Upon filling up gasoline at two seperate gas stations on two seperate days, gasoline was observed to spew out even though the gas pump itself had shut off. Possible inlet control valve defect, filler tube defect. Unsure but gas simply spews out, about a half gallon before stopping.

My child and I were in an accident that resulted in the complete loss of our vehicle. The bottom of car was leaking and it according to bystanders caught fire. The complaint that I have is the fact that I received the recall notice for my vehicle back in the month of may and called the local dealership for 3 months to schedule the safety recall repair of the underbody transmission tunnel shield, but every time I called I was told the parts were not available for the 3 months I tried to follow up only to learn that the transmission was leaking during the accident. I was and am really disappointed at the continuous recall notices after the fact of my attempts. Please correct this problem with the dealerships immediately. Thank you.

The tipm failed in my 2008 Dodge Nitro cause me to lose shifting capability. I lost all control of electrical features. The window wipers, fluid, horn were all on and uncontrollable. I turned the car off but it kept running. The door locks locked and unlocked randomly. After reading about the incident the 2007 Dodge Nitro had its tipm recalled and I believe this falls under the same category. Below is the action number. Nhtsa action number : pe07027nhtsa recall campaign number : 07v291000.
Pulling into my driveway when engine suddenly started running at high rate of speed and car started speeding. Managed to miss house and enterer garage with engine going at top speed. At beginning of driveway when car started speeding, I hit the breaks but it seemed to have no effect. When I realized car was out of control I pushed the brakes with both feet with very little effect. Two of the four brakes finally took hold three quarters of the way in the garage and I skidded to a halt hitting several cabinets and shelves. The only clue I have as to why this happened is that the cruse control has been having a problem for the last few months. It sometimes worked and sometimes would not turn on and sometimes I could not shut is off. . . . . .
Upon disarming the alarm/unlocking doors the wipers, sprayers, lights, and horn went off. I unlocked the door with the key and tried to start the car to disable and it wouldnt. When I removed the key from the ignition it kept running as well. It would not shut off. With the key in the engine wouldnt shut off either, nor get out of park. We disabled the battery. . . Nothing. Finally disabled the alternator and it stopped, only to start again when we plugged it alll back in. There have been various occations that the wipers have turned on when unlocking the doors in the past. Along with quite a few times upon starting with a turn of the key you must turn it twice for it to engage. This has been in for service and they couldnt find a problem at the dealer either time I took it in. This car is a hazard and cant imagine if it happed driving as in a previous story I saw. Unfortunately, none of this happens while still under warranty and if it does, they cant find a problem.
On December 06, 2012 was stopped at a red light. Light turned green and I proceeded to accelerate, I then hear a loud thump and veh shut down. I looked under the veh only to find that my drive shaft had exploded and broke in two, falling to the roadway. Looked like a bomb went off under my veh. See that this is s recurring problem with this model. Why is their no recall??? if I were going at st higher rate of speed could of resulted in injury or lost of life. Why is Dodge not taking responsibility??.
Crashed the vehicle into pole. The car is totaled. Passenger airbags went off. Drivers airbag did not go off. With the amount of impact the car took on, the drivers airbag should have deployed. Significant injuries, head hit windshield, four broken ribs, 2 broken toes, one dislocated. Has been hospitalized now for 6 days. And now getting transferred to a rehabilation hospital.
Car gave no indication that there was a problem. As I started to accelerate the car just went dead. I had it towed & the shop told me the engine was blown. The pin broke & went through the piston, put a hole in it & cracked it. The shop said it was a known design flaw.
This car was in a car accident and they fail to report it. Bought it in mercado motors they said car was fine 2 weeks later car never turn on again.
My electronics control module warning light came on I pulled over and then took it straight to the nearest Dodge dealership. They called me tues next day and said that my engine had hydro locked.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle began to shake because a part detached from the engine and the vehicle became inoperable. The contact was unaware as to what the specific part was. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The heater and air conditioner flap does not open and close properly. This results in cold air in the winter at times and no defroster and the windows ice up and fog up. It has been in the shop 4 times and not repaired properly. Some days it will work and some days it will not. This is very dangerous as it might be working when you leave and turn the vehicle off and then it just blow cold air out the defroster.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I own a 2007 model Dodge Nitro, which I bought in March 2008, from al mulla & behbehani motor CO. W. L. L. , the official dealer of Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep in kuwait. The vehicle information number is [xxx] . Till date my vehicle has covered 45,000 kms. On may 12, 2010, I took my vehicle to the dealer for its periodic oil change. When I returned to pick up my vehicle, I found smoke arising from the engine, even though the engine was switched off. Since then I have contacted the dealer several times to inquire about my vehicle and when I could have it back. Their answer has always been, we need more time. ¿ they said they needed to change the whole wiring. The branch manager never takes the telephone. But, after all these local repair work, how can I be sure that a similar incident will not happen again? I would like to know the reason why my vehicle caught fire just after an oil change and while the engine was still off. If this should have happened while I was driving on the highway, it could have resulted in a fatal accident. Incidentally, the dealer provided me the temporary usage of a 2008 model Jeep, in which I discovered to my horror that the hand-brakes were not even functioning. I would appreciate if somebody responsible would look into this matter seriously and respond to my predicament at having bought a Dodge. Looking forward to hearing from you. [xxx].
