Five problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Without any warning, no gauge signs or anything, the truck just shut down. It would not start again and the engine seems to be locked up it will not crank over. I was sitting at a stop light and the check engine light came on, oil gauge dropped, and the truck shut off all within seconds. Not a good situation I was lucky that I was not on an interstate going 60 or 70 miles an hour.
When coming to a stop or turning the engine shuts off. No power steering or brakes when this happens. Also shuts of when slowing down to turns. No check engine light and no diagnostic codes. Dealer has had the vehicle for over 2 weeks now. It has died at least 15 times in the last 4 months. I almost hit a vehicle and curbs.
I was driving on interstate 90 when my truck suddenly shut down for no reason. No check engine lights, just a total loss of power and the steering locked up. I was able to restart it by throwing it into neutral, but it would not restart in park. This has been happening off and on, and no mechanics can seem to figure it out since it doesn't happen all the time. I'm scared to drive it. I have been on Dodgeforum. Com, and there are many Dodge models/years suffering this problem, but no recall has been issued. This is a major safety issue and I don't know what to do to get it fixed (nor do I have the money to keep taking it in again and again). It "codes out" as an electrical/computer issue of unknown origin that no one has yet been able to fix, despite replaced valves, relays, etc.
2006 Dodge Ram 1500 5. 7l hemi engines stalls. When traveling below 15mph truck engines stalls. This is the second time it has happened in a month. Took it to Chrysler dealership said couldn't find anything. Check engine light is on.
Recently I was driving my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 when suddenly while going over a bridge doing 60mph, the truck engine shuts down and the truck dash engine lights come on. Immediately the truck loses its power steering and brakes. It was all I could to hold it to the road and I was headed into oncoming traffic. I barely escaped with my life and now to make matters worse the dealership told me that the engine had seized up and was ruined (not to mention the 36,000 miles warranty had just expired). The cost of a new motor $7,000 not counting labor. I would also like to add that this was the second Dodge ram pick-up that did this same thing. I am filing a law-suit immediately and need help anywhere I can get it. The dealership states it will not cover the repair costs. The truck had 49,000 miles on it. . . Ruined!!!. .
