1 Fuel Pump problem of the 1998 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

The engine wiring harness which connects to the vehicle's main power supply box has wiring for which the insulation comes off exposing live, bare wires. This leads to shorts in the electrical system which affects drivability (engine runs erratically and affects the electric fuel pumps operation) and could lead to a vehicle fire if the wiring suffers catastrophic failure. It goes without saying that if the car's fuel supply or engine control systems fail, the driver may lose control and become involved in a crash or collision. Ford does not sale replacement parts nor are parts available on the secondary market. The part number for the wiring harness on my car is f8rz14289ca. Ford should be required to replace these defective harnesses.

3 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 07/29/2006

While driving the vehicle on the highway, it lost power and would not respond to the gas pedal. I had to steer it to the shoulder and after a while it responded long enough for me to take it to a service station where it was diagnosed to have a defective fuel pump and flywheel.

4 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 04/06/2006

My car sporadic stalled in traffic because the new fuel pump would shut off. The cause was faulty wiring that shorted out and in turn destroyed the cars computer. No parts are available so dealer was using parts from different make/model parts for repairs. I was told that this is a recurring problem.

5 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 09/22/2005

1999 Ford Contour se sport dashboard peeling. My dashboard started to peel away at approx 60,000 miles. I now have 80,000 miles on my car. I did not receive notice of a recall on this matter, which was apparently a secret. I have owned 3 Fords and will never buy another due to the lax customer service and failure to take responsibility for product failure. I have also had all the head gaskets replaced (I am 60 and hardly hot rodding), rear struts and something related to a loud humming sound under the hood that was essential for the car to remain in working order and problems with the key sticking in the ignition and also a fuel pump.

6 Fuel Pump problem of the 2000 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 07/24/2005

The car hesitates, stalls, loses power, surges, etc. While accelerating onto the freeway, going up hills, turning onto a highway etc. We've been lucky that it has only happened when we had a shoulder to coast on to. We could have easily been rear-ended by other vehichles in traffic. This has happened several times : at first it only happened when the gas tank was less than 1/4 full, then at 1/2 tank, now 3/4 full. We try to keep the tank full. Nhtsa has a recall id # 04v421000 for the 1999 and later Mercury cougar that has the identical fuel delivery module as the 2000 Ford Contour (v-6). This recall should be expanded to include Ford Contour and Mercury mystique v-6 models at the very least. Nhtsa has also recalled the 2000 Ford focus with similar fdm design defects and performance problems.

7 Fuel Pump problem of the 2000 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 03/10/2005

The dashboard, which was once recalled, the recall has since expired. Is delaminating off the foam , preventing proper defrosting of windshield and hindering view out of front window. The fuel pump which was recalled on other Ford models for exactly the same problem, fails, preventing acceleration onto highways. The water pump, which is plastic, disintergrates in the motor.

9 Fuel Pump problem of the 2000 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 05/13/2004

Dash is warping, received recall but at the time it was not warping so I didnt feel it needed replacing. Also fuel pump had to pe replaced at 70,000 mile. Dealer charge $800. Which is unbelieveable for a vehicle in the price range. Dealer sold me an aftermarket extended warranty when I purchased this vehicle in 2001. They didnt inform me it was not a Ford warranty. When I tried to file a claim I was informed they were in bankrupcy and would not pay. This will be the last Ford I will own.

12 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 11/15/2003

Since I took the ownership of my 99 Ford Contour svt, it has been nothing but trouble. I want to keep this short, so I will breifly tell you of the problems I have encountered. In less than 2 years this has all happened. Fog lights have gone out, twice. Cv axis boot had to be replaced due to flawed manufacturing. Abs system failure, rear window defroster went out. Its on its 3rd fuel pump. Very tough starts when its cold, stock alarm malufuction, right rear tail light went out, left front speaker went out, drivers door handle malufuction, the dash came up from the windshield back about 6". Honestly there is more, I am trying to pull all this from memory. To conclude I would like to say that I will never own a Ford again. Ever.

13 Fuel Pump problem of the 2000 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 09/15/2003

Bought a 2000 Ford Contour two years ago and have had continual fuel system problems. This vehicle will run fine for awhile. . . Sometimes days or weeks. . . . Then just suddenly without any warning stall in the middle of interstate or highway like it is not getting fuel. Two fuel pumps have been replaced in the last two years to no avail and they go out in a little over a year. The mechanics I have taken this cart to are puzzled and don't no what the problem is. . . I pay top have it fixed. . . They think they have it fixed and it will run ok for a week or two then stall in the middle of the road again. The car has been parked a year and a half of the two years I have been paying on it. We have had near accidents because of this problem on several occasions. Currently we take the car no more than a mile from the house when it is running.

14 Fuel Pump problem of the 1998 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 07/27/2003

After going through two fuel pumps, first pump went at 32000 miles and the second around 62000, I have had extreme problems with the fuel pump. Now, my car doesn't start on its own very often. I have to wiggle the fuel pump under the backseat in order to start the car. I have, on occasion, had the engine die while traveling down the freeway or in the middle of an intersection. Once the fuel pump was wiggled, the car started again and I was on my way. I took my car to a well trusted mechanic and he told me that Ford doesn't have any parts to fix the very loose pipe that runs into the fuel pump. I am very concerned about this issue and feel that my car may stall and cause myself and others great danger. Please help.

18 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 03/01/2003

Nar 06/19/2003. The consumer had his vehicle towed to vista Ford approx 3 times in one month for a broken fuel pump that needed to be replaced. 20 Fuel Pump problem of the 1999 Ford Contour

Failure Date: 06/27/2002

My dash began to buckle to the point where the defrost vent would not stay in place. The dash face on the left side of the steering wheel is falling off. The floor on both sides in the front seat gets soaked every time I drive through puddles or rain. The dome lights would not go off. The door buzzer has tendencies to come on while you are driving even though all 4 doors are shut tight. The fuel pump went out and when the mechanic was going to replace it, he brought to my attention that all wires connecting to the pump had burned the wiring insulation. The fuel pump happens to be located in the fuel tank. There were bare wires in the fuel tank! (I do still have the fuel pump)the trunk latch located inside the drivers side front seat has not worked since 1 month after purchasing the vehicle. All of these things have happened since I purchased the vehicle in 2001 and I cannot seem to get Ford to own up to any of them. The recall on the dash apparently is not important enough for them to assist me. I cannot get through to someone who will help me solve these problems at any of the dealers in my area. I am currently still paying for a vehicle I am afraid to drive and no longer care to be associated with. Needless to say the car is sitting in the driveway and I will probably never drive it again.

This vehicle stalled twice. Once while I was going 65 mph on the interstate with my infant daughter in the backseat with coal trucks bearing down on me. When I retrieved it from the dealership that afternoon, they told me they had cleaned sediment out of the tank. Now a year later, out of warranty, I have had to replace the fuel pump for the third time, the gas tank because it is rusting away from the inside and the fuel filter because of the debris. My aftermarket warranty did not cover this repair ($825. 52), I contacted Ford, and they refused to take responsibility. This was a fire and death waiting to happen. Please contact me regarding this claim. .
