Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Dodge Journey - part 2

I own a 2014 Dodge Journey with about 51k miles on it. Since yesterday, this vehicle has been shutting off and stalling while I am driving. The radio will flicker on and off and the instrument cluster will show all warning lights in a flashing manner, after a few seconds of that, the car will completely turn off while still in drive. On October 3rd, I was making a right turn, and the vehicle shut off mid turn. The brakes became stiff, lost the ability to steer the wheel and also lost functionality to my hazards. This morning, I was driving this same vehicle to my local Dodge/Chrysler dealership and the car once again shut off on me. This time I was in the process of taking off from a red light when the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection. Again, I lost the ability to even use my hazards. I am going to have it towed to my local dealership within the next few hours.

While driving with our two children in the vehicle the engine shut off and the power steering and power brakes did not work, there was no control over the vehicle. Luckily it was a city side road and we were able to coast to a stop without hitting anything or getting rear ended. Nothing would work on the vehicle. After about 10 seconds the engine started back up without having the brake pressed or pressing the start button. My wife drove the vehicle back to our house which was about six blocks away.

On several occasions, my Journey has just shut down while in motion. This has happened to me and my husband. Lights go off, engine will not start, cannot push the brake to initialize startup. Online I have found many others with the same problem. Some believe that it is related to the key fab. The electronics key is not being recognized and shutting down the car. I took it to Dodge dealer and of course they could not duplicate problem or get a code. However, the danger of this is unacceptable!! I have two boys under the age of four! will a death have to occur to investigate this!?.

While driving with my 2 young children my car shut off out of no where. I was driving down a busy street in a large city and went to turn right into a parking lot, as soon as I pulled into the lot the car shut off, the steering wheel and break locked and I couldn't do anything to make the car start. After about a minute of francially pushing the 'push to start' button the car turned back on. Thankfully we were in the parking lot at this point becuase if we were still on the street we wouldn't have been in a major accident.

When driving will hit any kind of bump & engine shuts off. . This started out happening occassionally, now happens nearly every time you drive it. Also when restart it revs like holding foot down on accelerator even though foot not touching accelerator.

Vehicle shuts off while driving it. Car starts back up and running fines. It has shut off going through and intersection. Lucky no traffic was coming from any direction. Car will start back up every time. Have seen lots of complaints about this vehicle and issue.

While driving on busy intersection vehicle just shut off on its own. Steering wheel locked therefore I had no control. Almost crashed into another vehicle and median. Had to wait for it to come to a complete stop on the middle of intersection to be able to restart it.

Engine shut off on 7/7/2017 appox 2:40 pst the vehicle was stopped at a stop light on a busy surface street when the light turned green I pressed the gas to move through the light and there was no power coming from the engine. I was able to pull over, put the car in park and turn the engine off. I push button started the engine and the car operated as normal. On 7/8/2017 approx 1:30 pst I was completing a left hand turn when the vehicle stalled with no power coming from the engine. I put my flashers on, put the car in park, turned off the engine. Within seconds I push button started the vehicle and it started up normally.

June 2017: ignition failure, total component replacement; July 2017, September 2017; July 2018: camshaft position sensor failure resulting in engine stall, full electrical system failure and total vehicle shutdown at highway speeds (60+mph) forced to coast vehicle to a stop; beginning July 2017 intermittent and ongoing: unresponsive transmission resulting in delayed or not changing of gears, elevated rpm readings while mph stays stuck (I. E. 4500+ rpms but vehicle will not accelerate past 40mph), extremely deceased average miles per gallon with no significant change to driving habits or miles driven (I. E. Previous average appox 19. 9 mpg, current read 13. 2 with); vehicle out of service 55 days for repairs in the last calendar year.

I was driving my car out of a drive through and when I got to where I needed to turn, my engine just shut off. Car started rolling electrical was still on (lights, etc;) but the steering wheel would not turn at all. I had to put it in park, turn it off and then turn it back on again. After that, it worked again. What if this happens to me going 80 on the interstate? I have children to think about.

My vehicle randomly shuts off. Loses all engine power, power steering, etc. Has been at the dealer 3 different times and no one can find the problem. Once we were stopped at a light, 2 times we were pulling out of parking spots, and this last time my vehicle was in motion on the street and the engine shut off.

While driving my brand new Dodge Journey just purchased almost 2 months ago, the engine stalls out suddenly while driving. This has happened 3 times now, with the last time being on a major highway almost causing a major accident. The engine shuts off, steering wheel and brakes lock and car just coasts to a stop. After a minute the car can be restarted. No lights come on to signify a problem during this time, it just stalls out completely causing a major potential for an accident. Brought to the dealership who says they can find nothing wrong with the car. I have 3 children and this happened with 1 in the car, putting us in serious danger.

I had 2016 Dodge Journey bought from superstition Dodge in mesa arizona. The engine shuts off by itself while braking and one time while driving. When engine shuts off the car looses power steering and brakes. This could cause fetal accident and may be death. I contacted Dodge tempe arizona. I went to them after it happen first time and they said no error code and it could be a glitch!! then when it happen for second and third time and I was about to make an accident, I contacted them again and contacted Dodge company. They open a case # 29588743. And tempe Dodge took again for over a week and they were not able to find the root cause. They want to give me the car back and I am afraid about my family safety and people and cars in the street. I contacted Dodge again and the case manager name is venessa x40752. She said there nothing she can do and she wants to close the case. They do not care and they want to give the car back to me knowingly that the car could have an accident again if the engine shuts off and the car fail to brake and steer. What happen is when driving, sometimes "3 times" when brake "2 times" or when slowing while running "1 time" the engine shuts off and the ignition button still shows run and ac is still working on the battery. When engine shuts off no brakes so car keeps moving and steering is very hard to control because of loss of power. It is life threating and could cause death to pedestrians and or passengers. Please help, I do not want my family to get injured or die and I do not want people in the street to get injured or die.

