39 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/04/2002

While driving on the highway at approx 60 mph, we hit a mild bump on the left side. The front end immediately started vibrating horribly, alternating left:right. It was very challenging for my husband to maintain control of the truck, but he managed to pull over to the shoulder. This has happened at least 3 times before, possibly more. I believe the first incident may have occurred late last year, with periodic similar episodes continuing through the early spring. We took the truck in to our local dealer, who replaced the "tie rod" and "bar track" on March 27, 2002, as a result of their analysis of the problem. However, we have had two more occurrences since then. It only happens at highway speeds (>50mph) and begins after taking a bump, which doesn't necessarily have to be a large bump or pothole.

43 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 08/23/2001

The accident occured August 23, 2001. The truck was brought to autoplex 2000 in beaumont, TX. The front passenger side of the truck was hit. The estimated damages came to be around $8,900. 00. When the truck was fixed and my husband was to go and pick it up, we recieved a call that the gate in the service department had hit my driver side door. Well in order for them to fix the door, they had to take off the heated mirror. Since that was done and we got the truck back, we could no longer use the heated mirrors, heater, or the airconditioning. We had to take the fuse out because the switch would stay on. The fuse would not blow out it would just stay on. Well, with the switch staying on the wiring in the dash would catch fire. So we had nothing. The problem with the front end is that the tires on the right, and left side are being cut into. This was not accuring before the accident. We put two sets of new tires on the truck in the process of trying to get the truck back in the shop to be fixed. We were told that we had put to big of a tire on the truck, that, that was the cause for the tires being cut. But we still had our window sticker from when we bought the truck and showed them that with the options package on the truck that size of tire is what came on the truck. Everything that is wrong with the truck now is still things that didn't get checked and fixed from the accident. They are saying it isn't accident related. I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. My husband and I went and bought another truck for that reason. Our only means of transportation and not feeling safe driving it was a problem. They say that they can't find anything wrong with the truck. But apparently there is for the tires to be getting cut. And with it being the same size tire that came on the truck. Thank you, melissa estes.

44 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

45 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 04/14/2001

The truck continuously pulls to the right above fifty (50) miles an hour. After two separate attempts to correct the alignment, the truck was returned to the original place of purchase for repair where I was told by the service advisor ( tracy krumpleman) that because my truck was lowered it won't be guaranteed to hold an alignment. I then stated that the truck was sold to me with the aforementioned suspension modification from the same dealership that he is now working for , and the service advisor ignores this fact and restates that the truck won't hold an alignment because it's been lowered.

48 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 01/16/2000

(1) tire pressure - unable to attain a service ticket (2) replace front tire - faulty side wall - unable to attain a service ticket (3) check alignment, steering wheel off center. Unknown as to what was done - did get a service ticket. For some reason they where looking for tire shimmy at about 30 mph. At a later date I was discussing this shimmy repair with service tech ron jacobs. He informed me that he did that service ticket, and he could not find a shimmy problem while road testing the truck, but did notice that the steering was off. (4) I called ron thomson (owner of thompson Dodge) to talk about what was going on and explained the problem in detail. I took the truck back in for service once again and picked it up later that evening. I spoke to ron jacobs about the repair and I was assured that the truck was thoroughly looked over and that an alignment was performed. While driving the truck home I immediately noticed that the problem was worse than before. I placed a call to your customer center the next day to see if I could take the vehicle to another dealer for service on this same problem, and I was informed that I could seek service at another dealer. (5)I made an appointment at timonium Dodge located at 10300 york rd, cockeysville, MD 21030. I dropped truck off in the morning and picked it up at noon. A front end alignment was performed and upon driving the truck home I did notice slight improvement. As time progressed the steering problem came back. (6) I took it to timonium Dodge again for the same problem and that the tires were starting to show unusual wear. Again, the truck was realigned. It was noted on service ticket that (toe out slightly road test - still pulls slightly - cross rotate front tires - road test. And of course, driving home with the same problem slightly improved at this time.

50 Front Suspension problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 11/28/1998

This vehicle has displayed front end alignment problems, and parts in the front end keep loosening, after purchase noticed left front wheel is shimmed out further away from vehicle than the other wheels. I was told this is a normal procedure to "balance" the vehicle after manufacture. In light of all the front end problems I need to know if this truck is safe for my family to be driving. Has testing been done after the "balancing" proceedureto insure this vehicle complies to handling and safety specifications? do bolts loosening in the front end constitute a safety hazard? I have noticed the vehicle pulls right and sometimes seems to react with a rapid pull right to some road surface defects and has almost pulled the steering wheel from my hands. I have been working with Chrysler and the dealerships since day 1 and have gone through their dispute settlement process and was told my defects to not inflict any detriment to the value, safety or usefulness of the vehicle!.

51 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Failure Date: 11/12/1998

Vehicle rockes back and forth at highway speeds, upon hitting uneven pavement, like bad shocks. Dealer says they can't feel it, my wife won't drive the truck. Dealer contacted Dodge. Dodge says there is not a problem. I have talked to another Dodge owner, that traded his Dodge off at 4500 miles because of the way it handled. Which was similar to the way mine does, but his was a 2500. Dealer said they could fix the problem by putting heavy duty shocks on this vehicle, but was told they couldn't get shocks to fit this new truck. Why have to put after market shocks on a brand new truck? when driving this truck in a tight corner, it feels like it is going to throw you off the road. I am at this time in the proccess of arbitration for other problems, so Dodge will say I am just causing problems but the handling I belive is a safety concern, that Dodge is not addressing.

52 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Dodge Ram 1500

54 Front Suspension problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500

Upon purchasing the vehicle it pulled to the right. I took the vehicle back to the dealer two times for alignment issues and it was out of alingment both times and during the second visit I was told that the vehicle was going to pull do to the way the roads are built. While changing a flat I notices that the upper arm on the vehicle was rusting at the weld. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong with the vehicles a arm even with the evidence of the weld rusting and a visible crack which can be verified by sliding a thread of string through it.

55 Front Suspension problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

Truck pulls/tracks to right, causing excessive wear of right front tire. This is the same problem I had with the 1995 Dodge ram 4x4 I owned. The problem was never fixed. Sold the 95 and bought the 98, the salesman, service manager , and sales manager assured me prior to purchasing the 98 the problems with the front ends pulling to the right were fixed. I currently have the vehicle in the dealers service department for a front end inspection. At first they told me it was an alignment problem without properly inspecting the suspention. Additionally they told me I would have to pay to have the front inspected. If an alignment was needed I would have to pay for that also due to the alignment is covered only to 12000 miles. I have done quite a bit of research myself talking with other consumers and viewing information available on the web concerning the front end problems on these vehicles and there substantial evidence that indicates a large amount of consumers are experiencing the very same problem.
