I was driving to work and after about 15 minutes of driving at around 45 miles an hour my car stopped accelerating when I pushed on the gas. Shortly after that my wheel locked and the power steering went out. Once I got myself on the side of the road the car would not turn off and I had trouble putting it in park. After a few minutes I was able to turn the car off and they called a tow truck to take me to a mechanic. The tow truck driver was able to restart the car and get the car in neutral to tow it to a mechanic.

Was driving down freeway when steering wheel got tight and all the lights on dash started to flash and then the car shut off and wouldn't start, had to have it towed to dealership.
The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40-45 mph and turning the steering wheel to the left or to the right, the steering wheel was resistant. The contact stated that the failure progressively increased, and the steering wheel completely seized. The vehicle was towed to a certified independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with power steering failure. The mechanic performed unknown repairs on the vehicle; however, the failure recurred while driving approximately 40 mph. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v273000(steering). A case was filed, and the manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to file a safety complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

Hi, my Dodge Journey 2014 has been experiencing steering issues(stiff and hard to turn) when driving at lower speeds. I know that same Dodge Journey model and year has had a lot of recalls for that. Please verify and let me know what's the process to get this steering issue fixed under recall as this is increased risk of a crash.

I went to go start my vehicle to commute home from work and had no power steering. I did some research and saw that my vehicle model from 2007-2016 was recalled for this issue.

Power steering leak, started in cold weather. Found other 2018 models have had a recall for the same issue - but my VIN is not listed. Yes the vehicle can be inspected. No I’ve not had it looked at, I’ve been refilling the power steering fluid regularly and it leaks out. If the leak persists and the power steering goes completely out while operating it could put myself, passengers and others at risk. No warning lamps. I just noticed the steering was difficult.

The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate or shift into gear. During the failure, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Previously, after starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was very difficult to turn, and fluid was present underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the local deale,r who diagnosed that the power steering fluid hose had failed, causing power steering fluid to leak from the vehicle. The power steering fluid hose was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 95,000.
I’ve had to replace the thermostat 4 times in 6 months, pto was just repaired and now it fails to accelerate past 2000 rpm, transmission is clunking when shifting. I just got my car back from the Chrysler dealership.

While I was driving, my car unexpectedly lost power and the engine shut off while I was making a left hand turn. There was no warning. The steering wheel became very hard to maneuver and the car coasted through the turn. I was almost hit by incoming traffic. Once the car came to a complete stop, I was able to put it in park and restart it after attempting twice. The first time, it sputtered. It has not been confirmed by a dealer and it has not been inspected by anyone. There were no warning lights prior to it shutting off. The radio never stopped working on either. It happens when the air is running.
The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front driver's seat independently moved up and down. In addition, the steering wheel independently moved up and down. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The car kept stalling while driving. We had it for 2 weeks and all the sencers went bad and it over heated. Had to leave it on the side of the road and it got towed by highway patrol. Also rewend the battery. Now we are stuck without a ride. I looked up the recalls it said they were repaired but I don't think that's true.
Today while driving on the highway at about 60mph my vehicle lost power causing the car to surge forward. I was unable to steer or brake for several seconds. The gauges completely dropped. It was as if someone had shut the vehicle completely off. The vehicle then restarted on its own. I was nearly rear ended by a semi and am terrified of driving this vehicle anywhere. I did a google search and came across numerous complaints of this happening. No warning lights prior to it happening or afterwards. We have had no issues with this vehicle until this point. It has approximately 90k miles on it.
Hi I owned Journey 2015 since 2 years all of sudden I noticed some fluids red colour under the hood leaking drastically so I parked the vehicle at my driveway I came to know from my neighbours that they have a recall on there Journey 2014 v4.
1. The power steering system keeps leaking for multiple different locations and is intermittent. The leak is never in the same spot. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. 2. There is a potential for safety problems with this if someone does not realize what the noise is coming from the vehicle. There is a whining noise that starts but not until there is no fluid in the reservoir. There is also no change in steering ability. If the power steering should lock up, that could cause a potential deadly situation. 3. The problem has been reproduced at an independent shop. 4. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone else but the independent shop. 5. There are no warning lights that come on and no message pop up for low fluid levels. The vehicle makes a whining noise that progressively gets louder but only when there is no fluid in the reservoir. This started about 6 months ago with the intermittent problem. The 2016 Dodge Journey did have a recall for a similar problem like this.
Same as previous year's. Power steering assist stopped working. Rubber particles in power steering fluid like hose ruptured.

