1 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2005 Dodge Magnum

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Noticed with certain speeds and rpm ranges, transmission (42rle) will have very hard upshift (feels almost like I'm being rear ended) and lack power compared to other times. As discussed in a forum, others have the same issue, but it seems to be a problem with the torque converter clutch and/or the pcm programming that makes the transmission behave in this way. I take care of my vehicle and perform regular maintenance. Even after transmission flushes, problem is still present.

2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2005 Dodge Magnum

Failure Date: 03/19/2011

On March 19, 2011, I was cruising with some friends of mine through belton, TX. As we were driving along, the malfunction light came on in my car. I was wondering what was going on. I pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned it off. I waited a few seconds and then started the car again. I placed the car into "drive" and continued on. As I was driving along, I was lightly pressing the accelerator with my right foot. You can hear the engine revving up but the car wasn't moving. I pulled the car over to the side of the road again and turned it off. I waited a few more seconds and started the car again. When I placed the car in drive and pressed the accelerator the car didn't move at all. I then tried the car in reverse. Again the engine was revving up but the car wasn't moving. I called a tow truck and had it towed to a Dodge dealership. Upon inspection by the mechanics, the torque converter went out and spread metal through the whole transmission. I had this car a little over a month with 56,980 miles on it and now this happens. This is ridiculous!!!!! with the car in the shop I have no car to get back and forth to work. I feel like I have been robbed!!!!!!!.

4 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2005 Dodge Magnum

Failure Date: 04/01/2007

Bought an 05 hemi awd Magnum w/20,000 miles in 07. Warranty expired at 85,000miles. Problems after problems, rack and pinion fixed, egr valve fixed, torque converter replaced once and still having the same issue. Shudders, vibrations, hard engine noises and stalls, pulls to the right, electrical problems with windows, sunroof, seats, gps, instrument cluster, power outlets, hood and hatchback just fall down and bump your head. Passenger seat was missing bolts and wasn't fastened to frame. $200 keyless entry key replacement. No where near 24 mpg more like 14 down a flat 55mph highway. Currently 114,000 miles oil always changed around 3,000 miles and had a 3 tranny flushes. Take it to certified Dodge dealerships and they cant figure out what is wrong with any of those problems and try and tell me that's the way it is. Uhhhhhhhuh. . . . . Lemon?.

6 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2005 Dodge Magnum

Failure Date: 04/17/2005

I bought this car on April 4, 2005 and had the torque converter and valve body replaced on April 17, 2005. Hard shift into gear in the transmission and one day was driving at 50 mph and the transmission came out of gear and then went back into gear. This was very dangerous I had my 5 and 6 year old children in the car. I believe this needs recalled. I have had my car in the dealership 8 times to try to fix the issue with the transmission and the shop manager the general manager and the transmission tech tell me this car is not normal but they don't know where to start. They had a representative from Chrysler come out and look at it and he deemed it normal. I am stuck and am going to have to go to the next level and file under ind. Lemon law to get any resolution. This issue needs to be taken care of before someone gets hurt or even killed.
