Front Air Bag Problems of Dodge Neon - part 1

We were traveling down a wet road at 40 mph when the traffic in front of us suddenly stopped and we slid into the car in front of us at about 30 mph. Neither mine nor the drivers airbag deployed when from the damage they should have.

Entire electrical system failure while car was in operation + premature activation of airbag. Driver was forced to claw the airbag out of his way in order to maintain control of the vehicle, and steer it off the highway. There was no known tampering with the electrical system prior to this; car was used, but had only body work done to our knowledge. Heat damage to electrical system was so extensive that car was considered a total loss. Driver suffered some facial and neck injury--possibly others.

2005 Dodge Neon VIN 1b3es26c95d113427. 4 cyl, 2. 0 ltr engine, 12,326 miles, I was driving in anchorage alaska, on 03/06/06, my accelerator got stuck, and I was going faster, before I knew what to do I slammed into an abandoned vehicle, I was going about 30/40 mph, airbags didn't deploy. At impact I hit my head got a concussion. After impact car was still accelerating, put the car in park, realized the accelerators stuck, now smoke was filling the car, and I got my phone and ran thinking it was going to explode, I called 911, they asked if the engine was still revving and I said yes, they then told me to back away from the car, and wait for the fire dept. 3 witnesses saw that the engine was still revving with me out of the car. Anchorage fire/paramedic came. The fire dept disconnected the battery and opened the trunk; smoke was still coming out of the engine/trunk. Anchorage police came and asked what happened, I told him. I got a case number case #, and they towed my car to a body shop. Body shop found that there was a hole in my plenum/ intake manifold, caused by the collision. That's why the car was still revving. I asked how did the accelerator get stuck in the first place, was told he could not determine that. I called daimler Chrysler, to file a claim with them. They sent a special investigator to look at the car. I got a letter from daimler Chrysler, and was told that they are denying my claim. I called to find out why, and was told daimler Chrysler does not care about the claim, a decision was made and that's final, I can seek legal action if I feel like it. I asked why daimler Chrysler does not care about the claim, she told me a decision was made and that was final I can't do anything about it and ended the call. My insurance is going to fix the car, but I have to drive this car knowing that the original problem was never fixed, and that every time I put my wife and my 7 month old in the car.

My wife struck another vehicle in the back @ approximated 45 miles per hour with substantial front end damage to the front end (total loss) none of the air bags deployed. I contacted Dodge with this issue they had a lot of excuses and promised to send out a rep. To investigate the incident but never did.

Contact states: while driving approximately 35 mph the consumer swerved to avoid hitting another car, however his door was scratched, then the vehicle stalled and the air bags deployed. The consumer suffered a minor injury to his wrist due to the deployment of the air bag.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision on a dry road condition at 30 mph. Consumer's vehicle broad side another vehicle, and neither frontal air bag deployed. Passenger sustained knee injuries, and was transported to the local hospital. Also, driver sustained injuries, and was transported to the local hospital by the local police. Dealer and manufacturer were not notified at this time.

Vehicle was involved in an accident where another vehicle turned left in front of my sister (who was driving my car) and she was going 40 mph. My vehicle was hit almost head on. And the driver side front fender. Neither air bag deployed. My sister has multiple head, neck and back injuries.

While driving 25 mph both frontal airbags went off inadvertently. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle. Insurance company had the vehicle towed, and it was totaled.

While driving the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a side rail. Neither frontal air bag deployed. The vehicle was towed to a auto body shop for inspection. The cause has not been determined. Also, 2 months after the consumer purhcased the vehicle, the fuel pump was replaced. There is also an incident that the vehicle doesn't start.

Consumer states while driving 50mph had front end collision and air bag didn't deploy, causing injuries. Ts.

While trveling at 40 miles down hill consumer was blinded by the sun, and hit another driver on front side. None of airbags deployed.

When applying the brakes, the vehicle will start to pulsate at any speed. Also, extended stopping distance. Contacted dealer. The consumer states the following as problems occured: the passenger air bag, throttle blade icing, defective rotors, charging system over charging-no trouble codes; 3 battery replacements(defective per mechanic), many gas tank repairs/replacements(would not take gas without clicking and ticking/filler tank/gas tank), warning brake light and buzzer chimes when brake is applied also with the gas pedal when applied (due to defective rotors and lack of brake fluid, transmission problem-grinding noise/won't go in reverse, brake noise in rear tire/brake booster replace per recall-needs rotors & pads in front, a/c blows warm air-compessor clutch wouldn't engage(found broken wire), problem with the voltage regulator, and noise in the power steering.

In a frontal collision none of the air bags deployed on impact. Consumer sustained injuries.

Front collision at 40 mph. Upon impact neither air bag deployed. The driver suffered minor injuries, vehicle was totalled.

Another driver at 30 to 35 mph, hit consumer mid-front section, and none of the airbags deployed.

After frontal impact, air bag took 2 minutes after the impact to deploy. Liquid in air bag caused drivers shirt to catch on fire, and burned her arms. . Consumer stated he hit a utility pole.

Front collision at 45-50 mph, hit a cement wall, and neither airbags deployed. Consumer suffered head injuries due to hitting head on steering wheel. Damage to vehicle unknown at this time. Driver also has neck, back and waist pains from accident, investigators from Chrysler stated the airbags should not have gone off since the vehicle was not at 30 degrees.

While driving at 35-45 mph consumer flipped vehicle over several, times but none of the air bags deployed. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Was involved in an accident where I drove into the back of a car going 35 mph and neither of the front air bags deployed. I am concerned in that this car was bought for my daughters, and had they been driving it might have been a different story.

Both airbags failed upon vehicle rear-ending a larger vehicle.

Frontal collision at 15-20 mph, and neither airbag deployed. Consumer suffered whiplash. Damage to vehicle was $ 4000. 00.

Airbags didn't deploy when another vehicle veered into consumer's vehicle while traveling on highway. Dealership was aware of problem.

While driving 45 mph broadsided another vehicle, and neither airbag deployed. Driver hit head on rearview mirror, and passenger on windshield. Passenger was suffering numbness and tingling of lower part of body. Damage to vehicle unknown at this time.

While in reverse, barely coasting with no bump in road, both airbags deployed. No injuries.

Vehicle was going 30-35mph and hit a tree head-on. Consumer's face hit against steering wheel, bruised on arm. Front air bags didn't deploy. Drivers door had to pried opened. Dealer stated if the front clips weren't hit air bags wouldn't have gone off. Dealers statement contradicts the owners manual.

Consumer ran into a ditch, hit a sign and airbags didn't deploy. Vehicle cannot be driven. Dealer has to inspect vehicle to find the error. Airbag wasn't on, and fuse wasn't blown.

Front crash at 45 mph, neither airbag deployed.

While making a dead stop was rear ended by another vehicle, and at same time consumer rear ended vehicle in front. Upon impact, none of air bags deployed.