My 2010 Dodge Journey sxt shut down on me 5 time on the highway. At diffent time I took it to the Dodge dealer in wilmington nc but they said that nothing is wrong with if nothing wrong with it why did it shut down on me.

It has been about a month since my 2011 Dodge Journey had begun to shut off without warning while I was driving, and with nyc traffic in the city it became dangerous for me to drive. I took it to my own mechanic who said it could only be resolved by the dealership since it may be an electrical issue with the car's computer that only the service shop at the dealership has the tools to fix. I am not driving faster than 30 mph when it happens, I'm unable to brake and the car shuts off automatically. I have begun to use the emergency brake, but if there is a car that is too close, in front or behind me, I can get into an accident. Thankfully, I have always been by the shoulder on the highway and am able to pull over.

Driving typically less than 25 mph and car shuts down. Which makes me have to brake, place car in neutral and start again then switch to drive. I took car to dealership and because it didn't show on the electrical tester they said nothing was wrong. But the vehicle continues shutting off while I am driving with my children in the car.

I was driving my kids to school when the engine just shut off. The power steering did not work and then the car just started back up on its own. It has happened 3 times since then. I bought a new battery and had a new alternator installed but it did not fix the problem.

I backed out of a parking spot and started to drive and the car shut off.

Purchased vehicle Dec 2012, may 2013 horn on vehicle goes off in middle of night, turn car on and then off and horn stops. May 2013 driving down road and horn starts going off. Take car to stanely dealership may 29 2014 and they can not find anything wrong with horn. Horn continues to go off, take fuse out of fuse box. July 2014 battery was dead, replaced battery July 2014. 2-3 wks later battery was dead again. Took to dealership in gatesville TX and they stated the could not find why battery was drained. Took battery back to vendor and was replaced. 2 months later battery dead again, took car to dealership and they recharged battery free of charge. Dec 12 2014 driving car at 6:20 am 1 block from house car turns off going 30 miles per hour. Had to come to complete stop put in park and car restarted. Dec 16 2014 battery is dead, go and buy new battery at walmart. Dec 20 2014 daughter borrows car and claims the car shut off on her on the hwy in town going 40 miles per hour. Jan 20 2014 afternoon after pick up son from school, driving 30 miles per hour and car shuts off while driving. Take car into dealership Jan 24 2014, mechanic claims Monday morning car battery is dead. Told mechanic everything going wrong with vehicle, they can not find why the battery is draining also stated the horn switch needs to be replaced. They reboot tipm and the wcm. Pick up car 1/27/2015 take battery back to wal-mart 1/28/2015 and replace and install. Feb 9 2015 pull out of drive way and get about 100 feet and car shuts off, restart and proceed. That afternoon car shuts off on the way home from work while driving 15-20 miles per hour on street. Return car to dealership they still can't find what is wrong with vehicle battery dead, they recharge battery. Feb 23 2015 battery dead. Taking to a different mechanic Feb 28th.

I have had my car right at 3 months and it just shuts off with no warning. I have children in this car going down the interstate and it just shuts off. There is no warning signs and no way to get it off the side of the road. I'm just dead in the water hoping no one will rear end us. It has been in the shop 2 times and they have it a day and say shows nothing and send it back to me. It is very hard to get it into the shop and they act like I'm the problem cause they can't find it. It's my only car and I keep telling them what is going on and they say juat keep driving it. It takes several min for it to finally start then it seems to clear out the codes. I have called them and expressed my concerns about the safety of my kids and my self. They seem to not be worried. But I have seen I'm not the only one with this problem and nothing is being done. I guess when it kills my family or someone else thenaybe something will be done. This happens at least 3 xs a week if not more and I have no clue when it will happen. It's very scary. Please can u help me before my family ends up killed.

While driving down the road at highway speed. The vehicle shut off. First time thought it was a fluke. But has since gotten progressively worse. To the point where it getting to be unpredictable and unsafe to all in the vehicle or on the road. Seen other styles of this same vehicle have recalls for same type of issues. Called Chrysler corp for variation. Found out my vehicle was made in time frame of others in that period. But is not included. Believe this needs to be looked into more. Before something terrible happens to my family or I.

While pulling the car into my driveway the car just shut down/died. I had no control of the steering. Extremely frightening and thankfully this did not occur while at an intersection or on the highway.

While driving my car lost all electrical power and engine shut down. I quickly put the car in park and restarted. When I contacted the service department they had me bring the car in but were unable to duplicate the problem. They kept the car for over a week and no one was able to have this happen. There is also a secondary issue. When you initially go to start the car it will not start the first time. It will however start the second time. Again the service department was unable to duplicate the problem. However that same afternoon I had stopped at the store and when I went to start the car it did not start the first time.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. Whenever the contact drove the vehicle the engine shut off. The failure occurred at various speeds. She called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The current mileage was 55,938. The failure mileage was approximately 2,500.
