1 Gasoline Engine problem of the 2005 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 05/06/2005

I was driving my pickup in my driveway, and had to place the vehicle in park and exit the vehicle leaving the motor running. About 10 seconds after exiting the vehicle it stopped running. I have seen on internet forums that this is a relatively common occurance, and it unfortunately happens on the roadways so I feel so far I have been fortunate.

2 Gasoline Engine problem of the 2003 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 08/13/2003

2003 Dodge cummins ho pickup, I have a new truck that has an injector that sticks. It has stuck wide open 4 times, closed two times and partially open many times. When it sticks wide open the knock can be heard through a vehicle window with air & radio running. The safety issue is a black cloud of smoke that is so thick that the sun and road cannot be seen. On interstate 90 I stopped all traffic east & west when it happened. My wife was following me on the way home from kellogg id to ellensburg wa. Cummins agrees with me that I have a faulty injector; however failure does not set any codes in the computer. Consequently Dodge will not fix it. I have had it in the shop 3 times and have a clean bill of health because they cannot replicate the problem and the trucks computer does not record the incidents. I am running with two temperature instruments to read cylinder outlet temperatures when it happens and cylinder six is 10 to 20% higher than the other cylinders. I am told I need to drive it until I have a total failure. I feel that a failure on a crowded freeway could very possibly cause a multicar accident with injuries and fatalities. My Dodge case number is 11579365 and they have a complete case file; however they will do nothing.

3 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1999 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 12/02/2002

I have a 99 Dodge 3500 diesel p/u. The block was cast with a defect in the thickness of the metal of the water jacket on the right side of the block. The blocks with the defect were supposed to be cast in brazil and first found in equipment used in turkey(this was called the turkey crack). The metal is reported to be 6mm thick on these blocks and on good blocks it is 12mm thick. I called Dodge and cummins(the manufacturer) and both said no TSB's were out on the problem. I took my truck to southern plains cummins( a shop in san antonio) and asked them if they knew of the defective "53" block they reported no TSB's but when the mechanic went out to look at my engine without being told any more about it he looked right at the spot where the crack was located. I never said where the crack was and it is under the turbo so he appeared to have an idea of what was going on. He told me to complain to cummins alot and they may help out a little but in the end they did not. I understand the warranty was past by 20k at the time but they(Dodge and cummins) say it should be at least 500k before the block is worn out. In my opnion the warranty was up on normal parts that wear and would be up if a part failure caused the block to be damaged beyond repair, but the bottom line is cummins was producing a block with half the thickness in places it should have had, and if they would have cast it right I would not be in the position I am in right now. I have been adding water to the overflow everytime I stopped for a long time and need a long term fix to the problem ASAP. I have the block in my truck and can no longer trust it to drive distances.

4 Gasoline Engine problem of the 1996 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 08/06/2002

Dealership service dept found that the left front frame was totally broken and the right front side was cracked and almost totally broken in same area. They say that it can possibly be welded but no guarantee would hold. We ask that they contact chrsyler to see if anything could be done about it, because we feel that this is not something that should happen. They said chrsyler refused to do anything about it, and said since it was 6 years old, and had that many miles on it that they wouldn't do anything. Well, we feel that they should be responsible for it because they are the manufacturer that built the truck and the frame is suppose to last, one would think longer than 6 years. We have never had this problem with any other vehicle we have owned or anyone we know has never. We also have a 1987 Chevrolet truck and it has no problems with its frame. After looking at the problem closer, it appears to be where the frame was welded together is where it broke and cracked. If I had not taken it in to get it aligned, who knows what would have happened if it would have totaly broken on the other side when driving down the highway at 70 miles per hour. The service dept said the engine was about to fall out the bottom and I was very lucky. They couldn't explain what would have caused it to break other than saying it was from stress. It has never been in an accident , and has always been maintained as long as I have owned it. I feel that something should be done to help, because I had no plans to purchase a new vehicle and now I have no choice unfortunatly. This will put a very big financial hardship on myself and my family. Please help as soon as possible.
