While traveling on interstate 90 in washington state, traveling at about 60 mph I noticed a haze behind the truck through the passenger side door mirror. At the time, there were no indications by instruments or warning lights that anything was amiss with the truck. Wondering if it was coming from the truck I pulled to the shoulder to check. As soon as I stopped I smelled hot oil, so shut off the engine, released the hood latch and checked the engine compartment. Upon lifting the hood of the engine compartment I immediately noticed flames between the engine and fire wall. I retrieved a fire extinguisher from the camper the truck was hauling and attempted to extinguish the fire. Two motorists with fire extinguishers stopped to help and the combined use of three dry chemical fire extinguishers would not put the fire out and the truck and camper completely burned. When I reported this to my insurance company we discovered an error in the VIN number on my insurance policy. Out of curiosity I researched that VIN number and was surprised to see that same style truck had also burned. It's VIN is 3d7mu48c84g269656 and can be seen in the 7th photo that is uploaded to this report. Both were 2004 Dodge diesel tucks with low mileage. It seems too much of a coincidence and I wonder if there is a defect that caused this and how many other of this year, make and model have been destroyed by fire.

60 miles from home after a 2,000 mile camping trip the truck suddenly stopped. Traveling north on highway191 in yellowstone park the dash lights started to flash and the truck died. I was barely able to pull off the narrow road. Emergency flashers didn't work and there was no cellphone service, snow was falling and trucks barely able to get around us, we feared for our lives. I opened up the hood and smelled burning plastic, the tipm was melted in spots. Finally a kind motorist stopped to see if we needed help, 20 miles further down the road he was able to call a towing service which took another several hours to get to us. We were towed to a Dodge dealership in bozeman where it will be another2 weeks before they can get it in.

I was on PA turnpike attemping to merge from a service plaza, when an opening in traffic was available I applied power to merge into line . As I did this my truck did not respond !! I was pulling a 36' fifth wheel trailer at the time and my merge into traffic became very perilious! after what seemed like a very long delay ( and some braking by other motorists ) my vehicle finally started to accelerate. Once the motor responded I had plenty of power to achive speed with traffic . I have told dealer about dead pedal and was told " never heard of it " this has happened to me more that once!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated he started the vehicle without depressing the safety clutch pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000. Lb.
Two issues that are caused by the same problem: 1. When accelerating from a stop there is limited power. If I step on the throttle hard, it seems to not move for a second or two, then takes off. 2. While driving in traffic there is a significant delay in throttle response. If I am on the accelerator trying to blend into traffic, then have to take my foot off the accelerator for some reason, then try to accelerate, it does nothing for several seconds. This is a very unsafe situation for the occupants of my vehicle and anyone else on the road. I want it addressed before causing an accident, or even worse death to someone.

When letting off the gas petal and then pressing again, (like merging or a rolling stop) there is a lag of 1-2 seconds. Very dangerous when pulling out in traffic. Ram says that is normal. This need to be investigated. Thanks.
Etc (electronic throttle control) when this light comes on flashing it goes into limp mode (idle) this is a real safety concern especially in traffic when towing a trailer. I bought the truck new from city auto plaza, canon city, CO. I brought the truck into city auto plaza June 4th 2014 when the etc light was flashing. They replaced the gas pedal the following day the etc light came on. June 11th 2014 they re-crimped the plug on the pedal sensor and the c130 connector under the hood. That lasted about a month and a half. On July 29th 2014 they hardwired around the c130 connector. That lasted about 8 months brought truck in on March 9th 2015, the etc light had gone off by the time I got to city auto plaza but it was the same code in storage p2121. The etc light came on again in may 12th 2015 brought it back and they re-crimped the pedal sensor put some lube and pulled the plugs off the pcm and blew they out and put some lube in the plugs. July 8th 2015 the etc light came back on flashing so I brought it down to city auto plaza again and they hardwired from the gas pedal all the way to the pcm. That lasted 2 days and the etc light came back on going into limp mode. Brought it in again on July 16th the light was off. They test drove it numerous time couldn't get the etc light to come on but it still had the same code in storage p2121. So the swapped out accelerator pedals got the truck back on the July 21st. On July 29th I brought the truck in to troubleshoot the ac (air conditioner) started the truck in the parking lot and the etc light was flashing. Travis the tech that works on my truck has brought in tech support from Chrysler. Travis also google'd it and this is not just my truck. He saw trucks from 2004 to 2009 with these same problems. Why can't Chrysler figure this out? does someone have to get in and accident or die before they figure it out?.
When attempting to cross multiple lane divide highway while synchronizing the timing of the crossing I had to let up and then depress accelerator pedal and got no response from throttle. . . The classic dead pedal response. It can be avoided but someone unfamiliar with the vehicle can geet seriously hurt/killed by not understanding the dead pedal lag and those situations where it occurs. . . This must be fixed.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated that while traveling 40 mph the windshield reservoir emitted windshield washer liquid onto the windshield. The vehicle lost all electrical power and the vehicle emmitted a plastic burning smell. The vehicle electrical system caught on fire. The vehicle was towed. The manufacturer was notified. The private mechanic diagnosed the vehicle as a failed total intergradted power module. The vehicle was repaired several times. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was 64,000.
I was sold the above vehicle by goodrich auto works, llc, chris goodrich, 7255 worth road, bath NY 14810 607-776-7777 and he did not disclose on any paperwork that it was a reconstructed vehicle nor that he had tampered with the odometer. I paid 10,500 and am told its value is $1000 due to this. I contacted hom 5 times via phone and three times via fax requesting he refund me and he just hangs up on me and tells me to "f-off".
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500. While driving 55 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The failure occurred intermittently. The dealer reprogrammed the vehicle, but the failure was not remedied. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500. The contacted stated that he powered down the vehicle and shifted into manual transmission when he noticed that the key was partially hanging from the ignition switch. The engine then independently restarted and erroneously accelerated, crashing into another vehicle. There were no injuries. The contact re-entered the vehicle and removed the key completely from the ignition however, the engine continued to operate. The contact then disconnected the battery and the engine finally powered down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the central computer was replaced. The contact informed the manufacturer of the incident. The failure mileage was 117,000. Updated 1/14/cn the consumer stated one day the vehicle started up by itself while it was parked outside in the driveway. The vehicle hit the consumers other vehicles, and pushed them side by side. The consumer heard the noise and immediately jumped into the truck to try and turn off the ignition, but it was not on. He put the clutch in and took it out of gear, but it just revved up more. The horn was blaring and smoke was boiling out. He turned the vehicle off, by opening the hood and disconnecting the battery. Updated 01/16/14.
There is major lag between the when the throttle is applied to when the engine responds. Many are calling it "dead pedal" because the engine just doesn't respond to throttle input when pressed quickly. If the throttle is pressed slowly, the engine responds as one would expect, but in an emergency situation, where one has to stomp on the peddle, there's no response. For me, I can sometimes do a 3 count. The issue happens from a dead stop or when you are cruising. When cruising, it's easy to replicate because all you have to do it give it a little fuel, as if you're going up a small hill, let off, then stomp on it. . . When this is done, the engine acts as if your foot is still off the peddle for what feels like eternity. I have taken it to the dealer multiple times and each time, I'm told this is how it's suppose to be, so there is no fix . . . But a flash might be available in future to resolve this. The problem is, no one can confirm ram is working on a fix.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The fire department was called and a report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and had an engineer inspect the vehicle. The engineer determined that the fire began in the engine compartment due to the battery. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000. Updated 05/16/2014.
Stepped on accelerator pedal, backed off and stepped back down on pedal. Truck did not respond. Very dangerous when pulling out in front of oncoming cars. This is an ongoing condition, happens all the time if I push on the pedal too hard, the truck takes several seconds to respond.
A young child was able to enter the vehicle and start the ignition without the clutch depressed. The vehicle then moved forward striking another child and resulted in a fatality. The clutch interlock safety switch had not been tampered with and was in its original condition but did not function properly. The vehicle started without the clutch depressed. The switch has been tested and found to be defective.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated that the dashboard deteriorated to the point that the plastic was warped and caved into the electrical wiring and components intermittently, causing the instrument panel to fail sporadically. The headlights were also low and the contact had attempt to use the dimmer to no avail. Also, the service engine and air bag sensor illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the oxygen sensor was defective and that the dashboard could be replaced at the owners expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

