The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Ram which was purchased brand new in 1999. While the driver attempted to secure the seat belt into the buckle and it failed to lock in place. The dealer stated that the solenoid failed and needed to be replaced at a costs of $600. Although there was a recall for the failure for his make and model vehicle, his VIN was not included in the recall. Nhtsa campaign id number 01v119000, seat belt retractor is directly related to the failure. No repairs had been made. The current and failure mileages were under 70,000. Updated 10/27/09 the seat belt on the drivers side was fully retracted and would not release. The consumer was quoted a price of $634. 00 updated 10/28/jb.

Both front seat belts have failed to retract when exiting the truck. This has cause them to get caught in the door latch when the door was closed. Both belts have been cut and severely damaged.

Consumer took vehicle into dealership, and driver/ passenger seatbelts were working. She and her husband put on seatbelts ,and the seatbelts wouldn't move at all on both sides. Seatbelts were stuck.
Seat belt would tighten whenever seat belt light would come on. Also, would not retract after vehicle was started. Vehicle been in dealer shop on four occasions, and problem could not be resolved.
The defective driver's and passenger's seatbelts will not come out in order to use the seatbelt system. It will not protect the occupant in event of an accident. Been to dealer 3 times. Dealer cannot determine problem. Cause unknown. Consumer states that seatbelts will not extract from lock up in seats at all when vehicle is started, the only way to unlock is to restart the engine.
Retractors on seat belts failed.
When pulling driver's side seat belt from retractor seat belt will not extend to lock. Please provide further information.

Right back passenger's restraint does not retract. Dealer has inspected vehicle and determined that the restraint was normal.

Driver's side seat belt performs erratically, not being able to extend from holster around driver or may tighten while being worn. Please describe details.
