Brake Disc Caliper Problems of Dodge RAM

Consumer states that the brake calipers seized while driving resulting in loss of brake function, almost causing a collision.

Vehicle is pulling to right at all times, taken to dealer 3 times. Dealer did alignment, did not remedy the problem. While driving vehicle parted to the right. Consumer applied brakes and attempted to maneuver vehicle to avoid a light pole, however vehicle would not stop nor turn thereby hitting a tree instead. Consumer sustained minor injuries. Dealer found right front caliper frozen and would not release. Right front brake caliper replaced. Center console latch inoperative. New center console lid replaced.

Slides on front brake calipers are poorly designed and allow for corrosion which causes the slides to stay out causing excissive brake wear, a low brake pedal and slow break response.

Vehicle pulls to the right when applying brakes. Also, defective brake calipers. Brakes have already been replaced twice, and need to be replaced again. Factory reps are supposed to be there while vehicle is being repaired.

The brakes pull left or right. Most likely due to weak calipers. The experts I've talked to indicate my one ton 7000 lb truck has the same single piston calipers a little isuzu rodeo or Mitsubishi has. It's horrifying to think this big truck has no more brakes than a 2000 lb little car. The $2000 'damage' is a repair estimate for new oem parts -- which the dealer has replaed. It still pulls. This is a safety issue. Sometimes it pulls hard enough to cause a lane change. Have had near miss of head-on collision.

I am experiencing a brake pull problem. This is an ongoung problem and Dodge technical representatives have acknowledged a problem with the front brake calipers. They have not offered a solution yet. You will receive a number of similar reports over the next few days from folks with the same problem. This is a safety issue that affects the truck and occupants and possibly other folks on the road. Excessive wear of rotors/pads, and calipers. Problem commenced at 6,270 miles, again at 21,000 miles, and reoccurred at 33,000 miles. Dealer informed consumer that they were done with repaires.

Brake pulling problem, however there is no consistancy as to when, starting at about 20000 miles 10/28/98, I have had it back at least 10 times, dealer has replaced calipers/ pads/steering box, and shims between right front rotor and rim. They now have a 5mm shim and say the next step is a 7. 5 per their TSB. I don't like this shim business and the inconsistent braking pattern.

Pulls serverely to left & right. Rotors/calipers/pads all replaced # of times, still pulls.

Whenever the abs brakes were applied after going 40mph, vehicle would pull to left. Took to dealer & had mechanic replace front calipers. Also had the suspension, the frame & the alignment checked out.

When applying brakes, vehicle pulls severely to right, according to dealer, calipers were sticking, replaced calibers/ rotors, problem has reoccurred; also, experiencing lot of play in steering column, can m ove shaft u/down, not a tilted steering wheel.

When applying force to the brake pedal the left front wheel locks up, resulting in vehicle pulling to the right, consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has replaced the front brake calipers.

Left/right front calipers malfunctioned, causing vehicle to pull left or right.

On normal road conditions when going 55-60 mph and stepping on the brakes, the left side drops down and the vehicle goes to the left. The brake pads and calipers have been replaced. Problem is still occurring. The system has abs on the rear.

Upon applying force to the brake pedal the vehicle pulls to the left. Consumer has contacted the dealer the dealer has replaced the brake calipers.

When driving in the rain at 30 mph you have to apply so much brake pedal that the front abs brakes lock up; also, the brake pads have been replaced at 5,500 and 18,000 miles and the calipers have been rebuilt at 18,000 miles.

Front brake pads/calipers failed, causing vehicle to pull to the right, also steering wheel off center.

Intermittently when brakes are applied on wet pavements they lock up, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has replaced front brake pads three times, and brake calipers once. Manfacturer has been notified.

Under normal braking vehicle pulled to the left. When braking there was vibration coming from the front end, causing poor steering control. Consumer has contacted dealer, dealer noted that passenger's side right calipers were sticking, also, rear brake drums were replaced due to the brakes being out of round. Consumer still having problems after visting the dealer on several occasions. An engineer from Chrysler indicated the brakes were too powerful for vehicle's weight, causing the suspension to twist upon braking. Please provide any further details.

Equipped w/rear abs brakes; front disc brakes wear excessively with replacements of three sets of pads. Front rotors and calipers have also been replaced with failure reoccurring repeatedly.

Front brake pads failed, causing vehicle to drift to the left on stops sometimes so severely that vehicle pulls out of lane; also replaced calipers/ rotors/torsion bar.

The front brakes have pulled during braking from day 1. It is an admitted problem (by Chrysler) with the calipers. Mine have been replaced twice to no avail.

There was a recall in reference to the rear axle flange welds which may fatigue and cause the caliper to rotate. Mr the local dealer informed the consumer that there was a backlog on the repair parts and were unable to make the repairs ( recall #02v159000). Scc.

W/all around abs brakes; performance when applied results in excessive pulling in either direction w/cause unknown. Pads, rotors and calipers replaced.
