Instrument Panel Problems of Dodge Stratus

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Stratus. While driving approximately 46 mph, the contact released the steering wheel and the vehicle veered to the right and left. The oil is constantly a quart low in the vehicle. The speedometer displays inaccurate readings and the vehicle was diagnosed with calibration failure. The current mileage was 57,000 and failure mileage was 41,000.

Purchased the car in June 2007 still under warranty thinking I would not have problems since any repairs should be covered under warranty. I have taken the car in 6 times for the same repairs. The first is the brakes, they squeak and rub. They have scrubbed them 3 different time and it still is happening. (they are collecting moisture to cause rust) the second is a bump stop which I understand is common in Dodge/Chrysler products. They refuse to do anything more with it since when they put it on the machine the codes come back with no problems. They had replaced some of the parts back a few months ago. This repair cut down on the amount of bump stops but did not stop them. There is a creaking sound in the front end. They have greased the struts and replaced a carried arm. The noise is still there. The lights dim after 17-30 seconds when the car is running. Everyone but the mechanics seems to see this one happening. Dealer also sold this vehicle without disclosing it had been in a prior accident!.

About 3 months ago my heater stopped working only from low to medium. If it is put on high it works no problem. The lights on the heater/air conditioning knobs have all stopped working as well except for the defrost light. The knob for the temperature control is also very hard to turn. I know I am not the only one. The driver side window has also decided to work when it likes. I know this is not the button because I have had to replace the button on the passenger window. Why is it when the car is covered under a warranty they give you the run around but when the problem is not cover any more they want to charge a lot of $ to fix it?.

Drove the vehicle the night before there were no signs, warnings of anything wrong. Went to drive the vehicle the next afternoon and upon start up vehicle was making a rattling, clicking noise, turned it off immediately. Had car towed, was told oil was sludgy , engine needed to be replace, at a cost of minimum end of $5700. Mechanic stated he had two more vehicles of exact year, make, model and 2. 7l engine on his lot with the same problems. He stated further, he was sorry, but would have to decline his service to repair/replace the engine as he was already fed up with dealing with manufacturer with the other two vehicles. He went on to state that the manufacturer is claiming owner fault, of not maintaining 3000 mile oil changes, even though one of the owners had every receipt proving otherwise. Here I sit without a vehicle now, have no financial means to repair or replace this vehicle as I became disabled in April of 2005 and have a very limited budget. I bought a brand new vehicle so I didn't have to worry about any major expense or problems and it would last me 15-20 yrs, not 5. I also didn't expect to pay over $20,000 for a vehicle that would only last 70,000 miles. This wasn't the only items I had to have fixed, in 2003 I had to have the fan fixed for the ac/heating as it only worked on one speed, thank goodness it was covered by warranty. Which I never did receive any recall letter or any notification of this problem. In 2005 the front wheel bearings went out and had to have them replaced. The front drivers side get water in when it rains, have taken it in to dealer, they have no clue as to what and why this is happening. This is the first brand new vehicle I have ever purchased and was so proud of it, took meticulous care of it and now I feel and look like a complete fool, as the manufacturer is laughing all the way to the bank, plus has a vehicle that runs! their old slogan Dodge tuff, the new is your Dodge doesn't run, that's tough.

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Stratus. Whenever the weather is very hot or a heavy rainfall has taken place, none of the instrument panel gauges or electrical equipment will work in the vehicle. Multi-function stalk to the left of the steering wheel with the headlamp and turn signal swtiches has malfunctioned twice now. This happened while driving down the road. When it malfunctions, the instrument panel will not illuminate, and the tail lamps will not illuminate. The first time the dealership replaced the part. The second time, I took it apart and cleaned it, and it fixed the problem.

Intermittently during hot weather instrument panel would go out. Power accessories, such as door locks/windows and windshield wipers became inoperative. Vehicle has been to the dealer and dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.
