Dodge Ram 3500 owners have reported 12 problems related to brake hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My driver was traveling at 80 mph in cruise control when he started to notice a vibration from the truck that was shaking the mirrors. He took the vehicle out of cruise control and started to decelerate. At approximately 70 mph a large bang was heard from beneath the vehicle and the front end of the truck was lifted off of the pavement. This caused the vehicle to be turned slightly sideways when it came back down into contact with the pavement while traveling at 70 mph! thankfully my driver was able to correct the vehicle straight but when he pushed on the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor. He was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road and eventually bring it to a stop. Parts from the truck had been strewn down the interstate over approximately 200 yds. There was a vehicle traveling behind my driver at the time of the incident but luckily they were far enough behind that they were able to take evasive actions to avoid any flying debris. Thankfully there were no injuries or after incident accidents that occurred though I would attribute this to the alert and responsive driving of both my driver and the driver of the vehicle behind him. Had there been a vehicle directly behind or to the side of him there could have been a major accident possibly resulting in injuries or death. This vehicle was towed to a Dodge ram dealer where we were informed that the front drive shaft was the part that failed. We were informed by dealer personnel that this drive shaft has a joint that is non-serviceable nor easily inspected and that this was the root cause of the failure. Other parts that were effected were the transfer case (the case was broken in two pieces and the internals were blown out), transmission cracked beyond repair, brake lines had been severed, fuel lines had been severed and a hole was punched through the cab bottom into the passenger area.

I was heading south on I-87 in new york state at 65 mph when a loud explosion sounding like a grenade going off occurred under the floorboards. My passenger and I thought the parts under the truck were going to explode through the floorboards under us. There was a lot of noise of exploding parts. I was barely able to cost to the side of the highway. There was a great deal of oil on the pavement, wires were hanging under the truck, fuel lines and brake lines were ripped, driveshaft damaged. I noticed then that the dashboard 4 wheel drive light had come on, the front hazard lights worked but not the rear. I believe that this was the result of one of two things. . . A factory defect in the transfer case clutch or a computer system glitch that caused the truck to switch into 4 wd at high speed. This was a life threatening situation and I was lucky not to be involved in a serious accident and that the parts did not burst through the bottom of the truck although they dented it.

Pulled into fueling station, stopping at pump, pedal went to floor board. Checked brake reservoir it was empty, added 1 pint of brake fluid. No signs of leak. Found signs of fluid on frame driver side behind fuel tank, pulled tank to find a very rusted brake line and a hole in brake line. Checked other brake lines, all are badly rusted. The gas lines running next to the brake line are not rusted at all. Truck parked in barn all the time, very seldom driven in winter.

Brake line failure due to corrosion. 2000 Ram 3500 4wd. No warning. Towing trailer at the time, used parking break to avoid accident. Part replaced with manufacturer's replacement part #52009177. Note manufacturer has changed material on replacement part to aluminum. Manufacturer has not notified owners of these vehicles that there product was manufactured with inferior material. However, they must have known something is wrong as demonstrated by the change of material in the replacement part. Over 200,000 Dodge rams are at risk of catastrophic break failure. The manufacturer has a responsibility to recall this product and fix it. I could have been killed.
Brake lines rusted. This happened without warning. The caller had to replace the brake lines. He was coming to a stop sign and when hitting the brake pedal it went to the floor. The rear brakes lost all the fluid. He pumped the brake and got vehicle to stop. The caller said that when they were trying to find where a hole was the fluid sprayed out and vehicle caught on fire. Dealer and manufacturer have not been contacted yet.

Consumer stated the brake pads spit out of the driver's side front wheel. Both front wheels were checked, and the brake pads were completely dissolved. They dug deep holes in the rotors. At the same time as this happened the brake line that went to the rear wheels had heavy corrosion and they blew out at that point. Other heavy corrosion on other brake lines came out of the abs control unit. The brakes were not worn out, but they totally dissolved. Vehicle was not used for heavy towing, and it has not been used in the water.
Brake pedal goes to the floor when braking. Brake lines wear on the frame until they rupture, there is no warning, part is the feeder line to the wheel cylinders on the front.

Hydraulic brake line leaking fluid, making it hard for consumer to stop. Dealer notified.
When brake line cracks brakes are inoperable. Dealer replaced the hose once, fixed it twice. Brakes still aren't working. Vehicle can stop by downshifting gears.
