for this but it for some reason does not apply to my VIN and I cant understand why. I need to have this fixed immediately, why is my car not on this recall?.

The vehicle completely shut down while driving down Ford road in dearborn mi. The steering would not move. The engine turned off. The brakes locked up. The car would not start to move out of oncoming traffic. It was towed to firstone complete autocare and serviced. Received the vehicle back on Saturday the 4th of August. Again drove the vehicle and on a bridge on ecorse rd in taylor mi. The vehicle did the exact thing. It was towed back to firestone. Firestone returned the vehicle on August 6th and sent it to dealership for repair. Firestone said they saw no problem. Couldn't understand the problem. Both instances of stalling I had my 7 year old. Both instances we were nearly rear ended multiple times. Both times the vehicle shuts down with no steering, no breaks, and wont restart. It was a death trap. Firstone can verify my pick up locations both times. Used goch and sons towing through firestone on 8/5. Used united towing in dearborn on 8/3. Firestone also has vehicle records on file.

Last week I was driving my car and it felt like it was going to stall at a stop sign. Then the engine light came on when I started driving again. While driving on a busy highway my car just shut off. No brakes, or steering. I had 3 kids in the car 2 being toddlers. I was able to put it into park and start it again to get it off the road. This is the first time this happened to me and now I am scared to drive it. As for electrical my car randomly sometimes just changes radio stations, u connect doesn't work. When disconnecting the battery it works for about a month and you can not use it anymore.

After buying the car from the dealer we drove home and stopped to get gas. The car would not start. Finally after locking and unlocking the doors it started. Since then every day I drive it I continually have issues with it starting. Once while driving down the road it shut off and stopped. Almost caused an accident. Now I can not even get it started. I have a baby and rhought this would be a perfect vechile. I can nit trust it for the safety of my child and myself. I can not be stranded in the arkansas heat with a vechile that repeatedly has issues with starting or keep running while driving. I have had it checked and no one xan find an issue with the car. Very concerned with safety of car. Very disappointed.

My car is at 71000 miles it will not switch into gears meaning I have to pull over turn car off and back on in hope that it will switch gears. Many times that doesn't work. My brake caliber has been replaced and it still is messed up again. Yesterday I was riding down road and car just powered off on me for no reason. I could not start it back up after hour it restarted. We checked engine fluid etc everything was good. I waited until end of my shift went and got car to take home. As I began traveling home a power lighting bolt came on in my dash. Car shut off again would not start unfortunately I was unable to bare off the road because everything locked up in car. I wish I never purchased this car.

Sometimes while driving, my vehicle just shuts off for no reason. It shuts off while the vehicle is in motion. Also sometimes when I turn the heater off the vehicle shuts off. It has happened once while in motion and once while stationary.

Vehicle was in motion and suddenly just shuts off without power to any of the hazard lights. It can get a lot of people killed with such a safety glitch. Does it, then turns back on maybe after 10 to 40 mins of being off.
