5 Diesel Engine problem of the 2010 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

I have the 6. 7 cummins diesel engine. While stopped and with the air conditioning on and while the truck is performing the regeneration process raw fuel and exhaust fumes enter the cab of the truck forcing me to roll my windows down. This has caused me to get lightheaded if I don't roll my window down in time. This happens about once every two weeks to me(each time the above conditions are met). Putting the air conditioning on recirculate will help. However recirculate will not work for the heater or window defroster which further impairs my ability to drive. I spoke to the dealer and they called Dodge. Dodge said that this is normal. This is not normal and is a serious health and safety issue.

Failure Date: 02/06/2009

Vehicle is 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 pickup truck with 6. 7l diesel engine. I was driving down hill on slippery road with foot off throttle, when applied gentle throttle pressure, the engine jerked violently several times, and causing the rear wheels to brake traction and the vehicle to fishtail. This event is intermittent, most often happens when driving with light throttle, then lifting off throttle to slow down, and when press throttle to accelerate, experience several rapid shudders or jerks from engine before the engine pull smoothly again. Vehicle has had this condition since new. This condition has been reported to two Dodge dealers, are unable to correct it, local dealer said he had same complaint from 6 or 7 other Dodge 6. 7 l diesel owners.

12 Diesel Engine problem of the 1998 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 09/13/2005

My vehicle completely stalled and lost power at 70 mph leaving me with no power steering or power brakes. I was barely able to force the vehicle into the breakdown lane. I brought it to a Dodge dealer where it cost me $3,700. For an ecm computer and injector pump for this diesel engine. Eight months previous I had replaced the lift pump at a cost of over $800. I now understand that the NHTSA has earlier investigated this diesel engine and found no 'safety' problem relating to this failure. I further understand that there was a 'limited' recall performed by cummins, the engine manufacturer, which only included school busses and emergency vehicles as well as for their big customers, ups and fedex. Is there no consideration of the individual owner's safety? by my research there are 350,000 of these vehicles still on the road (122,000 were repaired under warranty in a Dodge 'fix-if-fail' program) with potentially catastrophic safety defects. This is a truly dangerous condition. Fortunately for me, I am an above average size male. I'd seriously doubt if a young driver or small individual would have been able to safely navigate this vehicle to the side of the road. Conversations with the Dodge dealership and with the Dodge consumer hotline resulted in their denial of being aware that there is or has been any problem with this vehicle. A blatant lie on at least the hotline supervisor's part.

14 Diesel Engine problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 07/07/2005

Exhaust smell from fresh air vents, mainly while idling my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4 with cummins engine. I noticed the smell within days of purchase, took it to several dealers, and was told they had never experienced this problem before. End suggestion was a citrus oil additive to make the exhaust smell like citrus. (no joke) fuel injector failure, filling crankcase with diesel, causing rough running and eventual oil pressure loss. Dealer, upon advisment from "tech department" changed the oil, replaced the faulty injector and got me out the door. Now I have experienced engine vibrations that are getting progressivly worse, higher engine rpm's increased fuel consumtion, a cloud of blue smoke upon startup after several hours of downtime, and the dealership thinks it may be a wiring harness. I spoke directly to cummins service dept. And was told that with oil pressure loss, they would have dropped the oil pan and checked the bearings.

19 Diesel Engine problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 07/05/2002

Dodge dealerships received a notice not to use frame filters as they explode and throw fragments of the filter into the engines. Dodge owners were never warned. Fram advertisements say they have the best filters. Evidently, this has happened many times before according to mechanics and owners and the web. Our time warranty ended 01/02, but the mileage isn't even close. We bought the big Dodge thinking it would be the last truck we purchase since we are in our 70's. The cummings diesel engine should run 300,000 miles, so 38,000 is nothing in comparison. We need some kind of help with this problem. Thank you, james & joyce matthew.
