Air Bag Light On Problems of Ford Contour

The contact owns a 1998 Ford Contour. While driving at an unknown speed, the air bag indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. After a week of the air bag illuminating, he drove the vehicle to a local repair shop for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the front driver's side crash impact sensor was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that NHTSA campaign id number 99v243000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module) was directly related to the recall. The manufacturer stated that the vine was not included in the recall; therefore, they were not liable for the repair costs. The current mileage was 102,815 and failure mileage was 102,000.

The consumer is experiencing problems with the accelerator cable. When the consumer takes his foot off the pedal the engine does not return to it's lower idling speed. The consumer is also experiencing electrical problems. The air bag light stays flashing. Owner has contacted the dealer and because of the VIN, this vehicle is not included in any recalls relating to the defects of this vehicle.

Car stalls when parallel parking, especially in reverse, or when parking slopes. Car stalled when starting up from red light in center city philadelphia intersections. Headlamps out of alignment (don't shine down onto road, beams not centered). Air bag light on control panels blinks sporadically, frequently; anxiety that air bag will deploy while driving. Dealer comment on stalling: "probably something stupid" and wasn't able to fix problem, mentioned something about a vacuum tube. Dealer charged $95 to tell me that the memory in the vehicle didn't give any codes for the stalling or air bag problems, then added that the memory is wiped clean every time the car is turned off. Question: if they know that about the car in the first place, why charge the customer for a pointless diagnostic? headlights still out of alignment after having been "adjusted" by dealer in January 2005.

I have normal use on my car and on July 26, 2004 my air bag light and the emergency brake light came on. I read my owner's guide to see what the problem could be and it stated that if theses problems was to occur that I need it to be service by a qualified technician. I brought my vehicle in on July 27, 2004 to get it serviced. I informed Ford that I smelled a wire burning, and that I saw a little puff of smoke on July 26, 2004 that came from under my dash board. I was informed my the Ford dealership that they did 3 diagnostic test on it and they still could not figure out what the problem is with the airbag system. This is a safety problem that could have ended up deadly if I was to get into an accident because of the malfunctions in the car. As far as what is being done is beyond me because they still cannot figure out what the problem is, and what parts are going to be needed for the repairs on my car. I would like to matter to be investigated immediately before someone get hurt, and they don't have their air bag system nor emergency brake light system working.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer because the air bag light illuminated. The vehicle was repaired under recall 99v-234. The air bag light did not reset and the vehicle was returned to the dealer who determined the the air bag diagnostic monitor needed to be replaced. The dealer refused to replace this component per the recall notice and refused to provide a copy of the recall letter to the consumer. Ph.

Airbag light is coming on intermittently. Vehicle has not been inspected by dealership.

Windshield wipers will come on intermittently, and air bag light illuminates while driving, causing vehicle to stall and die. Dealer has been notified. Car was on fire which burned up fuse box.

Airbag light was flashing while driving, consumer had vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer could not find a problem with the airbag. Consumer states airbag light illuminated and stayed on for approximately 5 miles, consumer shut engine off and restarted vehicle to find the airbag light flashing, dealer drove vehicle over 100 miles and airbag light would not illuminate, consumer is concerned because she has to sit close to the steering wheel.

Airbag light is on/ horn, and cruise control are not working. Consuemr stated this was same problem as stated in recall 99 v 243 000. Consumer was scared that airbag may deploy in face.

Airbag light is flashing, not taken to dealer yet.

While driving and without warning air bag light illuminated on dashboard. Minutes later, light went off. Dealer has been notified; however, mechanic can not duplicate the problem. Consumer adds with full tank of gas, fuel light is illuminated.

Intermittent rattle in steering wheel near air bag, dealership investigated and found no case, however, the front crash sensor was replaced as per recall 99v-243, on 9/16/00 air bag light began to flash, no record of code found in system, on 11/11/00 air bag light began to flash intermittently again, apparently, rh crash sensor not mounted, bracket rusty and broken, bolt broken, repairs made. Cj airbag light continues to illuminate, dealer checked vehicle in March 2001 and still found no problems, consumer has another appointment with a dealer in June to see if they can determine problem.

Had started up vehicle & the air bag light came on & stayed. It would continue to flash on/off until vehicle is turned off. Been to dealer & mechanic informed owner there was a short in the electrical wiring. Problem & needs to be resolved.

Engine check light would lficker on and off but now stays on while driving. Have had it checked out no one can find the problem. Air bag light flashes on and off while driving mostly when you apply brake. Heater fan stoped working replaced it wasn't the problem, the pigtail connecting to a regulator box had shorted out and melted. Ford place said the whole pigtail wiring had to be replaced cost about $400. 00 to replace didn't have it done.

The airbag light is on. When applying the brakes there is a squeaking noise coming from the brakes. Also, the front end misalignment, causing vibration.

Airbag light went off 7-3-99. Sensor was defective, replaced by dealer 7-6-99. Sensor defective again 7-11-99, dealer will replace again soon.

When driving at any speed the air bag light keeps coming on, and the the horn doesn't work. Also, the horn is very hard when trying to press it. Dealer repaired the horn, and the problem is back, and they can't determine the problem.

The vehicle had poor gas mileage. The drivers window jammed. The rubber piece around the frame of the right side rear passenger's seat constantly came off. The shoulder harness on driver's side and in the rear seats twisted and jammed. The dashboard cover came loose. The radio operated poorly. The trunk latch often required multiple pulls to open the trunk. The air bag light intermittently came on. While driving there was a whining/grinding noise.

When driving at any speed the air bag light comes on and won't go off. Also, there is some type of code that appears on the dashboard, such as 41,22,55 and the codes keep blinking off and on.

Air bag light came on and flashed on/off. Based on information from mechanic, and a diagnostic was done before replacing sensor. Problem was repaired after taking vehicle to dealership.

Consumer states the air bag light started flashing on and off, and was instructed to bring it in when flashing. (it was a defective component in the replacement module-per consumer).
