Truck quit after it was cranked up. Gages pegged out. Taken to dealer and narrowed down to the engine wiring harness from the fire wall to the engine is shorted out causing the pcm to short out as well. Wiring harness is discontinued and truck has been sitting at dealer for over a week. We have tried to locate one personally to no avail. Is this something that you can assist us with. We love our 2500 diesel and would like to have it repaired as opposed to buying another truck.

7 Wiring problem of the 2014 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

A week after I bought the truck the problems began, the steering started rattling every time I turned left and on a few occasions it got extremely hard to steer the truck, they rebuilt the front axle once then finally replaced the whole front axle assembly and wiring. The truck shakes bad at 65+ with the factory firestone tires I replaced them. The a/c vent controls stopped working the motors and heater core had to be replaced. The accelerator/throttle is extremely delayed almost to the point of being dangerous and when you let off the throttle the truck violently bangs into gear. The service def light came on yesterday 12/2/14 with 3/4 full tank. I just reached 8500 miles and these trucks are dangerous I hope Chrysler fixes these nightmare problems.

9 Wiring problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Multiple breaks in the vent portion of the dash cover with missing pieces and the main dash component is completely cracked through on the passenger side. With the ventilation system on, pieces of plastic and deteriorated insulation blows freely in the cab of the truck. With the dash continuing to crack and break apart pieces of plastic have dropped below the dash and could potentially could expose and cause wiring problems with the electrical system. The cracked dash is a danger to the eyes of anyone riding in the vehicle with the ventilation system circulating condition air. I fear that the dash will act as shrapnel in the event of air bag deployment.

10 Wiring problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

The dashboard in this vehicle started to disintegrate at about 70,000 miles, even though it had a dash cover and window sun protection in at all times, since purchase of the vehicle. It was like a sinkhole opening up in dash. It is now causing wiring problems to the point I have it in the shop. Called Dodge to see if there is a recall as the mechanic said he has the same truck, with same issue, and every Dodge 2001 truck he works on has the same issue. Dodge would not comment. I have a Dodge Ram 2500 1992, and the dash looks like new. It is a defect that needs to be recalled. It can cause the headlights to short out while driving.

11 Wiring problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

Numerous headlight switches replaced due to them burning up to include several inches of the existing wiring harness to switch. I cannot believe that this type of safety issue is not being addressed. You dam sure have knowledge of the problem since the aftermarket auto parts o reilys etc. Carry the switch or switch with wiring harness as an option. After reading here all switches go out about the same. . . The headlights start going on and off then look for smoke coming from around dash where switch mounted. You can feel the heat from under when switch is burning up. Need a simple relay to stop this show how much Dodge loves its customers!.

12 Wiring problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 08/02/2012

Driving in traffic at night and lost turn signals and brake lights on trailer almost caused rear end collision. Found problem was with the tipm or fuse box. The trailer wiring from the tipm has no fuse and is some sort of relay and can only be repaired by a dealer. Have found this to be a very common problem with other Dodge truck owners. Many different circumstances can cause this failure due to only a 15 amp limit before failure. Dealers say they can do a reflash for around $100. 00 and if that does not work the tipm must be replaced at a cost of $1000. 00 and this would be the case each and every time there was a 15 amp overload to this circuit. This is a serious safety issue as dealers or not open 24 hours or 7 days a week and also very expensive. This should be a simple fused circuit as it is with almost all vehicles and the repair could be made by simply replacing the blown 25 cent fuse found at all gas stations and convenience stores. I hope no one has been killed or injured over this same type issue.

Email from the office of congressman on behalf of constituent re a safety recall on the 2004 Dodge pickup 2500 diesel. (please direct reply to constituent with copy to congressman). The consumer stated there is a problem with a module where all the wiring for the head lights, turn signals, reverse lights, running lights and hazards were routed through the module before it went into the fuse box. When the module failed, several of the lights ceased to function. The consumer stated the part is on back order.

