In August of 1999, due to a health problem (unknown to me), I fell asleep at the wheel of my 1996 Neon. I awoke in time to force the car over to a grassy median between two parts of a four lane highway. The car flew twenty or so feet in the air, making impact with the grass, and continuing without power steering, etc. , for approximately. 300 feet. While in the air, my left arm broke the driver side window. When the car landed dead on to the grass, the air bags burst, but "wilted" down, they did not come straight out at me as normal, but down, after exploding. My mechanic informed me that this was not normal for a car in this kind of accident, and that the car may have been in a prior accident, or the air bags may have been improperly installed. I received chemical burns on the inner parts of the arms, and developed a lung problem due to the inhaled chemicals. Since the airbags exploded improperly, my two young daughters were frightened even more, especially since it sounded like a gun had been shot. My concern is that other air bags may react in the same way, even if there is no front impact. I had notified my mechanics in the ebensburg and cresson, PA areas, where the accident occurred, as well as the ambulance drivers, and any others I could about this situation. I also notified the hosts of car talk. I have not heard of this happening elsewhere, but I did notice that air bags were not mentioned on your website, and felt that it was important to notify the public of this potential problem.
Vehicle was forced off the road unto a grassy surface. Air bags deployed, bursted open and caught on fire, causing second degree burns to driver's arm, from wrist up to shoulder, and minor cuts and bruises.

Consumer is stating that her daughter, lora beth, was involved in a head on collision and killed. She was driving at 35-40 mph. She was wearing a safety belt, and the airbag deployed. She was sitting at least 10 inches from the steering wheel, and was 5 feet 7 inches tall. Parents believe the deploying force of the airbag may have killed her. The Neon?s design dips in the front and if a driver slams on the brake it would dip even more, this might delay the air bag deployment.
Was driving down the hwy @ appro 70 mph, the steering column started to shimmy, and my front passanger blew. I lost control of the vehicle, and landed in the median in approx 3 feet of water. Had to tow the car for 50 miles, back to the dealership. I was told that the "bead broke on the tire, due to improper mounting at the time of manufacturing. " then almost in the same breath, I was told that it was my fault, my tire warranty does not cover "road hazard or wear and tear on the tire". I was then told to turn it into my insurance company, which I did, after losing my job for lack of transportation. I filed a defect complaint with goodyear, and Chrysler. Chrysler told me it was up to goodyear, who in turn denied my claim 3 hours later after I filed. My insurance company totaled out the vehicle, and left me with a $400 balance still to pay on my loan for the car. I understand that in 1997, both manufactures involved were forced to recall approx 40,000+ vehicles due to the same problem. Even though I was not physically hurt, the amount of stress both financialy and mentally has been enormous. Please advise me ASAP of what I can do. ( dot number: tire size: p185/65r14 ).

Driver pulled into a parking space and the vehicle sat low to the ground which caused the front to hit the front wheel, resulting in deployment both of the air bags. Once the air bags deployed, the driver's and passenger's side windows blew out. The driver does not understand way the air bags deployed.
While driving 30 mph, applying the brakes and the braking system malfunctioned, causing the brakes to lock up and vehicle to spin around. Had a rollover in which the defective seatbelt unlatched during the accident, and after rollover was completed the driver's and passenger's airbags deflated improperly.
Vehicle was involved in an head- on collision which involved a tree and neither air bags deployed.
In an accident when the driver's airbag deployed the bag caught on fire due to wiring inside were melting.
While going (25) mph on slick road conditions, when applying the brakes, the vehicle went off the road, went into a ditch, hitting a tree head-on and there was no deployment of the air bags. Insurance adjustor is looking at vehicle.

Mechanism which fired the passenger airbag became hot and melted parts of the dashboard.
Water coming in from dash which causes the water to leak from the floorboard. This defect happens only when it is raining. Dealer has torn out dash, cannot figure out where the water is coming from. Also, airbags' screws are loosening which causes them to make noises.
The drivers air bag didn't deploy when the vehicle was involved in a frontal collision.
Consumer states while driving 30mph had front end collision and neither air bag deployed, causing injuries. Please provide any additional information. Ts.
