Dodge Ram 3500 owners have reported 25 problems related to brake electric antilock (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
: the contact stated the modulator valve of the antilock brake system keeps running even after the vehicle has the ignition off which takes battery to full discharge. The vehicle was taken to the an independent certified mechanic who stated that only the dealership is able to repair it. Updated 7/18/2006 - in order to keep the battery from totally discharging the consumer had to unplug the wiring to the abs modulator which cause the cruise control, speedometer, trip computer and abs to stop working.

The contact stated that in 2005 Dodge 1 ton truck the brake pedal will go completely to the floor. With the engine running. If it was depressed slightly harder than a normal stop, it will push completely down. Dealer, frontier motors, boonville mo, 660-882-8800, checked vehicle and could found nothing they could identify as a cause. However, they checked other heavy pickups, 1 ton and 3/4 vehicles new and used that were on the lot and found 3 others had the same problem, include one that was brand new. Although the truck seemed to stop normally the brakes have a different feel to them. Frontier motors called Chrysler, and to date has gotten no response or support. Although the truck will stop normally at this time it would not pass the state vehicle safety inspection because brake pedals will not go to the floor. This was a serious problem, and at this time it was being ignored.

Whenever my truck is loaded to mgcw and I have to make a quick stop, if the abs releases to regain wheel spin up, the braking never comes back to anything like it was before the anti skid released. The braking is definitely very dangerous if the abs engages on a quick stop. If the abs engages you had better be looking for someplace to go because you aren't going to stop. I've had this happen twice in 47000 miles and I consider it an urgent safety factor. I have driven trucks with abs since they came out and this one is dangerous.

When parking applied brakes and steering wheel locked up. Also, it speeded up to 20mph when applying the brakes and going around a curve. Contacted dealer.
Dodge fails to admit a problem with rear anti-lock brakes because I didn't find the unused brakes within the warranty. Several other people have had similar experience on other makes with rear abs. My worry is I'm not the only on driving with defective brakes. Dodge sent a service bullitin to dealers but not to inform consumers.

When this problem first happened in 1998, we took it to the Dodge dealer here in cheyenne, wy and they said the calibrater was bad and fixed the right side only. When it started pulling on the left side, it was worse. My wife was driving home on the frontage road when a car stopped short in front of her to make a turn and she had to slam on the brakes hard and it jerked her into the lane of oncoming traffic and there was almost a head on collision. We took it to our master mechanic at another dealership and he told us this is an on going problem with these trucks. He also said you can't only fix on side. The fact that my wife could have been killed because of this problem and that Chrysler refused to do anything about it is very upsetting. The cost to fix this was $500. 00 and that was only because my wife works at the dealership where it was fixed. Our mechanic had come from the Dodge dealership as a master technician and also drives a Dodge. This needs to be addressed with Chrysler and they need to held responsible and fix the problem. We don't need to lose our loved ones because Chrysler does'nt feel this is a problem.
