Defogger Problems of Ford Contour - part 2

There was 6 recalls that I was contacted on, 2 of which I had in the shop twice because not fixed properly also my abs system went out on my car besides the heater blower and heat sensors which have been replaced twice.

Heat/ac problem the same, my last bill was $500. It's supposed to be fixed this time.

The rear power window on the passenger side does not work. The moulding on the outside of the rear windows has been loose ever since the I bought the car. The carpeting in the rear of the car has been loose/ hasn't fit ever since I bought the car. The blower no longer blows through the panel vents--only through the defroster/defogger vents.

Fumes enter passenger compartment through heater vents after engine is warm. These fumes cause respiratory problems for vehicle occupants. May be similar to complaints registered under odi id 539092, 828169.

Ford need to replace this car with a safe one! come on 6 electrical failures? when will the fire start from the failures?. . Dateline nbc next!.

The dashboard vents that should clear fog and frost from the side windows does not function when the heat selector is set to hot. Thus, it is next to impossible to clear fog and frost from the side windows in cool weather. The side mirrors are then useless. This appears to be a design flaw that affects all Ford Contours, and probably Mercury mystiques.

Air conditioner emits bad smell when running. Also when heater is running. Took vehicle to dealer 8 times. Dealer could not fix problem. Dealer stated Contours have that problem.

Consumer complained of unpleasant odor coming from vent whenever a/c or heater are turned on. Vehicle been in/out dealer shop, and condition still unresolved.

1)driver's power seat rocks from front to rear, replacing seat track made problem worse. 2) vents located to clear side window of fog do not operate when heat selector knob is set to hot.

Transmission has a defect, there is a slip when you applying gears. Also, brake pedal goes all the way down to the floor, and grabs a little bit. Dealership is aware of problem. Brakes have failed, on one occasion consumer almost hit a child, brake pedal slips from under foot. Emergency brake is only effective 50 percent of the time. Transmission intermittently changes gears roughly, at times jarring occupants in the vehicle. Possible electrical problem: light of the clock has burned out twice, consumer states there are shorts in the dashboard, causing the heater or a/c to only have one speed working, dome lights work intermittently, light under dash works intermittently, warning bell does not chime all the times it should, consumer states a sensor causes heater to act as the ac and vice versa. Hinges not made properly, causing door movement while opening/closing, does not stop when it should. Seat blet retarction does not have enough elast, causing it not to retract properly, has gotten caught in the door jam. Alarm system has failed. Wheel cover cracked when a tire was being changed and another one fell off, consumer was not aware of the time or place it fell off.

Smelling a burnt odor coming from the heater vents.

When the car is driven and you turn the heating system on your getting a musty smell. It happens on heating more than cooling.

Within 6 months of the purchase of my vehicle, the car started having problems with vibrations, shaking, and severe noise while driving. The engine idled rough and got more severe when the heating or cooling system was used. All tires have been replaced, a major brake job with rotors turned was completed, and the struts were replaced. Regardless of this work, the shaking in the car has gotten progressively worse. I have taken my car to the dealership five times for the same problems. They have either said that it was "normal Contour" or that it was the tires. Finally, they indicate that there is a problem but they cannot determine what it is. My car makes a thumping noise and a squealing noise when I make slow right turns. On several occasions my foot has been on the brake pedal and my car surged forward. At one point I thought that the person behind me had hit me because the car jerked so hard and so unexpectedly. Again, I am told that this is normal. This is the worst car that I have ever owned.

Oil fumes entering into vehicle.

Consumer took vehicle to Ford dealers 5 times, the problem still exists. The car fogs up under normal fall, winter, spring driving conditions. The defroster air conditioner will clear the front windshield, but not side windows and the back window cleared by using the rear window defroster,this creates a safety hazard and reducing driver visibility.

Power steering becomes disables when driven through puddles of water. Safety should be a recall by Ford motor corp.

Ac/heater/defroster/blower part that was defective has been recalled, but Ford refuses to cover under this recall the a/c compressor, which failed prematurely. Chris early, at joe machens Ford, columbia, mo, informed me that the compressor has nothing at all to do with the ac/heater/defroster/blower, and so, will not cover the work under this recall. I find it hard to believe that the a/c compressor has nothing to do with the ac/heater/defroster/blower and its problem (blowing air quite hard, but with none coming out the vents, and not heating or cooling the car/defrosting the window). Though I have had the car in 9 or 10 times to have the ac/heater/defroster/blower problem fixed, I still have trouble with it from time to time. Surely this kind of strain caused the a/c compressor to work harder, and be subject to undue stress and therefore immature wear and tear and ultimately failure. (even the service technicians expressed surprise at the earliness of the compressor failure). Please investigate this problem, since I have had trouble getting anywhere with Ford in the past -- I still haven't gotten any sort of reply from Ford as to my inquiries to their customer service department about the problem, which I registered in writing to them in August 1998.