16 Wiring problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/21/2011

Uncontrolled throttle (unintended increase in engine speed). While driving in cruise control, the truck stated going faster. Hitting the brake did not disengage but turning the cruise off did. A day letter, while driving in first gear, the engine went to 3500 rpm and would not return to idle. This happened twice and the only way to stop it was to push in the clutch and turn the key off. The truck was parked and went to the dealer where the pedal assembly (drive by wire) and the engine control module were replace plus work was done on the wiring harness due to having 12 volts where it shouldn't which presented issues with installing the engine control module. 100 miles later, the check engine light came on and there are codes indicating high voltage to various sensors. This truck has had electrical issues since day one and the problem is most likely related to the wiring. The engine control module has been replaced twice. I'm getting ready to have it dropped off at the dealership and expect the cpu will be replaced again.

17 Wiring problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

When I turn signal to left makes right signal comes on, when you turn right signal on makes left signal comes on. The lamp out light keeps coming on and going off when you turn the left signal on then off again. I checked none of the lamps are out. Has been took to dealer twice and had the wiring harness in the steering column fixed, it quit for a while and then starts the same thing again. The dealer claims using the tilt on the steering wheel is the cause of the problem. I think the problem is in the turn signal arm because it affects the signals and the wipers. I have talked to other Dodge owners who are experiencing the same problems. I feel there should be a recall on it because it could turn into a safety issue.

18 Wiring problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 07/23/2010

This is my second complaint regarding dash board. The dash started cracking with just 30,000 miles on truck, when I put in compliant to NHTSA. Now 109,000 the electrical, air bags, computer harness wiring are exposed with a intermittent stalling and a guessing game from authorized Dodge dealers as to what might be the issues. "undetermined electrical shorts from cracked dash a possibility" "abs service light stays on, also "undetermined by dealer", "can't track code" "don't drive as airbag might deploy because dash has dash debris from cracks" plus hearing "refuse to service unless replace the dashboard" all these quotes when trying to take to get the truck fixed. Main computer harness intermittent "no bus" can't find shorts! stalls out on freeway. The glove box even hangs on only one side. Unsafe if airbags deploy. Splintering of remains chards of faulty dashboard plastic, stall on fast lane of 14 freeway in CA had to coast to right side with no power steering lucky the brakes worked and the traffic was light. Short in wire due to exposed dash board.

19 Wiring problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated that when the left turn signal was activated, the right turn signal activated instead. The failure occurred on three occasions. On one occasion, a crash was avoided due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring in the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available. Updated 5/18/cn.

20 Wiring problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

Upon connecting a trailer with a wiring fault to the 2006 Dodge ram diesel 4x2 , the tipm on the truck cuts off the circuit. Testing indicates a minor fault with the trailer wiring, which allows trailer lights to operate on non-Dodge vehicles. According to the local Dodge dealer the tipm has failed and must be replaced. The Dodge ram does not have a fuse for trailer turn signal circuits nor any other means to allow for the consumer to address wiring faults on trailers, regardless the Dodge ram is designed to allow towing. This presents a considerable safety risk as the consumer has zero means to address faults with the Dodge tpim after normal business hours or in areas without a Dodge dealer. The high cost of the tpim also discourages the average consumer from maintaining proper and safe operation of the vehicle upon a simple trailer fault. A simple inexpensive fuse as on pre-2005 Dodge ram vehicles for trailer circuits will greatly improve safety as the consumer can address issues with the Dodge ram from induced by simple trailer wiring faults. I have contacted the Dodge dealer and Chrysler llc about the issue and neither provides information that there is a fix to the tipm that enables the consumer to address the safety issue induced by replacing the module with a new one. Dodge nor Chrysler llc provided any instructions or documentation on how to advert tipm failures and safety issue resulting from their product not sending power to trailer lights. . Read more...

21 Wiring problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 04/21/2008

Tipm issue when left turn signal is activated no response to wiring harness. Which also would not activate trailer brake light due to no input from left signal. I think this is a problem when other drivers can't see brake lights all due to a bad tipm. Was told the dealer will replace for $700. My opinion with so many 06 Dodge 3500 with same problem this should be recalled. Talked to other owners who have been to dealer and there is a wait for back order due to many others having same problem.