While towing a fifthwheel trailer I noticed smoke in the cabin and stopped the truck. Upon opening the hood I found a fire at the firewall on the right side behind the engine. Failing to be able to extinguish the flames I seperated the truck and trailer and pushed the truck away from the trailer and dialed 911. The truck was a total lose and after contacting Dodge I was told that my truck had already had the recall preformed (08v641000) and that they had never had any further problems with these vehicles. Clearly the recall failed to correct the problem at the very least in this case. Chysler sent an inspector (neal matheson) out to investigate and inspect the truck, his report stated that there were no material defects found. I have a copy of that report if you need. Chrysler has refused to honor the warrany on this vehicle as well. I have a video of the incident taken by my son who was with me at the time. The vehicle is still being held at insurance auto auctions 2299 w. Broadway, phoennix arizona. There was a police report taken as well as a statement to the fire department. Police report #04-10-011564 navajo division of public safety department of law enforcement.
When purchased at the dealers driveway, idle dropped extremely low then surged, salesman said that was normal for diesels, drove from that dealership to home with same problems almost at every stop, took to dealership again, they changed fuel filter, no change, then changed fuel pump, no change, then said they think it might be injectors or fuel rails, I had enough asked for the keys they still made me pay $600 plus to remove the vehicle even though they couldn't find the problem, shortly after that I started getting alot of blow by from number 6 cylinder, the pcm stopped functioning normally so I had to replace that, shortly after that I had to replace the turbo charger. Recently I was driving it and it started smoking extremely bad and just quit, I opened the hood and there was oil everywhere, had to have it towed home where it still sits as of this day. I have heard so many bad things about this vehicle between the years of 2006 and 2007, I think it only fair the dealer should stand up for their product.
Power loss occurs at anytime. All the time. Truck slows down to idle speed. Really bad when doing 70 on the interstate. Must shut engine off, press accelerator slowly for 5 times then restart engine. Electronic throttle controller has been replaced 6 times now. They all failed again between 7 and 40 miles. Have not been able to get it repaired.
I received a safety recall h34 for a dash silencer pad and called the dealership to have the issue resolved. They reported that the part is currently unavailable. However, the issue may "may cause an underhood fire without warning" and I am not willing to put my employees or my family in harm's way, thus this report.
1999 Dodge Ram 3500. Front end steering failure death wobble, $550 repair, ac evaporator, $800 repair, presently engine control module $300 for troubleshooting by the dealer, $730 for part and additional dollars for labor. Estimate of $1000+. Asked Dodge for assistance, truck is 6 months out of warranty and only has 68830 miles on it. The engine (cummins diesel) was warranted for 5 years, 100k, and the same with emmissions control 5/100. The ecm could have been replaced by Dodge under either of these warranties.
Consumer exited the vehicle while it was running and went into his place of business. When the consumer returned to the vehicle it rolled back about 300 feet and collided with another vehicle. There were no injuries , and the police did not arrive on the scene. On another occasion the vehicle rolled back, but the consumer was able to catch it before any damage was done. In all, the vehicle rolled back three times. The dealer examined the vehicle and could not find the cause of the problem.
