2005 Dodge Neon sxt. Car will roll on a driveway if placed on 4th gear. I parked my car on my mom's driveway which is elevated at an angle. I thought I had placed the gear in reverse. Instead, I inadvertently placed it on fourth gear which is right next to reverse. When my kids were getting in the car, the car started to roll backwards. Luckily, nobody was injured. It was possible that someone could have gotten hurt if they were behind the car. The parking brake could not hold the weight of that car. The manufacturer did specify to put the car in reverse when parking the car. However, they should have emphasized on the owner's manual that putting the car in fourth gear will not hold the car in gear if parked on an incline. I hope that the manufacturer will advise other owners about this before someone gets injured or die.
I have a 2005 Dodge Neon srt-4. I purchased the car last may brand new with 2 miles on the odometer. Since about 800 miles I have been having a problem with the 3rd gear during both up shifting and down shifting. During the up shift, at times it will just lock out of gear, and I will have to release the clutch, rev the engine and then press the clutch again to get the gear to engage. During the down shift, about 1 out of 10 times it will either just pop back out of gear, it will seem to only partly engage, then grind and pop out, or just grind and not engage at all. I took it into the dealership where I purchased it, along with another local Dodge dealership to ask about it, and at both places I was told that it is a common problem, but unless I could show them what was happening, while it was happening, there was nothing they could do about it.
Car was hard to shift into any gears - car was taken to dealership and was given a replacement transmission. They blamed it on bad synchros. About 6,000 miles later I had the same problem only worse. The car would not shift into 3rd gear at all. It would only grind. They replaced it again with a new transmission. Now - once again I am having trouble shifting into 3rd gear and sometimes 4th.
My vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission and intermittently will not go into 3rd. Gear. Pulling out in traffic becomes quite an adventure and when the problem occurs, I cannot do anything but try to go back into second or into fourth. Snow conditions makes this very unsafe to try to control vehicle. I use the car for work as a courier. Battling this problem since it was new on 10/18/05. Trans was repaired once. Trans acted the same way within a few thousand miles. I contacted Chrysler and got a case going with customer assistance which was useless. They told me to take the car back to the dealer who did verify the problem, but said there isn't a fix for it!.
Car is nearly impossible to put into first gear. Srtforums. Com reveals that is more common than I had realized.

The vehicle accelerated very slow when put into 2nd gear. The rpm hangs at 3000; while stopped in neutral the idle fluctuated from 3000-1000 rpm and the vehicle idled very rough. The dealership has serviced the vehicle 5 times, in which the sparks plug, air filter, oil filter etc,. Has been replaced. The problem still exist. The vehicle is currently at the dealership being serviced for this same issue.
The transmission in my Dodge Neon rt 2003 has went out twice, they have to replace it w/ new ones. . . I know a few more people where the transmission was broken in these cars. . It's happening constatnly in the Neon rt . . Manual transmission.
This is on behalf of many owners of 2003-2005 Dodge Neon srt-4 vehicles. My vehicle as well as those of several hundred others commonly have problems shifting into 3rd gear. The problems continue to get worse until the transmission ceases to function entirely leaving the driver stranded. There are many owners who have experienced this with less than 10k miles on their car. I have 65k miles and I am on my 2nd transmission and now it is starting to act up as well. Most dealers will not warranty claims on this defect stating that it is driver abuse or due to mods done on the vehicle (in violation of the magnuson-moss warranty act). The dealers are aware of the problem but have chosen not to take any action.
