Rearview Mirror Problems of Dodge RAM

Dodge RAM owners have reported 13 problems related to rearview mirror (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Rearview Mirror problem of the 2002 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 09/06/2002

Folding side mirror spring mechanism failed causing the mirror to "flop" against the side of the vehicle. These mirrors are designed to be folded in and out for clearance at drive-up windows, car washes, etc. The passenger side mirror failed while driving in early September and was repaired under warranty by the dealer in mid-September on 10/19/2002. The driver side mirror failed, this time while folding it back out from the "in" position to the "normal" position. Since there is no way to "rig" the failed mirror in place so that the driver can use it, and because of the long wait for a replacement part, this defect presents a serious safety hazard. Dt.

2 Rearview Mirror problem of the 2002 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 07/02/2002

Driver's side mirror came out of socket while manually folding in for car wash 7/02. Replaced by dealer at that time. Passenger side mirror came out of socket during manual fold in for car wash 10/02. Replaced by dealer. I was told there was no known design defect and replacement mirrors have the same design. This could become a safety issue if it occurs while driving. Dt.

4 Rearview Mirror problem of the 2001 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 06/01/2001

Drivers side and passengers side mirrors shake/vibrate at highway speeds making it difficult to see approaching traffic. Eventually this will cause a accident. I returned the vechicle to the dealer and had the drivers side mirrior replaced but this replacement suffered from the same shaking problems at highway speeds. I told the service rep. But he said they all ( Dodge pickups 1500-2500 series) suffer from the same problem and they are waiting for a TSB on the problem. I also have a friend with the same truck and the same problem.

1500 both mirrors have become so lose as to be folded back towards the vehicle when driving over thirty miles per hour. Contacted local dealer. Was told that due to the aftermarket bug shield the air has been redirected in a way that the mirrors were loosened. They suggestion: super glue the mirrors in place???.

12 Rearview Mirror problem of the 1997 Dodge RAM

Failure Date: 01/06/1997

The driver's side rear view mirror and the passenger side rear view mirror vibrate when a speed od 35 mph or higher is reached. It constantly vibrates from that speed on, and vibrates to the point that it is essentially useless - you cannot see in it. I've taken it to the original dealership (palmer Dodge) approximately 4 times, and also to south towne Dodge. Each dealership has replaced the mirror and retightened all nuts, bolts, screws, etc. , but the vibration will not go away. The dealerships have told us that it occurs on all trucks from 1994 to the present, and that they don't have a solution yet. Please help me be able to see behind me when I drive. Thanks for your time.