The car will be driving and just completely shut off in traffic power steering locks up. You can’t get the car into park. The windshield wipers go crazy the screen goes black. It starts doing clicking sounds I had to have the firemen come and get me out of the road my car stopped since the second time this is so dangerous, they cannot figure out what’s wrong with it I replaced the battery @ the dealership, I’ve replaced the alternator at aamco. I bought this car in 2016 new off the lot. I’ve had many problems with the electrical. This is just the worst . My radio turns on and off at will . My driver side window will not roll down unless it’s below 30° outside which is super strange, and my air conditioning turns itself on turns itself off, but this was the scariest this is happened before last year and I had aamco look at the transmission. They said that the transmission had a lot of metal in it that they have seen a lot in these Dodges but they cleaned it out for me and it was fine, but this is the same thing that was happening and this is not a transmission thing this is a power thing it just loses power completely. My car only has 100,000 miles on it I’ve taken care of my car I’m the only owner. All those miles are highway miles from visiting family. I never drive my car anywhere further and then in my neighborhood which is a . 5 radius and I work from home so I rarely drive my car so 100,000 miles it isn’t a high number for a car that’s taken care of that isn’t driven often.
Driving down the road and when I try to make a right turn the car does not want to turn, it’s as if there’s no power steering. The fluid is not getting to the right side rack and pinion. The older models had a recall for this same issue and now my year model is having the same exact problem. It was not expected so it was difficult to turn into my own lane of traffic. Took it to a Dodge dealer ship and they recommended replacing it but since it’s not covered under my certified preowned warranty it has to wait. No warnings no lights nothing but shock.

The steering wheel locked on me while it was on drive. I could not turn it left or right. It does this at random which is dangerous. It locked as if the car was off but it wasn't.
Power steering return hose ruptured when I started the vehicle after setting in sub zero temps for about a week. Found a recall for this same problem but my vehicle was not listed. I feel it should have been. Hope you can adjust the recall for this major issue.

Hey, the power steering hose busted for the 2nd time last then a year apart. I believe this is a safety concern because of of no where the car becomes hard to turn. I also seen that there was a recall on the steering hose for 2016 Dodge Journeys. I believe you all should look into 2017 and 2018 as well. I live in minnesota and I only have this problem when it gets extremely cold out.
Car's check engine on randomly turned on, lost engine power and steering became hard and had to come to an emergency stop. There was no message for the check engine and a couple tries later the car was able to turn back on and made it back home. Could've been much more dangerous situation had we been on a busy road with nowhere to pull over.
My car intermittent just shuts down while driving on the road without warning and has done so 4 times now with my family in it as this is the family car. Thank god no one has been hurt or any accidents at this time. When it shuts down you loose control of the vehicle and the steering wheel locks and unable to move safely off the road you have to stop in the middle of traffic and put it in neutral and get out and push it off the road! I have had it sent to two shops to find the problem and they both come up with the crank shaft sensor the first one replaced and the problem still happens! so the 2nd shop a Dodge dealership has diagnosed the same problem but then they say the recall s89 is the problem with my vehicle but because my vehicle was made 6 months before the start of the recall they say I have to fix the problem out of pocket and I refuse to do it! if there is a known problem and a fix for it on a recall then the recall date should be changed to include older models with the same issues. Thank you for any and all assistance in this matter.
My power steering went out after 35k miles driven, it was bought brand new off the showroom floor. I took it to a Dodge dealership and the parts to fix it are under engineer review and back order and they could not fix it, they couldn’t give me a estimated time when they would be able to, I have been without a car to drive to and from work, school and my children’s dr appoints for 3 months now while still making my loan payments. I have called the manufacturer and they are going on week number 2 of the employee there helping me not being able to reach anyone via phone or email to respond on what to do, or even where to start.
Same issue is occurring in my vehicle as a recall that has occurred with years up to 2016. Upon startup in cold weather the power steering fluid leaks from the vehicle.
My traction control light, abs sensor light and brake indicator dash are on. My cruise control does not work and sometimes the car will not start. I'm afraid to drive it. Thinking that it may turn off while driving it. My mechanic says that it is the abs control module. There is a recall for this part, but not for my VIN number. A number of Dodge owners I know are having this same issue.
The etc warning light came on, then the car slowed down then stalled out and would not crank back up. Upon running a diagnostic, the following error codes displayed; p0420, p0340, p0197, p0117, p1d83, p2181(several codes showing up more than once showing permanent, pending). This also happened before but was taken to the dealership to be repaired but the problem is back again but worse. Me and my family were on the highway at the time of this happening and when this happened previously, I begged carvana to take this car back as it not safe and it has happened again.
When making a turn and accelerating the gas the vehicle pops. This vehicle is a 1 time owner has 36,385 miles and is the rear differential and electric clutch assembly on rear differential is out. This vehicle should not have something this major occurring with the low mileage. So far no recalls. However I have seen multiple complaints within google search. This is a safety issue as it feels as though the vehicle is going to delay in turning and could cause an accident.
When driving the car will go into limp mode with no warning. When the car shuts off I have no control of steering wheel and brakes. Thus cam shaft was replaced but the issue now persists. Now the engine is stalling and caused the steering hose to bust and head gasket is blown.
The contact's wife owns a 2013 Dodge Journey. The stated while driving 65 mph, the power steering assist failed without warning. The contact used excessive force to steer the vehicle off to the side of the roadway. The contact got a ride home and trailered the vehicle back to his residence. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 16v273000 (steering). The dealer was notified of the issue and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

While I was driving the car suddenly lost power steering and acceleration, the bolts broke off from the pulley and the serpentine belt came off while driving down a busy street.
Powersteering return line failed in recent cold weather, causing loss of powersteering.
I have a leak in my steering line.
Powering steering went out again for the 4th time. Had to have car towed to repair shop again 1/21/22. Will upload 4th receipt when repair is done.
Power steering lines rupture in cold weather, causing you to loose power steering when driving.
