Side/window Air Bag Problems of Ford Contour

The vinyl covering on the dashboard is peeling away from the underlying structure. It has, over a period of about 5 months, peeled back far enough that it obstructs the view out of the windshield. The windshield defrost vent trim no longer fits into place. The defroster no longer works properly, as the vinyl now obstructs the air flow. The vinyl is also in such a position as to potentially impede the functon of the passenger-side airbag. Ford has issued a couple of 'campaigns', as they call it, but both have expired. My dash was not warped during the period of the campaign, and so was not replaced at that time. Since the extended warranty does not cover the dash, Ford will not cover the full cost of the replacement (~$1200). The dash on a 3. 5 year car should not warp so badly it looks like a pringles chip. This is a design flaw with potential safety concerns, and should be subject to a recall.

I own a 1999 Ford Contour with a horribly warped dashboard. There was never a recall, only a courtesy call to come to Ford and have it fixed. I brought it into my local dealer, who did not have another dash to replace. They had to order it. When I called back several months later, they told me that time had expired and they sent the dash back to Ford and there was nothing I can do. This warped dash is dangerous, interferes with my field of vision, the defroster won't work properly and now is interfering with the passenger side airbag. I want you to know about this early in case of an accident. This car was bought new in 1999 by me and only has 35k miles on it.

The dealership admited that a technician left a wire loose when they installed a new motor in my car. They were repairing all damage due to the fire. They did not. My son had an accident 4 months later. When the airbags deployed, the passanger side airbag was burnt and melted, therefore never completely deploying.

Reporting on two difference occasions when air bag deployed on passenger's side, causing front windshield to shatter. Would like to know what can or will be done on this matter, dealer and manufacturer were notified. Please feel free to provide any further details.

During vehicle collision neither passenger nor drivers side air bag deployed. Nlm.

Both driver and passenger side airbags deployed for no apparent reason.

While driving at about 35 mph in wet conditions consumer hit a ditch and caused the airbags to deploy. Passenger side airbag was burning around the subframe.

When traveling 31 mph consumer was involved in a head-on collsion in which neither driver's side nor passenger's side air bags deployed upon impact. Consumer has contacted the dealer, vehicle was totaled . Vehicle accelerated on its own, lost control, hit an embankment head-on.

Drivers and passenger side air bag failed (unspecified reason), when driver lost control of vehicle during inclement weather. Nlm.

While driving,the driver's and passenger's side air bags deployed without reason. Cause unknown. Please provide further details.

Vehicle was hit on the passenger's front side and the shoulder belt did not restrain the driver. Also, the deployment of the driver's side air bag knocked driver out of seat and head hit the passenger side window.

Violent deployment of passenger side air bag during collision caused injury to consumer face. Yh.

Passenger's side air bag is visible due to a half in crack with the interior of the vehicle. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has yet to replace parts. Please provide any further details.
