4 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 02/06/2017

The vehicle was purchased in 2013 " as is" (used) f rom a car lot. There were at least 2 or 3 alignments completed due to repairs on related parts. After each alignment, the steering wheel would turn to an angled position after a few days or a week. When turning the steering wheel to the right or turning it to the right while backing up in reverse, a loud pop can be heard coming from the vehicle. The noise has always seemed to come from the left side of the car. Everything suggested as repairs has been done. Both ball joints were replaced. All front and back struts were replaced. Also there has been a problem with the suspension causing noise and bouncing while driving. All of this has happened on city streets, driving about 35 mph or much less. A mechanice suggested in 2013 that the car might have an electrical problem but almost everything has worked well for the past 4 years with no problems except for the windshield wiper speed which does not work on the regular back and forth and super fast speed. The wiper switch was replaced which didn't help. A Dodge dealership checked it last week and said that the wiper motor works. Only one of many auto repair places tried to charge me for an elec issue. Also in 2013, the first car repair shop I took it to did not detect any recalls and they listed a different VIN # which is:1b3el46r55m519597, on my paperwork. A dealership told me it was not valid when I contacted it for parts. A different VIN # is on the car title which is in my name. Could this car be part of a chop shop scam? I've had a problem trying to find parts that match the color and year especially for an inside door panel. Also I filed police reports because someone has entered the car repeatedly and illegally without forced entry and may have a key. The seller of the car was dishonest when the car was purchased.

6 Electrical System problem of the 1999 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

My girl friend came home and said the car was smoking so I went to look at it and yes smoke was coming from the firewall side of the motor right above the exhaust manifold . I did some research and found a recall on the high pressure hose for the power steering pump so I called the number given and Chrysler set me up with haddad Dodge in bakersfield California we set an appointment for the repairs to be done , I brought the car to them and they kept it for 4 days I called them about the car and they said it was ready I picked it up later that afternoon drove approx 6 miles home it was smoking slightly but no where near as bad as before so I thought nothing of it , maybe just residual from before the repair. The following morning I drove from real rd to fair view Ave and the car was smoking heavily I stopped in front of a friends house opened the hood and there was a fire burning on the back side of the engine luckily there was a garden hose hooked up out side the house , I grabbed that and put the fire out . Could smell fuel heavily parked the car and have not moved it since just a week ago about a month after all this haddad Dodge left me a message saying that my parts had come in and they would like to set an appointment for the work to be done . According to them they had already done the work no body told me that the work was not complete quite the con-trey I was told it was fixed and ready to go the service attendant was so busy on his phone and cell phone he hardly spoke a word to me I had to find the car in there lot so I could go home , why would anybody in there right mind let someone drive a car that could catch fir e.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Stratus

I had smelled a burning smell in my car while I drive it. My husband had tried his best to find where the smell is coming from. We could not find it and now my radio doesn't work, the dome light don't work and the locks don't work. In order to lock my car I have to push the locks down. Can you please help me with what could be the possibility of what's wrong with my car? I haven't been driving it.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

Noticed slight gear slippage travelling 35-45mph. All fluids checked, at proper levels. A week later, engine 'jerked' when coming to complete stop, check eng light illuminated. Progressively worsened. Once engine warmed up, started hearing a 'whirring' noise from lower-middle area of engine. Stopped @ local repair shop, they checked fluids and vac hoses, noise stopped, but noticed coolant in reservoir side 3/4 full & boiling, temp gauge on dash 'normal'. Next day, while cold, I checked coolant level in reservoir (left side) still full, (hadn't flowed back thru system once cool). I added water to 'fill line', checked condition of pressure cap (looked fine), placed & tightened, started engine, let run a few minutes, loosened 'air bleeder' on top of coolant bleeder hsng. Then I slowly shifted thru all gears, w/foot on brake, let air bleed til solid stream of liquid and shut car off. Waited an hour, started up and drove. Ck eng lt= off. Fine for a few days, same issues started up again. Louder 'whirring', like a belt or band slipped. Irratic shifting, trans never failed. Ran both code tests on dashcluster=no dtcs. Jan 2014-drove to Dodge dealership: disposition: replace mopar 41te trans. My lost wages / loss of veh use(Dec/Jan) + burden of a loan to replace the transmission = more than I paid in full to buy the car barely 6 months ago. Unfair to customers: ongoing computer and pcm/transmission failure since 1999. The 'oops' tech spec-correct trans fluid atf+4 how many damaged & failed transmissions? refused to honor powertrain warranty!! and continued placing. Shame on all of the corporate executives & engineers that got rich from robbing the consumers. You were 'successful failures' mopar, Chrysler-Dodge-daimer-iacocca, etc. 90+ tsbs, no recalls. Class actions dismissed! time for the consumers to prevail. Time for a California class action!!.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

