2 Power Train problem of the 2004 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 02/09/2022

While traveling on interstate 90 in washington state, traveling at about 60 mph I noticed a haze behind the truck through the passenger side door mirror. At the time, there were no indications by instruments or warning lights that anything was amiss with the truck. Wondering if it was coming from the truck I pulled to the shoulder to check. As soon as I stopped I smelled hot oil, so shut off the engine, released the hood latch and checked the engine compartment. Upon lifting the hood of the engine compartment I immediately noticed flames between the engine and fire wall. I retrieved a fire extinguisher from the camper the truck was hauling and attempted to extinguish the fire. Two motorists with fire extinguishers stopped to help and the combined use of three dry chemical fire extinguishers would not put the fire out and the truck and camper completely burned. When I reported this to my insurance company we discovered an error in the VIN number on my insurance policy. Out of curiosity I researched that VIN number and was surprised to see that same style truck had also burned. It's VIN is 3d7mu48c84g269656 and can be seen in the 7th photo that is uploaded to this report. Both were 2004 Dodge diesel tucks with low mileage. It seems too much of a coincidence and I wonder if there is a defect that caused this and how many other of this year, make and model have been destroyed by fire.

My 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 will go out of park and into reverse on its own and I was not told that this is an ongoing problem with this particular truck my truck went on its own one day over 250 feet and drove into my neighbors yard. Failure Date: 04/07/2017

Tipm (totally integrated power module) failed, causing vehicles engine to stall at 75mph on freeway. Condition resulted in a "no-start" scenario. Because of this failed tipm, the onboard diagnostic computer has no power, resulting in an inability to diagnose with obdii scan tools. This situation could have resulted in a possibly fatal accident, as the vehicle was in motion at 75mph on a major freeway with moderate traffic. When the vehicle stalled, all power steering and brakes were lost. These parts are prone to failing, but Chrysler refuses to accept responsibility. An aftermarket replacement is available at the price of approx. $600, but these parts are special order, and take several days to receive.

Failure Date: 12/23/2015

While traveling on the hiway, when I'm at hiway speeds and I hit a bump in the road the entire front end of the truck shakes and bounces uncontrollably until I slow to around 50 mph. I have had ball joints, tie rods, shocks and steering stabilizer replaced, plus new tires and multiple alignments performed. My master mechanic said non of this will remedy the issue. The y type steering setup is the problem, the dealer told me it needs to be updated to the 09 steering but it's not covered under recall. Yet you can no longer even buy the y steering from the dealer the will only sell you the 09 t style. How is this ok? I do not have $265. 00 to pay for just the parts never mind labor, because the p. O. S. Transmission needed replace "$7500. 00" like every other 47re in the world. Also 3 out of my 6 seat belts no longer retract or they get stuck halfway out and it takes 10 minutes to get it to work. I would like to at least have the steering and seat belts addressed ASAP. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, na.

Takata recall - I am unable to get this recall completed. I have been on a waiting list for over 6 months, and am still being told that the dealer is not being provided with an appropriate number of units to complete the recall. I have called Dodge and was told that this is just how it is. I am understandably worried that in the event of an accident this will cause injury to me. I have now received at least 6 recall letters, but still cannot get the recall completed.

I was on PA turnpike attemping to merge from a service plaza, when an opening in traffic was available I applied power to merge into line . As I did this my truck did not respond !! I was pulling a 36' fifth wheel trailer at the time and my merge into traffic became very perilious! after what seemed like a very long delay ( and some braking by other motorists ) my vehicle finally started to accelerate. Once the motor responded I had plenty of power to achive speed with traffic . I have told dealer about dead pedal and was told " never heard of it " this has happened to me more that once!.

23 Power Train problem of the 2014 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 10/17/2014

As I picked up my new 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 6. 4 , I noticed a rattle coming from in or under the dash board . I also noticed my cruise control would not work and traction light stayed on . The rattle only occurs when I am stepping on the gas and going over rough roads , I let off the gas and the rattle stops . I took it to my dealer ( dick poe Dodge , el paso , TX. ) and they found nothing with the rattle , they fixed the other issues . They heard the rattle but said they could not pin point it , they felt it might be the throttle pedal it self , but Dodge would not let them swap it out unless they were 100% sure that was the issue . So here I am still driving with the rattle . I did offer to pay for the part and my adviser said he would not allow that only cause he was not 100% sure it would fix the issue . Understand the service dept did all they could to help me , it was Dodge that tied their hands .

24 Power Train problem of the 2013 Dodge Ram 3500

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

I experienced a severe case of the Dodge "death wobble. " this is the fifth time in two months and this was the worst yet. I was driving on a state highway going about 60. The left from tire hit a small bump - maybe an inch deep. The truck began shaking violently and was not controllable. I slammed on the brakes to stop the shaking but it keep shaking violently as long as it was moving. I finally slid off the road sideways and ended up on the shoulder. Fortunately it was a gentle shoulder. If it had been steep I could easily have been killed. I took the truck to a dealer after the last time it did this and he said nothing can be done. That is not an acceptable answer as this is a death trap.

25 Power Train problem of the 2012 Dodge Ram 3500

While driving truck, throttle light starts flashing, engine light comes on and lightening bolt comes up. Car then loses all power and it dies. No notice. Very scary. Could cause serious or fatality accident since there is no notice and it just goes from 60 - 0. Dealer has had the truck in half a dozen times and still cannot fix the issue. Chrysler has given me case manager, but they cannot figure it out either. They have tried a few different things, but it is not fixing the issue. Now dealer says they dont know what it is and they do not know how to fix it.

The truck had a gooseneck flatbed 30ft trailer attached to the Dodge ram with a john deere tractor loaded on top of the trailer. The vehicle was running and in park on a slight downhill. The trailer was prepared with the ramps down for the tractor to be backed off. Upon backing the tractor off of the trailer, when the rear tractor wheels moved to the down ramp, the shift in weight caused the truck, flatbed trailer and tractor to begin rolling down hill for 300 yards and through a barbed wire fence and finally coming to a stop due to uphill slope in the terrain. The tractor was able to back the rest of the way off of the trailer without incident. Upon reaching the truck and trailer the vehicle was still in park and running. This is a serious defect that needs immediate attention before someone is hurt.
