Dealer did not fix 6 months earlier and said I would be ok because my truck had 32k miles on it. They said it would have failed by now. Now I am stuck. They should have fixed it 6 months ago.

Everybody kept telling me they were out do to the many other failures with this component. Luckily I wasn't going down the road at a higher speed when the wheel stopped turning, could of been a whole lot worse. Truck was down for almost a week because of the backorder on this part.

My truck was included in recall: NHTSA campaign id number : 07v038000 which states: remedy: dealers will replace the front hub and bearing units. . . However, when the dealership performed the recall (daimler Chrysler recall no. G02) they listed no replacement parts related to wheel bearings, it appears they merely added more lube to the bearing housings. Searching Dodge's recall database for my VIN now shows that recall completed. Did NHTSA leave it to the dealers discretion to decide if they wanted to replace the front hub and bearing units vs. Just put a bit more grease in them? or did NHTSA direct them to replace the hubs?.
On 2-23-07, I had occasion to drive my 2004 Dodge, ram pu, 1500 4x4 approximately 400 miles from where I live in western NY. Druing the trip we hear a slight humming noise coming from under the vehicle. Due to heavy snow during the trip we thought it was snow build up under neat. However approx. 50 from returning home and upon entering a service area off the nys thruway, a definite grinding / crrunching noise was heard coming from somewheres under the front end. We continued to our destination in the buffalo, NY area. At this time besides the noises the steering wheel was jerking when traveling at a slow rate. Subsequently the vehicle was left a west herr Dodge, orchard park, NY where it had been purchased. The dealer ship was closed when left and contact was made with them the following day for them to check it and make repairs. On Monday, 2-26-07 we were contacted and advised the vehicle had been repaired and the the problem had been the front left wheel bearing which they replace. Upon picking the truck up I was told that there had not been any previous problems as such with these trucks. About 5 days later I happened to hear on our local tv that the 2006 model Dodge ram pick up's had been recalled due to faulty front wheel bearings whcih was due to insufficient quanitity of grease. I am worried that my trucks bearings have the same problem as the 2006 and that the other side wheel bearing might go and could cause an accident.

Both front wheel bearings on my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 failed at 59,000 miles. I was informed by the dealer and Chrysler that the power train warranty does not cover wheel bearings / hub assemblies. The 2006 version of this vehicle has a national recall on the same assembly / part due to insufficient lubrication. I was also informed by the dealer that the parts are on national backorder due to the number of failures.
-the contact stated that while driving the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 on a cold day at about 8:00 am at 35 mph on an incline he applied the brakes to avoid hitting a cat and lost control of the vehicle which started fishtailing. The vehicle began to skid across to the opposite side of the road. The vehicle flipped over on the high way and landed on the passenger side. The driver got out of the vehicle safely, but the passenger was injured. The tire assembl completely come apart. He squestioned the insurance company about the way the tire came apart. The insurance company stated that the vehicle was destroyed. On 4/9/07 he received a recall l campaign# 07v038000 for suspension: front: wheel bearing. The contact felt that this was the cause of the crash.
Both front wheel bearings failed prematurely. (33,000 miles on odometer) the result of this failure, compromise steering, do to vibration.
Vibration felt through the steering wheel during slow left turns, such as driveways and parking lot. Vehicle has 15,000 miles on it now and this has happened since day one. Dealer has had vehicle twice, first time replaced wheel bearings, second time the said Dodge was aware of the problem but did not have a fix.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving approximately 70 mph, the front driver side wheel began to wobble. The contact decelerated to approximately 20 mph and the wheel separated from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the wheel bearing failed. The contact is beginning to experience the same failure on the same wheel. The current mileage was 42,000 and failure mileage was 33,000. Updated 03/10/08.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact heard a loud vibrating noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. He fears that the tire will detach from the vehicle due to the front wheel bearings. He took the vehicle to the dealer on three occasions, but they were unsuccessful in identifying the cause of the failure. The failure is becoming progressively worse. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 07v038000 (suspension:front:wheel bearing); therefore, they would not perform the remedy. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 50,000.
Both front wheel bearings exhibit the same things identified in the 2006 Dodge ram recall, however, the dealer says the recall does not apply. Should wheel bearings on a truck with 46,000 miles have to be replaced at the consumers expense?.
Wheels bearing going out at 39,000 miles. No off road use, abuse, no wet conditions. Warranty 3/36 expired back in August of 2004. Bought the extended warranty and to my suprise the front wheel bearings were not covered under the plan. These wheel bearings are sealed units. These bearings are not made to be serviced. This is a dealer item and dealer cost is $322 for for both sealed bearings and hub assembly. Total cost of parts and shop labor and turnpike Dodge was going to be $524.

I bought this truck from a used dealer in tupelo, ms on July 5, 2004. On August 27, 2004, my husband and I were driving around 65-70 mph down a 4-lane hwy in ms when I heard a weird noise from the front end. My husband was driving and as he started to slow down to get off on the shoulder, the front passenger side wheel bearing sheared the studs off and my tire went sailing off the truck, slamming the front end down onto the ground. When this happened it dented the fender and shoved the fender into the passenger door preventing it from being able to be opened. Truck was towed from the scene of the accident on a trailer and a new wheel bearing was put in. The part is not available due to the studs being sheared off on a 4-lane hwy. When part was replaced the wheel bearing was checked on the driver's side, showing no reason for replacement. 2 weeks later on my way to work, I felt a sudden vibration in the truck. I pulled off the side of the road and checked the truck, just by a sudden chance of luck I check the tire and the front driver's side tire had already sheared 3 of 5 lug nuts off. Once again the truck was towed in for repair and a new wheelbearing was installed on the driver's side. While this truck has been in our possession, we have not done anything to it to make it shear studs and break bearings like that. The previous owner took very good care of the truck as well, including servicing and replacing parts, and maintenance.

A month after purchasing the vehicle was having ongoing problem with the left front end pulling to the left while driving. Dealership has serviced the vehicle several times over the years to no avail. Currently, the problem became worse. Dealership indicated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive because the left front bearing was bad, which will result in the tire and rim separating and falling off while driving.

I have a rubbing sound, pultsating. Like warped rotor but I think it sounds like a bearing going, but I was told it mat be the wheel hub. I don't abuse the truck and it didn't look like it was before I got it so,I was wondering if it me be the recall on the fractured hub. Does it sound like the symptoms ?.

I have not used this vehicle in any manner that would cause the wheel bearings to fail this early in fact I have owned 10 other vehicles and never had the bearings go on any of them. There was no indication , noise or otherwise that they were failing. We had the brakes redone in December of 2000, with the front rotors having to be replaced because they were so worn. If there were a problem shouldn't they have noticed it when they took the rotors off. Just makes me wonder.
Severe shaking in front will occur when driving at highwy speeds and over a small bump in pavement or hole. Shaking will stop when consumer reduces speed to 30 mph, but evenutally it will reoccur. Consumer states front left wheel would lock down on second occasion wheel bearings out on both sides in the front.