Bought 2006 Dodge Stratus in 2007, it had very low miles. Not even a year later its began to have electrical problems and repeatedly had check engine lights on. Also we had the fuse replaced, had windows checked because they weren't working properly but it was too expensive to fix so we left them broken. Check engine light had stopped but recently began to come on again. We had took it to the transmission place they drove the car and said he didn't feel anything wrong with the car and if the light came back on to bring it back to the shop. Transmission still keeps slipping and sometimes we smell a substance like rubber burning and at this moment the lights still on but it most likely will turn off before I make it back to get it checked out.

Sometimes while driving this problems happens and am unable to see what gear car is in, what speed, fuel left, wipers not functioning all which are safety issues. When interior cool, all functions return. Worked with a good mechanic who diagnosed faulty body control module also called a multi function module. $750 dollars later, car ok.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

My 2000 Dodge Stratus se I have had for about 5yrs now excellent running car but has started making its own decisions when it comes to cold air in the summer, mileage, door locks & speed. If you want all gauges & door locks plus cold air in the summer time then you need to make sure your windows are rolled down and you are parked in the shade. If not you will drive around until the sun goes down and the car is cool enough for the gauges and air to kick back on. I have talked to several mechanics about this and no one can come up with a solution for it. I love my car and I want to know what is going on!!!!!!.

18 Electrical System problem of the 2001 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 02/19/2010

While parked and turned off, my '01 Dodge Stratus r/t encountered an engine fire. The entire engine is almost beyond recognition. There was no indication that anything of the kind was wrong; the car had been running as usual. A simple google of "stratus engine fire" turned up an overwhelming occurrence of Stratus owners with this same problem. It appears to have started near the fusebox, which was also the location of the fire in the countless search results. The car had idled too high from a few days after I purchased it. We had the idle air control valve changed and the idle speed adjusted by the shop four or five times, yet nothing would stop the high idle. The only thing that would decrease it was to turn the air conditioner on--which brings me to another problem. The drain holes for the air conditioner are not sufficient for drainage. Thus, running the ac leads to water pooling in the driver's side floorboard. All we could get the shop to do was blow out the drain holes and check for clogs. So, if we wanted the car to idle at a lower speed, we would have to deal with a couple inches of water on the floorboard.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2002 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 08/16/2008

In the past eight months the check engine stays on. I had the computer code read and reset twice. After being reset the light returned within 1-2 days. The third time it came on the dealer said the car had a vacuum leak and replaced a cracked hose. On the second day after getting the cat back the check engine light popped back on and stayed on again. They say that there is no short to the sensor or light on the dash yet the light will not go off. A year ago the main computer died and had to be replaced. The car is a 2002 Dodge Stratus with only 37,000 miles on it. The dealer is stumped, I am out several hundred dollars , and the problem remains. The car has been well maintained.

35 Electrical System problem of the 1999 Dodge Stratus

Failure Date: 11/30/2005

I was in my 1999 Dodge Stratus all of maybe 15 minutes traveling to the store. I turned it off and went in the store for maybe 5 minutes. I started my car again and traveled to a friends house maybe 10 minutes from the store. I was in their home probably 10 minutes tops. When I went to leave I noticed smoke coming out from under my hood and flames shooting out from under the front of my car. We tried unsuccessfully to put the fire out. When the fire department finally arrived my car was totally engulfed in flames. I had liability insurance so I just lost my car because it was totaled. Then in April of 2006 I get a recall (e23) from daimler Chrysler and I am totally amazed. This is probably what happened to my car. I notified daimler Chrysler and the sent someone out to take pictures of my car and then sent me a letter denying my claim. The same complaints which alerted them of the problem with the power steering fluid hose and caused this recall to be made, are those with almost exact circumstances as myself. So what do I do now? the gentleman at customer claims resolution group for daimler Chrysler stressed to me to hire and attorney. So this is what I will be doing within the next few days.
