Failure Date: 02/26/2020

This is the second time within three months this has happened. First time I was driving at 30 mph and was able to safely pull over. Second time. Driving and all the sudden lose power steering. A hose under car keeps bursting at the pinch clamp and losing all power steering fluid. This has happened twice this winter. Last night at start up with below freezing temps. Car started heard a noise like I ran over something ( car was in park) and lost all power steering fluid.

3 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2014 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

My vehicle has shut off without warning three times in the last month. All three times were at low speeds while pulling into a driveway. I then put it in park, pressed my ignition button to off, then pushed the ignition button with my foot on the brake and it started all three times on the first attempt. When it shut off, I lost power steering all three times, so thankfully I was at low speed. I do currently have code p0016 when I scan it with my reader. I had a local mechanic change 1 of my camshaft position sensors because that is what autozone recommended. That didn't solve anything. Then I made an appointment at Dodge of bloomington, mn to have a lugnut repaired and my check engine light further diagnosed. They replaced the lugnut but told me they didn't have time left in the day to look at light, and said no rental vehicles were available, which is odd considering the 500 vehicles in their lot. So I made an appointment at coon rapids Chrysler and they dug around for three hours, told me they couldn't find anything but charged me $500. Again no rentals here either. How far do we dig, I have 297,000 miles but other than this recent issue, vehicle has been good. Happy to include anything extra you would like. I did have coon rapids Chrysler replace a camshaft in spring of 2019 when engine was ticking. That solved the ticking. I did notice my tick is back to about 75% of the sound it was in the spring after my November 29th attempted diagnosis at coon rapids. Typing on my phone, so I apologize for a few missed capitalizations. First shutoff was November 15th, recent one was December 15th and then one in between.

4 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2016 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

While driving my Journey will stall and I lose power steering and brakes with no warning. It also randomly happens when stopping. This has happened while sitting in traffic at a red light and when it turns green my car doesn't move. Had to put it in park and restarted with no issues. This happened when stopping at a stop sign. Had to put it in park and restart. This happened when slowing down to turn left. Lost all power steering and brakes. Almost had a head on collision and rear ended with 2 children in the car. After I got the car to stop I had to put it in park and start. Every time this issue happens I have to put it in park and it starts right back up. I have taken to the dealership twice, same issues and they say nothing is wrong because they are not getting an error code.

5 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2010 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

I started my 2010 Dodge Journey and was driving down the interstate. I began to go around a sharp curve and realized I had lost all power steering. This almost resulted in a crash into another vehicle and then almost a barricade. Thankfully I was able to somewhat gain control of the vehicle. My wife and 10 month old baby were also in the vehicle. I later learned that the power steering return line had ruptured. I would consider this a isolated incident and not a vehicle problem if there wasn't already a recall for other Dodge Journeys with the exact same problem.

6 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

Power steering return line ruptured on a -20f morning. The vehicle was in motion and I lost power steering. I didn't notice until I went to take a corner. I was able to make the corner but came close to hitting a snow bank. The speed was low so I had time to react. After that I brought it to my local Dodge dealer and it was repaired. The total bill was 383. 17. It's funny there is a recall on this issue with this year and model yet mine isn't recalled. The recall explains what happens and that is exactly what happend to my Journey.

9 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

For the 2nd time since I purchased this car 2 years ago, I have lost power steering and had to pay to replace it. This car has been a lemon since I purchased it. First the head gasket blew, then I had to replace the radiator, then the ignition switch, now power steering twice. This car is nothing but a money pit. I tell everyone I know to stay away from Dodge.

10 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 12/15/2017

Power steering return line blew during start of vehicle causing me to lose power steering control.

11 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2011 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

I was driving on the freeway to work and the engine shut off. I lost power steering, power braking, ability to accelerate or really drive the car at all. All I could do was try to safely navigate an uncontrollable vehicle to the shoulder and hope I wasn't hit in the process. The check engine light came on, in addition to other warning lights (I think they were the tire pressure light, the vehicle traction control light and another indicator that looks like a lightning bolt). The car eventually restarted, but had problems driving and would start to cut out when it idled. We took it back to Dodge, they ran diagnostics but couldn't find any issues. After a lot of pressure, they replaced the main computer chip in the system. This was after replacing another minor part that didn't change the issue. This seemed to work for a few months, but then the problem began happening again. This time the engine was even more sluggish and the whole car would shake when you tried to accelerate. There was no power, even though the engine was running. Then, it would cut out again and the same warning lights came on. We are taking it back to Dodge again today to see what they can do.

12 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Dodge Journey

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Power steering hoses rupturing from cold weather. Second hose in less than 1 month to blow out while vehicle is parked and warming up. Many people online with same complaint, when it gets cold the Journey starts blowing the power steering hoses. Seems to have been a problem from the start, but the problem hasn't been fixed and newer models are still experiencing this problem. The mechanic feels this is due to the material being used is not the appropriate material, it is too hard and brittle. Once the hose blows out you lose the power steering which is dangerous and it starts to get smoke inside the vehicle as the power steering fluid is smoking in the engine.
