Automatic Transmission problems of the 2001 Dodge RAM

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2006

: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on the highway, the vehicle hesitated and lost power without warning. It was maneuvered off the road and towed to the dealer, who determined the transmission needed to be replaced. Also, while driving various speeds, the driver seat moved. The dealer determined a bolt fractured and the track needed to be replaced.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

I got 2 month out of the replacement part because of the mileage now I have to replace it again 550. 00 every 2 month because Dodge doesn't want to admit there is a problem with this transmission (47re).

3 Automatic Transmission problem

I bought the truck in sept. 01 and overdrive went out in Jan 02and now again in March 02 seems everyone is having this problem I am currently putting in a 6spd conversion kit which is costing me $4000. 00.

Dodge says they dont have a problem but everyone you talk to has had a nut come off of 5th gear some more than once.

When travling at any speed vehicle becomes diffcult to change into 3rd or 4th gear. When temperature gets colder situation becomes worse. Contacted dealer, and dealer was willing to replace transmission.

Consumer tried to put car in drive and it felt like it was in neutral. To go in reverse has to put it into neutral. To drive it has to be in 2nd gear. Took to dealer.

8 Automatic Transmission problem

After 500 miles transmission would not shift properly. Took to dealer and there was no transmission.

Down shifts to 2nd gear when backing off of accelerator.

We have tried to get this transmission repaired/replaced since purchase date. We have gone thru the lemon law process, as a result it was labeled a "life threatening malfunction or nonconformity that impedes the consumer's ability to control or operate the vehicle for ordinary use or reasonable intended purposes ore creates a risk of fire or explosion. " [rcw 1931183021(18)] we have spoke to many others with transmission problems who own Dodge Ram trucks. I understand now, thru hindsight, that Dodge trucks with this particular transmission are noted for problems.

11 Automatic Transmission problem

At low speed and with out warning gear will pop out of set gear and vehicle will then stall. Dealer has been notified. However, mechanic was unable to solve the problem.

12 Automatic Transmission problem

When pulling fifth wheel trailer or going up a hill, transmission tried to find a gear or keep shifting back and forth until a gear was found. Also, engine will over rev. Contacted dealer who indicated to shift automatic vehicle like it was a standard. Consumer states the trailer is always pulled with the overdrive turned off and that the shifting problem is in any gear when the rpms drop, below 2000 rpms.

13 Automatic Transmission problem

When taking off and vehicle goes into high gear it starts chugging. When accelerating vehicle will decelerate. Dealer contacted. Please add VIN.

14 Automatic Transmission problem

Without warning and while placing vehicle in reverse, a loud grinding noise came from under the hood.