Last evening my wife drove our 2008 Dodge Nitro to take my daughter to her high school (5 miles from our home). After dropping my daughter off and starting back home the vehicle began smoking under the hood while still moving through the parking lot of the high school. I quickly turned the engine off and got out. Very quickly the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle is a total loss. All service for the vehicle was performed at the dealership and the vehicle was never in any kind of crash nor did it have any major mechanical work performed on it prior to it bursting into flames. I believe the high school may have video of the incident as the parking lot is monitored via cctv cameras.
I have a 2007 Nitro rt and it has been in the shop for uncontrolled acceleration. This was the first time this has occurred. It has been looked at by the dealership, Chrysler and an independent engineer and they cannot diagnose the problem. The incident occurred one morning when trying to park my vehicle, I was almost to a stop and ready to put it in park when the engine revved and the wheels spun like I had stomped the gas but my foot was on the brake. At this point I had both feet on the brake and it would not stop until I hit a full size pickup and pushed it into another vehicle. These two vehicles held my vehicle and I was able to put it in park. My Nitro was still revved up and wheels spinning when I put in park. Chrysler checked the computers (bcm, ecm), braking, tps and probably a few other things but have yet to identify the problem. I searched this website and found at least three other complaints stating the same situation so I know I am not going crazy. The other complaints involved the same or similar vehicles. I have another engineer coming to look at the vehicle (my insurance company hired) so I would appreciate any ideas you might have in order for my Nitro to be fixed because at this point I am making payments on a vehicle that is not safe to drive.
My 07 Dodge Nitro rt has always had an issue while filling up, it doesn't stop like other vehicles and just over flows splashing gas all over the vehicle and floor. My fix for this was just to not fully fill the tank. The other issue I've had for the better part of a year is that I've had a "gas cap" error light that after replacing said gas cap and a trip to pepboys turned out it was a small evap leak caused by a faulty gas tank/innards common in older Nitros, in my experience this also causes a hard start. I think this is obviously a manufacturing issue in the gas tank and would like some guidence on a resolve. Thank you.
Driving at steady rate of 70mph on interstate. Vehicle lost all power and speed dropped to 40mph. Power came back on a few seconds later.
I have owned my Nitro for 3 months and have experienced complete electrical failure on 2 occasions. The first time was about 6 weeks after purchase. I had just left my driveway and was going less than 15 mph. I had to coast to the curb and turn the key to restart it. It happened again yesterday. I had my cruise control set at 75 mph around 9 pm. My headlights, ac and radio were also in use at the time. The car lost all power. . . All lights went off, the engine stopped. Thankfully no one was behind us or my family and I could have been killed. Within 5 seconds it restarted as if nothing had happened. All the lights on the dashboard illuminated as if I had just started it. The only thing that did not come back on was the cruise control. I will advise the dealer first thing Monday morning, but from reading the other owners posts, it doesn't appear they will know how to fix it.
I am the owner of a 2007 Dodge Nitro. Since I have owned the vehicle it has died once, and a second time all the service lights came on, and the vehicle bogged down like it was going to die. The second incident was scary, as I was on a 55 mph highway going up on a small incline with cars behind me and no shoulder to pull off. Neither Dodge nor the dealership had any clue on the problem or how to fix it.
I have had five instances where I have been driving at speeds ranging from 45mph to 70 mph and the car unexpectedly shuts off. All lights, radio and power turn off for a few seconds and then turns back on without any intervention. After the car resets, it takes another second or two before you can push on the gas pedal and accelerate. If you try to accelerate too soon the engine just revvs. I have also experienced the car turning off once and having to restart it while pulling into a parking space. After the third incident, the car was brought to the dealership service department and they stated that they could not replicate the problem. It has happened twice since then and is going back this week to be looked at. From looking at the complaint listing, I have been lucky/blessed not to have experienced an accident and something must be done before catastrophes start to happen. Lets not have another Ford/firestone fiasco.
