1 Engine problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 04/14/2011

I got my oil changed, tires rotated, and windshield wipers replaced on April 13 2011 around 6:30pm. My oil change took approximately 15 min. After the oil change and tire rotation, I paid and went straight home. I was not informed by anyone at valvoline that anything was wrong with my car. I got in my car around 7:40am on April 14th and headed tpowrds my insurance company on asheville highway. As I entered onto business 85, my car started to smoke from under the hood and I could feel heat on my feet near the gas pedal and brake. As I tried to brake and slow the car down, something under the hood caught fire and the brakes failed to stop the car and the car ended up sliding into the back of a pick up truck and the hood and front end of the car completely burst into flames. The brakes on the car were replaced supposed have been replaced by the dealer before I purchased the car in December of 2010. Because of the incident, I sprain my wrist, dislocated my toe, and am without a vehicle.

4 Engine problem of the 2004 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

Idling of the motor was not regular. This 2004 Dodge Neon was purchased used ,and I had nothing but problems out of it. The check engine remained on, and the engine idled terribly. Very dangerous on driving, will cut out and proceeds to cut out most of the time. Also, when pushing on the accelerate it hesitated to the point that one day I may get run over and killed.

5 Engine problem of the 2004 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 01/27/2005

In early August of 2004 I purchased a 2004 Dodge Neon sxt with only 8 miles on it. Since December of 2004 I have had problems with the engine missing. For example the car shakes when sitting or driving and is having trouble at times getting speed when you press down of the accelerator. So I took the car in January 2005 to cornell Dodge in oakland, California at which time it has reached a little over 5,000 miles. The service advisor told me that the car was fine and there were no problems detected by the computer and to return later to get my scheduled oil change. Having continued to have the same problem I took the car back to the cornell Dodge for my scheduled oil change and 16-point inspection in June 2005. They still found nothing wrong with the car. Since I have continually been having the same problem, which was not resolved by cornell Dodgeã‚??s authorized dealer/service department, on August 19th I brought it to the dealer that I purchased it from serramonte Chrysler Jeep Dodge in daly city, California with only about 12, 431 miles on it. They changed the cables and spark plugs, which still did not resolve the problem. I have taken the car back a third time on August 25th 2005 for the same problem to serramonte Chrysler Jeep Dodge in daly city, California with 12,510 miles on it. It is apparent that a new car with only 8 miles when purchased and is only 1 year old should not be having any problems and that this car is a lemon. I have taken the car to the dealership over five times, filed a lemon law complaint and nothing is being resolve. Every time I contact someone they tell me to do some step, which I do and then the person does not follow through on their end. This car is a lemon and this problem needs to be taken care of. Serramonte has provided me with very poor customer service and their agents are not well knowledgeable about their cars!.

6 Engine problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

June 1, 2004. On my way home from work the car started idling real rough and I didn't really think anything of it. I would stop at a stop light and it would idle real rough. Finally the oil light flashed on and the car died. Called for a tow truck and they took it to a dealership where they could not find anything wrong with it. A month later on July 2 the car started idling real rough. I didn't even bother driving it out on the street cause I knew it would break down on me again. I shut it off and started it again about four times and each time it would idle real rough. Got it towed to the dealership again where I was told all they could find it needed was a tune up. I got the tune up done to it and ever since then it has a hard time going past 60 mph.

7 Engine problem of the 1997 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 04/17/2004

1997 Dodge Neon, color lapuis blue, I am the original and only owner. Not only have I had a series of engine repairs between 40,000 to 80,000 miles, the same as I've read on dozen's of other consumer complaints, I now have the peeling lapuis blue paint which started slowly peeling a year ago. The paint now blows off the car as I drive. This car has cost the consumers thousands of dollars, and should have been recalled for all the defects in this car.

8 Engine problem of the 2000 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 01/13/2004

Couple issues, faulty repair done to my car for an antifreeze leak, dealer repaired thermostat and car still leaked. Another dealer told me that source of leak was the head gasket, known issue with these vehicles, currently a class suit out on it.

Now 1997 Neon with lower mileage has same engine gasket problem. Two cars same problem. Requested daimler-Chrysler to fix the problem as this is manufacturing problem daimlerchrysler is refusing to fix it. 11 Engine problem of the 1998 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 04/22/2003

After driving my Neon for about a year, I am finding the same problems as other owners are having. Item number one, the sun roof has just been repaired. The last item is the most important. The head gasket problem has arrived. From what I am learning, Chrysler is and has been receiving a number of complaints on this problem for some time. The cost in the repair is something that Chrysler does not want to bear. Instead will continue to pass it on to it's customers. I own two other Chrysler products that are much newer and they too are troublesome.

Failure Date: 07/01/2002

I have contacted Chrysler on 8/22/2002 and reported the problem they will not pay for the repairs. This is an ongoing problem. It may not be a vehicle safety issue but it could leave a motorist stranded. They have redesigned the headgasket but will not recall this product defect despite the numerous complaints by consumers. Please investigate.

22 Engine problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 02/20/2002

The car shakes when you come to a stop, and continues to until you begin to accelerate once again. I have have the battery go dead twice since I have had it. It has only been serviced at a dealership. The last time I took it they said that it had the wrong spark plugs in it. Why didn't they find this sooner. The car acclerates better now on take off, but it still shakes alot when you come to a stop. It still continues to shake while your still sitting there. This has started to happen about a month after I received the car.

23 Engine problem of the 1998 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 02/15/2002

Head gastket is blown, needs to be replaced. Mechanic said "there's oil and coolant everywhere". This car has only 39,000 miles! I've contacted 7 repair shops, average cost to fix is $700. Three mechanics told me that this problem is so common, they can't believe there hasn't been a recall yet. One mechanic said that he does these at least once a week. After much research on the internet, I have found that this is a very common problem--I alone have found nearly 100 reports of the same thing happening. As for the sunroof. . . It broke and was repaired in August 2000. Now, just over a year later (no more warranty) the same problem has happened again. There have been TSB's issued on both of these problems. A recall is needed immediately.

24 Engine problem of the 1996 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 01/25/2002

25 Engine problem of the 1997 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 01/15/2002

I purchased this car with approximately 26,000 miles on it and have taken meticulous care of it, including all routine maintenance. The cost I've been quoted to replace this head gasket is approximately $977. A part like that should last the lifetime of the engine. . . Not 61,000 miles. Judging from all the postings I've read on the internet, this is an extremely common failure mode for the Neon engine and I feel that the manufacturer should bear some financial responsibility for a part like this that is failing prematurely.

26 Engine problem of the 1998 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 12/21/2001

Repair was made promptly at cost $105. 60. . Asummed no responsibility for problem. . Have had numerous problems with headgaskets according to nhts a the dealer and Chrysler said there was no recall issued in spite of the fact that 3 service orders were issued possibly by Chrysler.