22 Wiring problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/21/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving 30 mph, the warning lights illuminated and the accelerator pedal extended to the floor. The contact was unable to avoid running a red light. The dealer stated that the computer needed to be reset. The failure recurred and the dealer stated that the throttle sensor needed to be replaced at the cost of $450. The failure mileage was 50,100 and current mileage was 50,114. Updated 04/23/08. After the dealer replaced a part, the consumer still experienced the same problem. The dealer then told the consumer there may be a short in the wiring harness under the dash that goes to the cruise control and the dash would need to be taken apart to fix the wiring. Updated.

23 Wiring problem of the 2002 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 11/01/2007

The plastic dashboard and related underpinnings and suport structure for everything from passenger airbag, radio, climate control and vents, headlight, mirror defroster, gauge pod, onboard diagnostic plug, etc. Began disintegrating in large sharp pieces while driving. These pieces cut wiring and fles for anything and everything and are distracting and dangerous in multiple ways worse if in an accident. I had to remove radio, and disable airbags for safety. Replacement parts alone are potentially in the thousands, not including labor and wiring harness repairs.

24 Wiring problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/30/2007

25 Wiring problem of the 2001 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

Dashboard cracking and falling on electrical wire, shorting out things, keeps blowing the abs fuse.

26 Wiring problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/31/2006

Defective weathers tripping around front doors of my 2004. 5 Dodge ram truck. Dodge did not inform me of defective design and will not repair it at their expense (carbon monoxide inhalation danger). Electrical component and wiring harness defects, dealer has not notified me of defects, will not fix them under warranty,(fire hazard). Deceptive practices by Dodge dealer (kari Dodge , kalispell montana). Sold me a 7 year 70,000 mile warranty , specifically stating it was not similar to my previous warranty (insurance policy it turned out to be). I paid 1700 dollars for a warranty that does not cover what I was lead to believe it would.

27 Wiring problem of the 2006 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

This is an on going issue with my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 . When driving at night sometimes when you switch the headlight from low beam to high beam they will completely go out or one side will go out. Also sometimes when you turn on your left blinker your right blinker will come on. The dealer told me that this was from hauling trailers with bad wiring. I don't understand how a trailer that is not connected to my truck can effect the lights. My truck is no longer under warranty and there is no way for me to diagnose this problem. (you must have a Chrysler computer to see what the controller is doing) I thought there were laws to protect consumers from manufacturers of cars that prevented them from making control systems that consumers could not access.

28 Wiring problem of the 1997 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 05/19/2005

Consumer noticed there was smoke coming from the dashboard above the headlight switch while driving. Immediately consumer turned the engine and the headlights off. After a couple of minutes it stopped smoking. After waiting several minutes, the engine started, but the headlights would not come on. Consumer called dealership, and was informed that there was no recall for make and model. Dealership has not checked this vehicle. Consumer checked the NHTSA website and found a recall for the 3500 series but not the 2500 series. Discovered this is not an isolated incident. Vehicle has not been repaired yet due to expense.

29 Wiring problem of the 2000 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 02/15/2005

2000 Dodge 2500 ram van. Air conditioning compressor 12 volt clutch, which draws 4. 5 amps measured is fused at 20 amps , the power to this fuse only goes to one place the clutch. The wire appears to be #24 gauge which may be ok for the 5 amps or so but not for 10amps or more so why the invitation to a wiring harness fire by powering that line with a 20 amp fuse? I noted this condition after I had an airconditioning clutch problem. And found wires in the harness burnt and melted togather in the harness.

31 Wiring problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 2500

Failure Date: 06/06/2004

The consumer states that the wiring harness is stretched to tightly and the wires do not have enough slack. The wiring connections failed. This has been a problem since last year. Owner has been fixing the problem himself. The owner has contacted Dodge, and they said that they were not fixing the problem. There has been no recalls on the truck. There were multiple hot wires and they could cause a short. The owner has never taken his vehicle to the dealership for this problem. The owner usually fixed the problem himself. The owner has a company vehicle . Also, owner thinks that Dodge did not build the part rightly.

32 Wiring problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 2500
